Overview

The ˜66 models are beautifully finished and have a deep glass-like shine. The vintage sunburst on mahogany brings out the grain to create a warm look to match its tone. These mahogany top guitars have a focused sound with strong mids, great for recording and live work.

Alvarez's Artist Series is now "The Award Winning Artist Series" - winning competitions and receiving rave reviews in the States, Europe and around the world. It's a truly designed line of guitars that stands tall and sounds sweet in the solid top guitar market.

Hand-selected solid tops; forward shifted scalloped bracing, awesome tone and player experience¦.

The term "solid top" refers to the soundboard of an acoustic guitar being made of solid wood, rather than being laminated. However, just because the top is solid, it does not necessarily mean the sound automatically benefits from this feature. The tone of the instrument only improves significantly when the whole guitar is built correctly to really release the energy a solid soundboard can generate. Artist Series is built to do exactly this.

Each model is designed to get the best out if its components, and for them to work together to produce a tone and player experience, rarely found in affordable instruments. These components include the FST2M bracing system, bi-level bridge, real bone nut and great quality tonewoods.

FSTM is a forward-shifted X brace design. Both the X braces and asymmetric tone bars are scalloped. Moving the system forward allows for a larger soundboard, which is optimized with a solid maple bridge plate for both strength and energy.

The sound is warm, open and powerful, and both the treble and bass registers are clearly present and balanced in relation to each other. These guitars feel right and are exciting to play and responsive. Dig in and they shout right back at you, treat them gently and they whisper and respond instantly to the lightest strum or pick.

The solid ˜A' grade Sitka spruce and cedar tops are hand-selected from quarter-sawn wood. This ensures consistent quality, and its no secret better guitars are made from better wood. These tops not only look great but they are stiff and strong and finely grained.

Comments about Alvarez AF66 OM/Folk Acoustic Guitar:

I was set on the AF60 but the GC has this on the deal of the day, so I got the AF 66 instead. This has the mahogany top, sounds great. Action is a little high but not a big deal. My son took my old Alverez, which still sounds great. At this price, you can take this guitar anywhere and not be worried about a scratch or ding, and still and still sound great. The starburst finish is very nice too.

Comments about Alvarez AF66 OM/Folk Acoustic Guitar:

Ordered this as a Daily Deal from GC website and picked it up in store today. As the guy who helped me with my order said "it looks better in real than it does in the picture on the website". This is my first acoustic guitar and as is stated on reviews of mahogany guitars online, it does not resonate as high a treble sound as a spruce top does but don't get me wrong, the sound is nice. If you have other people living with you that don't necessarily enjoy hearing you practice one floor down then this guitar should work good for you. It has a great mid range sound to me in my opinion. Tuned it and started playing it within minutes. Like any new guitar and they are all like this, I am going to have to get it set up because the action is too high but I had expected that given what i had been told by more experience guitar players. Trust me, I looked at several new acoustics at stores and all of them had high action and needed adjustment. I am well pleased with my purchase; it is a beautiful guitar with a beautiful sound. I gave 4 stars because it does need to be set up. 5 stars = PERFECT and had it been set up then 5 stars would have been easy to give.
