Overview

Part of Alto's TRUESONIC series, the TS115A is an 800W Class D powered loudspeaker with a 15" low-frequency transducer and 1" neodymium driver. It provides you with two mic/line combo inputs with independent volume controls and an XLR output for linking to other speakers. Their lightweight, trapezoidal cabinet makes it easy for you to use it as a traditional upright loudspeaker or as floor wedge monitor, and it's stand or pole-mountable as well as flyable. Other features include a Clip Limiter with red LED, Ground Lift switch, and a contour switch for increased EQ control.

Versatile Cabinet Design
All TRUESONIC 2-way speaker cabinets have been designed with versatility and longevity in mind. They feature a durable, lightweight polypropylene enclosure that is stand-mountable for weekend gigs and flyable for more permanent installations. What's more, they have a trapezoidal design which greatly decreases the resonance of the standing wave in the cabinet for a more true-and-exact sound reproduction. The TRUESONIC TS115A is ideal for musicians and DJs on the move and halls, malls, schools, houses of worship and more.

Total Transparency
The TRUESONIC Series was designed from the ground up to be the most transparent loudspeaker money can buy. Rigorous testing and thousands of hours of listening have gone into making sure that what you pump into a TRUESONIC speaker is exactly what you get out. Everything you see (and some things you don't) - from internal signal path and components used to the sculpted cabinet and meticulously designed waveguide - was developed in service of the principle of accurate, transparent sound.

Super Efficient Drivers
The drivers in the TRUESONIC TS115A are designed to make sure that virtually no energy is wasted. That translates to more of the power from the amplifier actually working to generate sound rather than heat, giving the speaker better real-world performance than other speakers with comparable published specifications. The TRUESONIC TS115A offers a 15" LF driver (2" voice coil) and a 1" HF neodymium driver.

Modern amplifier design
Every active TRUESONIC speaker benefits from the use of a Class D amplifier integrated into the cabinet. Class D amps are generally lighter than Class A and AB amplifier designs, and offer more than enough power to provide your performance with plenty of punch. The TRUESONIC TS112A delivers with 800 watts of power and offers a balanced combo jack (XLR/TRS) input with level control. Class D amplifiers are also highly efficient and run cooler than other kinds of amps so the amp doesn't have to work as hard to deliver your mix.

Hang 'em High
Optimal speaker placement can be challenging, especially if your speakers don't have what it takes to go anywhere. Whether you need to fly your speakers, polemount or use them as floor monitors, TRUESONIC speakers are ready for you. All TRUESONIC speakers feature standard 36mm pole mounting insets on the bottom. If you need to fly them, it's no problem. The TS115A comes with five rigging points. All these options make the TRUESONIC one remarkably venue-friendly speaker. You can use them anywhere you need them.

Just what you need
Whether you're performing at a coffeehouse, wedding, house of worship or other small- to medium-sized venue, the TRUESONIC TS115A is your best choice. For example, it's easy to get your TRUESONIC speakers to the gig thanks to their carrying handles and lightweight design. Once you're there you won't need to be a live sound engineer to figure out how to EQ the speakers thanks to the built-in Contour EQ switch that can help adjust for those situations where an EQ alternative is needed for recorded music playback. When you're connecting everything, the TRUESONIC's dual XLR/combo inputs make easy work of your setup and each speaker's independent level controls give you the flexibility to dial everything in your way in seconds.

Full metal grille
You can never be too safe around the stage. We know stuff happens that you just can't predict. Sometimes it's the flying drumstick, a falling mic stand or worse. Every TRUESONIC speaker comes with a complete front grille from top to bottom that protects not only your low-frequency driver, but your high-frequency driver as well. With TRUESONIC speakers, you get extra peace of mind knowing that whatever comes at your sound system, it's covered, literally.

