Overview

2015 finds Alvarez Guitars celebration a half century of refined and ever-evolving craftsmanship. To mark this milestone achievement Alvarez has created the ARDA1965, part of their 1965 Series, a gorgeous line of guitars that exemplify everything they’ve learned over the years in terms of sound, aesthetics, and affordability.

“We want every guitarist and Alvarez enthusiast to be able to join us in this 50 year celebration,” says Chris Meikle, Head of Development at Alvarez and Senior Vice President of St. Louis Music. “Very often commemorative guitars are so expensive that they’re out of reach to the everyday player. Our goal with the 1965s was to create a line with beautiful appointments and tone, but make them as accessible as possible.”

The ARDA1965 Slope Shoulder Dreadnought is made with premium North American, solid A+ Sitka spruce top, a beautiful Acacia back and sides, and  handcrafted Paua abalone purfling. Other appointments include mother-of-pearl and abalone inlays, premium die-cast tuners, and a bi-level rosewood bridge.

Comments about Alvarez 50th Anniversary ARDA1965 Dreadnought Slope Shoulder Acoustic Guitar:

I purchased this guitar having knowledge referencing scalloped-forward shifted X bracing, etc. I absolutely love slotted headstocks. Unfortunately, I am disabled and have severe arthritis, and I had sold my 1 of 40 Koa Martin Guitar and all of my accessories; and I have never owned a laminated back & sides guitar beforehand. This top is constructed of Solid American Sitka A+ Grade wood. I have never picked up an Alvarez in the past 45 years, and said that it didn't sound good. Therefore, I did not believe that I was taking a chance by ordering a guitar which I did not first play. I was right; and it stays in tune + it came with D'Addario #16 Light coated Phosphor Bronze Strings which carry a high cost per pack. Alvarez did not skimp in manufacturing this guitar. It has a shorter neck than most Dreadnought's & its bridge is 2" lower than normal, but it has a Bone Nut & Saddle too. It's perfect for me to play being slope shouldered and smaller than the usual sizing. However, its sound, etc. is outstanding & this is why I am writing this review so as not to deter anyone from purchasing this guitar from Musician's Friend. It has a Lifetime Manufacturer's Warranty, but MF adds their own 2 year warranty for you for free. We do not have much money these days & my extensive knowledge of guitars & having handled Alvarez's + MF's pricing dropped down from this Limited Edition 50th {2015} Anniversary Model made for me to again want to have a guitar & I'm pleased as punch to have done so. The all around quality of this particular guitar, and I'm certain of their other three 50th Models, is definitely worth considering. They also have a regular sized Dreadnought Model, and an easier to comfortably fingerpick & play OM Model. Alvarez has remained true to their wishing to make for wonderful guitars at reasonable prices. You won't be sorry by purchasing one.

Comments about Alvarez 50th Anniversary ARDA1965 Dreadnought Slope Shoulder Acoustic Guitar:

If this guitar said Gibson or Martin on the headstock you would pay over $3000 for it. This is one of the most beautiful looking, playing and sounding acoustic guitars I have ever played. I own 4 J-45's right now and would put this guitar up against any single one of them.

This guitar has such a beautiful tone. Crystal clear brilliant note articulation. Waverly style tuners work flawlessly and I love the slotted style headstock. The sunburst finish is one of the most beautiful I have seen, ever. It is very close to the Martin 000-17SM finish, but richer. I have always loved the neck profile of Alvarez guitars. They remind me of older D Martin necks.

I no longer play out or plugged in so no electronics does not bother me one bit.

Seriously if you are looking into a J-45 or some other Southern Style acoustic or slope shoulder acoustic do not let this one pass you by based on price. This guitar is seriously competition to guitars that cost $2 - $3K more. Astonishing really.

Comments about Alvarez 50th Anniversary ARDA1965 Dreadnought Slope Shoulder Acoustic Guitar:

This is a wonderful guitar and a great value - solid wood, bone nut & saddle, slotted headstock with vintage tuners, and a beautiful sunburst finish and tasteful paua/abalone inlays. Sounds great fingerstyle or with a pick.

I've been playing Alvarez for forty years so I thought it would be nice to pick up something from their anniversary collection. I chose the ARDA because I didn't have anything like it. I'm very pleased with my purchase. A beautiful looking and sounding guitar. Alvarez has really done a nice job with the Artist Series.

Comments about Alvarez 50th Anniversary ARDA1965 Dreadnought Slope Shoulder Acoustic Guitar:

First, the woods on this 12-fret Alvarez dreadnought are incredible. Mine came with a 2-piece acacia back and sides with curly waves of woodgrain. Yes, it's laminate, but it has a deep 3-D look and sounds great. The solid top is more like AA+ grade, with the bear claw patterns of old sitka spruce. The satin finish mohogany neck was dark stained and plays real nice. The gloss body finish and Shadowburst gloss top had no flaws. Second, the sound is excellent - it's loud, even when fingerpicking. Mine was set up with medium action from the factory (and still in tune!) and when you dig in, it gives back all those percussive effects and extra overtones that make for a great acoustic sound - no buzz. Third, the action is great for fingerpicking with the generous wide nut and a little beef on the neck profile for better sustain. It's probably not the best neck for a child, with the 25.5" scale and 1.75" nut, but for me it's so-much-nicer than the little guitar necks. Fourth, the top-rim paua abalone trim may be a bit over-the-top for the traditional acoustic guitar crowd. But it gives it a a bit of a retro cowboy stage look, along with the 12-fret and open tuners. Finally - the price is fantastic, get it while you can!

Comments about Alvarez 50th Anniversary ARDA1965 Dreadnought Slope Shoulder Acoustic Guitar:

This guitar is a hidden gem. I own a Martin 00015 (LOVE) and had just purchased a Taylor 214 CE Koa when I saw this particular guitar. My first guitar, which I had given away was an Alvarez and I have always had a desire to replace it somehow. I came across this and saw that although it was a lower priced Alvarez, it had a Yairi bracing system as a bonus of it being their 50th anniversary edition. I took a chance and ordered it. I was blown away at the sound. I brought it to three excellent guitarists that I know who have multiple quality guitars and they couldn't believe how amazing it sound. Two of them would have bought mine. Decided to add a K K pick up and I am one happy camper. BTW, I returned the Taylor and am extremely happy with my Martin and Alvarez. Oh did I mention how beautiful it is too? :)
