Overview

Regardless of the application, give your mix a professional edge with 256 onboard 24-bit DSP effects designed in partnership with Alesis. Choose from room and space delays, small and large hall acoustics, plate and spring reverbs, flangers, chorus effects and more. The ZMX122FX offers 16 variations of 16 professional Alesis effects from which to build, tweak, and dial in your sound. There's even a footswitch input so you can bypass all effects at the touch, or stomp, of a button. (footswitch not included)

The ZEPHYR ZMX122FX accommodates dynamic, condenser, and wireless microphones in the first four channels, as well as keyboards, drum machines, and other instruments in the two stereo channel inputs. What's more, you can easily plug in your MP3 player, CD players, or audio from a DVD player into the CD/TAPE inputs. You also have two AUX sends that you can use to send streams of audio from your mixer to a digital effects unit, stage monitor, TV screen, or any number of sources. Choose the ZMX122FX as the audio central command for your live performances, home studio, or video suite.

High headroom, low noise
The ZMX122FX packs an enormous amount of features into a very compact space. This compact mixer brings the same standard of quality to your performances as Alto's top-of-the-line models. All Alto Professional ZEPHYR ZMX mixers are designed with high headroom and ultra low-noise, discrete mic preamps so you always get the full dynamic range of your mix every time.

Sometimes venues are dark and it can be hard to see what you're working with. Alto Professional solves this problem by not only color coding each section of the mixer, but also by using brightly colored knobs so that you can easily find what you need to adjust before you ever lay a finger on the mixer. Our blue, red, yellow and white pots are instantly easy to identify in dim lighting. LED indicators for output level, peak, and phantom power also assist in making sure that you have multiple visual cues that compliment everything you're hearing.

Features
  • 12 total inputs including XLR jacks with phantom power on channels one through four
  • Four mic input channels with gold plated XLR and balanced line inputs
  • Two stereo input channels with balanced TRS jacks
  • Extremely high headroom offering extra dynamic range
  • Three-band EQ on each channel
  • On-board digital effects processor and three-shelf EQ on each mono and stereo channel
  • Footswitch input for effects bypass (footswitch not included)
  • Two aux sends pre-channel for external effects and monitoring

Let me preface this review that I have been the "sound man" in all of my bands since 1972 so I can walk the talk. I picked this little mixer up along with one Alto 12" powered speaker to do a outdoor wedding(did not want to bring out the big stuff). I ran a piano, acoustic guitar, two vocals and the preachers wireless mike through it and I (and all the audience) were amazed at the sound. I brought the mixer and speaker to the gig and again the band was amazed at the organ, bass, electric and acoustic piano that came through.. clean and warm. I next A/B'd it against my big 20 channel board. It sounded crisp but dry and the Alto sounded "British" warm. Beside live, I have used it for recording, and again it is great. I gave it 4 stars only because it has a wally wart and I hate them as they take up to much space on a power strip. I don't know why companies just don't spend a little more money and put the 12V converter inside the frame of unit. BTW the frame is metal, laid out well, and I think can take the military drop test with no problem.. If you are a small 4 pc band I would pick this up with two matching Alto speakers (I got the second one)maybe two more for monitors and you will have no problem gigging at all

It just stopped working, I only used it once to test mic. positions for my conga set up, and I only used it at home inside. I only had it around a month and only the second time using it, it just stopped working. I first noticed when I first tried it that some of the effects weren't working, then I tried them again and they worked but some seemed to be kind of weak, I should have returned it then. Now I might be stuck with a broken mixer, I'm not sure if I've had this too long since the receipt has conveniently disappeared. I had smaller Alto that worked fine but I wanted more mic. inputs so I traded it for this one, and now that I need it for a gig it's no working.

This has good reviews, that's why I wen ahead and got this one. I'm thinking this is one of those hit or miss kind of brands.