After spending some time researching speakers, I decided to drop by a GC store and listen to a few models. At that point I was torn between the Mackie Thumps and some higher rated Behringers for slightly less. I asked a sales rep what he thought was the best bang for the buck and he recommended the Alto series. He claimed to own a pair himself and stated the brand is actually made/owned by Akai. After listening to a side-by-side test against the Mackie Thumps, the choice was easy. The Altos sounded clear and present, while the Mackies sounded surprisingly dull and cheap (unsurprising, given Mackie's problems of late). That said, be aware that this is the first pair of PA speakers I've owned and I've had them for only a few weeks so far. However, when I've used them, they sound great. I'm pleased with the clarity, bass, and loudness.

I bought these speakers after listening and being very impressed in the store. I started with the Behringer 15 inch powered speakers. Theres really no comparison when it comes down to clarity of sound and the amount of bass that these put out compared to the behringers. With that said, These are not nearly as loud before they begin limiting. I am an EDM DJ and play mostly Trance, Progressive House, and Dubstep. I have already blow 2 of these speakers and I'm not just some kid blasting this music and limiting them at shows. If your going to be playing small house parties/small venues these are great for the price, but if you ever play mid to large shows don't waste your money. You might as well buy the Behringers. I recently blew out my second alto and finally broke down and bought the qsc k12. If you can save up and get these bad boys, there is no comparison in the store as far as powered speakers that deliver plenty of sound, as well as clear highs and miss and a lot of bass. Plus these have a built in limiter so its a lot harder to blow them. I am very happy with these and would suggest them all day.

Great Sound.

By Jose Ibarra

from Central Point, OR

Comments about Alto TS115A 15" Active 2-Way Speaker:

I've been a mobile DJ for 9 years, and I was looking to simplify my setup without sacrificing sound quality. I had always used JBL speakers and Crown Amps. However, the setup took up too much room and weighed a lot. So I decided to go with a Numark NS6 and recently 2 Alto TS115s along with an Alto TSSUB15. They are a lot lighter than my previous speakers, but the sound is impressive. I've received many compliments regarding the sound quality as well as the look of these speakers. I'm also looking to add 2 10s to use during cocktail hour at weddings where a second setup is required. These speakers are amazing.

Cheap Price, Cheap Speakers.

By Adam Weindling

from Boulder, Colorado

Comments about Alto TS115A 15" Active 2-Way Speaker:

These sparkers are great!... and they you blow them. I DJ EDM at medium size bars at least once a week. I have already blown the three I have during three different shows. I have pro care coverage, but I would rather not have to deal with that. I would have much rather purchased the mackies I originally wanted, but the salesmen at Guitar Center insisted I buy these Altos (They must get some kind of special commission). Moral of the story, buy cheap speakers get cheap results, even if the salesmen tell you otherwise.

AGREE WITH ADAM

By Jake Armijo

Comments about Alto TS115A 15" Active 2-Way Speaker:

These speakers kicked butt out of the box. I was in love with them. I DJ at school medium size bars and house parties (EDM and sell out music), and just as others have posted before i have also blown several of these. The tweeter remain fine its the low end that dies. I have been very cautious with them and kept my low end down and no redline or ceiling touched at all. The speaker still blew. I have pro coverage and everything and these speakers have give me nothing but a gigantic hassle for the three now i have gone through.

iPod Dock systems don't come close!

By Rachelle Moore

from Chicago, IL

Comments about Alto TS115A 15" Active 2-Way Speaker:

I am a Zumba instructor and was in need of better and louder sound for one of my biggest classes. After giving up on dock systems and picking my boyfriend's brain (who has 20 years expereince as an audio engineer) about PA/self-powered speakers, we decided to drop by a GC store and listen to a few models. At that point I was dead set on price! He said you get what you pay for and we went back and forth! He asked a sales rep what he thought was the best bang for the buck and the rep recommended the Alto series. He claimed to have worked with them on his side gigs as a sound tech. and stated the brand is actually made/owned by Akai. After listening to a side-by-side test against the Harbinger 15 inch, the choice was easy. The Altos sounded crystal clear! The bass was amazing, talk about a thump! This is the first pair of PA speakers I've owned and I've had them now for more than a month. I absolutely LOVE them! My students rave about the clarity and the loudness! They say they can really FEEL the music! That's my ultimate goal, for them to FEEL the music and let loose!

