Overview

The Alvarez AD660ESB Dreadnought Acoustic Electric Guitar is an elegant, cosmetically rich guitar with a refined and warm tone. The solid African mahogany top generates great punch in the md range and focused trebles and bass; making this guitar equally suitable for recording, live work or more intimate settings while writing at home.

Although hardwood tops tend to accentuate the mids, the 660s carry Alvarez's signature open and full sound with lots of response across the whole tonal spectrum. The finish on the 660 is carefully crafted to produce and mirror a deep shine. The mahogany takes on the sunburst with style to show off its grain and warmth. Other appointments come in the way of real rosewood and paua abalone rosette inlays, real bone nut and saddle, dot-free fingerboard with 12th fret pearl inlay and all-round quality tone woods.

The 660s have the unmistakable Alvarez bi-level bridge. This system significantly increases the break angle from the saddle to the top. This increased down pressure raises string tension, giving the guitar a very responsive feel and adding quality to its volume and sustain. Pair this with a forward-shifted, hand-finished scalloped bracing system, and you have a guitar that merits your consideration and will provide a lot of enjoyment.

The AD660ESB come fitted with the Alvarez SYS250 3-band EQ with backlit LCD chromatic tuner.

My favorite acoustic guitar

Comments about Alvarez AD660ESB Dreadnought Acoustic Electric Guitar:

I bought my Alvarez at GC over a year ago, and my wife encouraged me to write a review. Though I only started playing guitars a couple of years ago, here goes my first guitar review: I love this guitar! I had never heard of Alvarez before seeing one at GC while shopping. As soon as I saw it and strummed it, I knew this was the one I had been searching for. The deepness of the tone is what you'd expect from a dreadnought; what delighted me was the warmth and responsiveness. When I plugged it in, the electrified sound was virtually identical to the acoustic sound. I was amazed and solid. They are not kidding about the finish; it stays gorgeous. Maintenance is nothing more than an occasional wipe down with a dry cloth. It stays in tune well, and the built-in tuner certainly helps. Putting on a set of D'Addario phosphor bronze strings really makes the Alvarez ring. I have two other acoustic/electric dreadnoughts: a Martin and a Yamaha. The Alvarez AD66 surpasses them. Just a note: while the model #s appear to be the same, mine is full shouldered and not cutaway as GC now pictures. While having cutaway access beyond the 14th fret might be helpful for some, it never really seems to be an issue with an A/E. If I need to be way up the neck, I can always use my Fender Strat for that.

Comments about Alvarez AD660ESB Dreadnought Acoustic Electric Guitar:

This AD660ESB is a true work of art,Alvarez really built a fine guitar in this Artist series, from the solid top on down to the beautiful sunburst finish. And the tone plugged or unplugged is soo sweet, even played it next to the Taylors and Martins high end guitars and the Alvarez had the better tone. Get one you won't be disappointed.
