Overview

In a market that has a glut of small format mixing consoles, the Alto ZEPHYR ZMX862 is an excellent option. Its combination of low price, good build quality and smartly designed feature set has made it a real leader in a very competitive category.

The ZEPHYR ZMX862 is a 6-channel, 2-bus mixer with two phantom power-equipped microphone inputs, a three-band EQ and two AUX sends on each of the two mono channels and on the two stereo channels, and two-track inputs for audio playback.

You can plug dynamic, condenser, and wireless microphones into the first two channels, and you also get two stereo channel inputs for keyboards, drum machines, and other instruments. What's more, you can easily plug in your MP3 player, CD players, or audio from a DVD player into the CD/TAPE inputs. But, you also have two AUX sends that you can use to send streams of audio from your mixer to a digital effects unit, stage monitor, TV screen, or any number of sources. Choose the ZMX862 as the audio central command for your live performances, home studio, or video suite.

All Alto Professional ZEPHYR ZMX mixers are designed with high headroom and ultra low-noise mic preamps, so you get the full dynamic range of your mix every time.

Sometimes venues are dark and it can be hard to see what you're working with. Alto Professional solves this problem by not only color coding each section of the mixer, but also by using brightly colored knobs so that you can easily find what you need to adjust before you ever lay a finger on the mixer. The blue, red, yellow and white pots are instantly easy to identify in dim lighting. LED indicators for output level, peak, and phantom power also assist in making sure that you have multiple visual cues that compliment everything you're hearing.

The Alto ZEPHYR ZMX862 is a good sounding, reliable compact mixer for solo and duo acts, or for venues that have a need for a good sounding, small-format mixing console.

Comments about Alto Zephyr Series ZMX862 6-Channel Compact Mixer:

When I play small venues I play with tracks, so all I need is a track for vocal and one for my iPad. My guitar amp is stage sound. This works as expected, although I wish the monitor track had more umph. It's not loud enough, so I will probably have run a separate monitor direct for my in ears.

unit has enough channels for a practicing band minus drums being mic. and also have many functions, connections and options for many different scenarios. Unit does a good job for a mixer. very portable and covers a lot of needs.

      Good Quality

      By ADAM

Comments about Alto Zephyr Series ZMX862 6-Channel Compact Mixer:

I had a small 4 channel unit I have been using for years die out finally. I use this style for DJing to run Music then a Mic. I was going to replace it with a Mackie but the Sales associate told me these were on sale. I figured I'd give it a try. The mic pre's are a little warm and quiet. no huming, hissing or buzzing, and it has tons of headroom, I was running at 1/4 volume on the mast were I would normally be running 3/4 on the old peavy to get the same response out of my amp. the EQ section had nice response, and the lows were a little jumpy (big changes for little adjustment) which made it a little difficult to dial in, but otherwise was quite nice. the aux's work quite nice for FX or Monitor's. if you have trouble with one of these units, you either did something wrong, or by some fluke got a bad one from the factory, which happens with any manufacture. I would definitely recommend this to anyone that needs a small mixer for DJing or an acoustic act of sorts that doesn't require many channels. It's clearly well built and very affordable.

Great clear sound for the money

Comments about Alto Zephyr Series ZMX862 6-Channel Compact Mixer:

When I first got into multi track recording I was just using the built in ports on my multi tracking unit, when I needed more inputs I started looking around for a mixer, I stumbled upon this one after returning a behringer unit with a broken power supply that I had bought before this one. The guitar center associate recommended this one to me and I could not be happier, it interacts with my tascam multi tracking unit wonderfully and the effects loop of this mixer works flawlessly. It is defenitly worth the money I payed for it and has a better sound than an Allen and Heath board.

      Very disappointing...

      By JON MOOERS

      from Seattle, WA

Comments about Alto Zephyr Series ZMX862 6-Channel Compact Mixer:

I went to purchase a Behringer mixer and they were sold out at the store, but they talked me into this Alto series as an upgrade. The first one made horrible popping noises so I returned it. The second wasn't much better. The mic pres are noisy and all the channels seem to suck the tone out of anything running into them, plus the output was very minimal, and as I turned it, up the mixer made a lot of hiss. I took it back and plugged the exact same items into a Behringer and it sounded sweet... (Not that cheap Behringer mixers are all that great, just compared to the Alto, they sound far better...) I also double checked the setup in a Mackie and a Carvin mixer, and they both were way quieter with tons more head room. I wouldn't recommend the Altos at all honestly.