After Much Debate...

By steve derzanovich

from Johnson City, NY

Comments about Alto TS115A 15" Active 2-Way Speaker:

Purchased a pair of these to beef up the sound of my band. I had been running a powered mixer with two passive speakers. After this was no longer cutting it, I linked to of these to the pre-out of my mixer. Now, I don't hardly use the powered mixer for juice at all, just mainly the monitors. These things push! I did a lot of research and finally decided based on sound clarity and price point, and I have not been disappointed in the slightest. They are perfect for running a guitar straight in as well, crystal clear.

Great but

By Terry Howard

from Greer, S.C.

Comments about Alto TS115A 15" Active 2-Way Speaker:

I have been a DJ for over 6 years and went through many speakers but these are by far the best I have ever used. I am doing Karaoke and Dj at a medium sized bar and the sound is awesome. I have yet to turn these speakers up over half way on the speaker or my mixer. They are light weight (to me at least) and easy for me to move around. They have a good crisp sound with good controlled bass.I am already working on a back up system because my company is growing so fast and I contribute that to the good quality sound I have from these speakers. A great buy for the money.

Disappointed in Alto TS115A

By Lisa

from Nashville, TN

Site Member

Comments about Alto TS115A 15" Active 2-Way Speaker:

I was initially impressed with the Alto TS115a in the store and at home. The bass response was prodigious, and the volume was good. However, once we started using a pair of them for gigs, we noticed significant deficiencies. Difficult to EQ, poor midrange, and easily clipped. They had the typical issues of a ""box on a stick"" with too loud of a volume close up and too quiet in the back of the venue. Elevating them made no difference. GC was very good in returning the stands and the speakers however, and we took the plunge and bought a Bose L1 Model II and have never looked back! Despite the expense, it was worth it in terms of quality, ease of use, and no need for monitors. Also, a minor peeve, the volume knobs fell off easily during transport, and we had to purchase new ones from the company.

Most BANG for the buck!

By Scott Salvi

from Central MA

Comments about Alto TS115A 15" Active 2-Way Speaker:

Being skeptical, I went into my local CG to hear these new speakers. I was comparing to Mackie Thumps which were in the same price range. I was AMAZED how good they sounded. The most comparable speaker I heard were the QSC K12s at almost 3x the price! very good bass, 800W of power, and CLEAN mids & highs. Wish they carried the speaker covers too...Hope they hold up as well as they sound. Solid construction, and light cabinets. You will need a sub if you play Dubstep or dub remixes...the ultra-low bass can't be reproduced through these.

Theses are great speakers!!!!

By Justin McNeece

from Chattanooga, TN

Comments about Alto TS115A 15" Active 2-Way Speaker:

These speakers rock! I play drums and run sound for a southern gospel band, and we run everything through these speakers: keyboard, drums, bass, four vocalists, and a steel guitar. No distortion what so ever. They fill a 300 seat venue with no problems. I love the extra ground button, no need to worry about the annoying powered speaker hum. Most of the places we play do not have good wiring so that comes in handy.

Just What I Was Looking For

By Greg Hurley

from Larchmont, New York

Comments about Alto TS115A 15" Active 2-Way Speaker:

I had been on the hunt for a solid speaker that i could buy for DJing small house parties in my community. I had decided on the Behrigner 215D, and on when i went to pick it up at my local GC, i saw this, and it looked really nice. Boasting 800 watts (300 more than the Behr), i had to give it a try and not only does it hit really hard, the difference in sound quality between the 215D and this was unreal. the Behr sounded like there was a wet towel draped over the front of it, and i couldn't wait to get my own. in short, it IS more than the 215D, But it is 100% worth it. I Play a LOT of bassy techno and hip hop, and this was really all that i could ask for. Highly reccomended.

Very impressed, especially for the money!