Big features, great sound, tiny size

By Bob Ballard

from Oskaloosa, Ia

Comments about Alto Zephyr Series ZMX122FX 8-Channel Compact Mixer with Effects:

I did a lot of research and looked at a lot of compact mixers before deciding on this one. Here's why I picked it: It's the only compact mixer that has both monitor sends AND built in effects... both important features for band or karaoke use. In a footprint of roughly 10 x 10 inches, you can mix an entire small band, and do a monitor mix. There's no other mixer I know of with that capability. I haven't had it long, but the build quality, fit and finish seem quite good. Also, the reverbs and effects are excellent and it's dead quiet. The EQ is quite effective as well. The only "con" I can think of is the wall-wart adapter. It's the usual big bulky blob that takes up more than one outlet in a power strip and the wire seems a but thin. Some care in handling would be a good idea with it. Otherwise, this little guy rocks!

Nice little mixer

By Mark Hinge

Comments about Alto Zephyr Series ZMX122FX 8-Channel Compact Mixer with Effects:

When researching this mixer before ordering, I came across a YouTube video demonstrating no effects on 12 and 13, Flanger and Chorus, on his unit. I use small mixers like this for a few things, but I?m also providing Sound for a few small acts this New Year?s Eve, so for the price of these refurbished units I bought three of them. Well, turns out the same two effects, 12-Flanger and 13-Chorus don?t work on any of the three. That said, everything else works fine on all three, and for the savings I?m happy to live without those two effects, as there are plenty of usable effects left to use.

Comments about Alto Zephyr Series ZMX122FX 8-Channel Compact Mixer with Effects:

The girl who sold this to me (Charlee)uses it in her band. So I decided to try it. I bought the extended warranty so I could take it back if I didn't like it after 2 months. But it actually works great with the Harbinger® V2112 powered speaker and the Kustom KPM10 monitor. The digital delay effect really sucks. No real echo, just a delayed echo like saying Hi hi hi hi . Doesn't work for singing. So I piped in my delay unit and it worked great. The reverb section worked ok. I will say this, that the 3 volume controls are a little confusing and a little touchy. If you lower the mike gain a little, you have to bring up the section volume. If you lower that, then you have to bring up the master volume. That is reasonable, but, you can have it all set up and great sounding, and adjust the gain or section volume just a very slight amount, and the whole thing goes down in volume about 75%. So just be aware that those controls are very touchy.

Huge Plug

By Ben

from syracuse, NY

Comments about Alto Zephyr Series ZMX122FX 8-Channel Compact Mixer with Effects:

I just bought this mixer because it had many great features and it was at a great price. The mixer is nice and light and small enough to fit into my laptop bag with my laptop when i go places. The reason for 4 stars was because the wall plug is so big that it covers up other outlets on plug strips and you cant use it on 3 way plug spliters.

      Well worth the money!

      By Danny from Bronxville

      from Westchester County, NY

Comments about Alto Zephyr Series ZMX122FX 8-Channel Compact Mixer with Effects:

First let me say that I would knock off a half a star due to the flimsy power cord and connector, but there are no half ratings, so I leave at 5.

I started with a Behringer model similar to the specs of the Alto, which I used for several years, and always gave me good service. The down side is it did not have aux send, to adjust what channels go to the monitor send. Everything else about the Behringer was fine for my use (solo act - vocals, keyboard and sax). I bought a much more expensive Allen & Heath ZED10FX, but the high frequency response was not good enough, which required me to use the "shape" button on my Roland amp, which is what my mixer is plugged into. On a whim I bought the Alto, giving myself a 50-50 chance that the quality would be up to my standards. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised.

Although I haven't used it on a gig yet, the tests at home show it to sound darn good. At less than half the price of the A&H mixer, and a smaller footprint, you can't go wrong with this mixer for an inexpensive mixer for live performance. As far as effects, I only use reverb, and found it to be as good as the A&H and Behringer (ok, maybe a bit better than the Behringer).

The pots have a little play when turning, but they seem to work fine, and hopefully they will hold up over time. The layout is easy enough to make quick changes at a poorly lit gig. Construction seems sturdy enough, with a blend of plastic and metal. Isn't very heavy, which is a plus for me, since I have this permanently mounted on my Roland amp.

Overall, I'm glad I bought this little mixer and wish I had tried it a few years ago.

Bought this (along with an Alto 10" monitor) for a series of band rehearsals at my home. Very happy with it so far. Good headroom and gain on both the mic and line amps. Clean sound and extremely intuitive. Effects aren't great, but for this price I wouldn't expect that. No way to know yet how rugged it will ultimately be, but at this point I can highly recommend it as a small format mixer.