By Dan Cartlidge

from Sarasota, FL

Comments about Alto TS115A 15" Active 2-Way Speaker:

I just bought one TS115a to replace the Yamaha Stagepas 250 that I have been using for a couple years now, and have been seemingly satisfied with the Yamaha system for the most part, except when I really had to crank it to fill some of the larger pubs and venues that I play. The pub I played tonight is one of the larger places I play, and the TS115a filled the room cleanly, crisply, with no distortion, and with bottom end and clean top that got lost before with the smaller system. I'm sure I had plenty of room to push more sound if I needed it. I am COMPLETELY on a musician's budget, so going for JBL or Mackie wasn't an option. I compared this to Behringer side by side at the shop, and this speaker had a tighter, beefier sound, as well it should for the increase in price. It still is lightweight for what it is, and compact for having a 15" bass driver and 800 available watts. I even will be able to use this for my bass for gigs where I have to be a switch hitter and play several instruments. I tested it out with my bass, and it handles it very well, so long as I don't have a huge venue to fill. I use this with a six channel Alto mixer, and run vocal, acoustic guitar, production synthesizer, and various random stuff as well...playing Celtic, folk, pop, and so on...so having a system that can handle it ALL is key for me. I am quite happy with this speaker system, and highly recommend it.

Comments about Alto TS115A 15" Active 2-Way Speaker:

I did a review on these speakers a long time ago but some how it did not registure on this review page. Maybe it's because I purchased them before guitar center had a place for them on there web site. As a DJ all I can say is wow, these babies are simply awesome. Any mobile dj out there looking for the best bang per buck in powered speakers, look no further then these. You wont regret it. I own 4 and plan on getting 2 more along with the 18" powered sub. I have used lots of speakers in the past both passive and active. These are the best active speaker I have heard in there class. Dont take my word for it, just visit your local guitar center and do a side by side comparrison like I did.

Comments about Alto TS115A 15" Active 2-Way Speaker:

I purchased 2 of these as PA mains. I read some online reviews and comparisons to other name brands speakers like QSC and Mackie. For the price, I don't see how you can beat them. Plans are to get the matching subs later on. I had one issues with one of them and GC swapped it out for me.

Pleasantly Surprised

By JEFFREY OEFELEIN

from Jacksonville, FL

Comments about Alto TS115A 15" Active 2-Way Speaker:

I am an experienced DJ and have never used, what I call, speakers on a stick. All the portable powered speakers I've heard in the past sounded OK with the exception of not being able to reproduce good bass. After being out of the business for awhile, I decided to start back up and Jason, from Guitar Center Jacksonville, FL, recommended these Alto TS115A's. After listening to them for a very short time I was sold. They sounded great in the store and after getting them home, they sounded even better. The overall sound, especially the bass, was a very pleasant surprise. Never before has I hear a pair of powered speakers with this much low end, especially at this price. If anyone is looking to purchase a FOH system and wants to keep it portable, then these are the speakers for you. Trust me you won't be disappointed.

Great value for the price

By Alvin Achterhof

from Dallas, TX

Comments about Alto TS115A 15" Active 2-Way Speaker:

I spent a lot of time and research deciding which speakers I wanted to go with. I had it in my mind that I wanted the Behringer B215D, but when I went to GC to listen to them, I was not too impressed. The clerk recommended the Mackie Thump TH-15A?s and the Alto TS115-A. I liked the low?s on the Mackie?s but read too many horror stories on them clipping too easily and also the bare minimum connections was not going to work for me. Then he played the Alto?s for me. On top of sounding great, they were low weight and had all the connections I needed. I have now used the TS115?s for a couple months and I can?t explain how satisfied I have been. I?ve done weddings with a couple hundred guest and played the music and PA announcements for a couple outdoor Rugby games. I had people comment that they could clearly hear the music and announcements all the way on the other end of the field which is 100+ yards all without any type of major clipping. There are obviously better out there, but for the price, I couldn?t be happier with my purchase.
