Overview

Part of Alto's TRUESONIC series, the TS115A is an 800W Class D powered loudspeaker with a 15" low-frequency transducer and 1" neodymium driver. It provides you with two mic/line combo inputs with independent volume controls and an XLR output for linking to other speakers. Their lightweight, trapezoidal cabinet makes it easy for you to use it as a traditional upright loudspeaker or as floor wedge monitor, and it's stand or pole-mountable as well as flyable. Other features include a Clip Limiter with red LED, Ground Lift switch, and a contour switch for increased EQ control.

Versatile Cabinet Design
All TRUESONIC 2-way speaker cabinets have been designed with versatility and longevity in mind. They feature a durable, lightweight polypropylene enclosure that is stand-mountable for weekend gigs and flyable for more permanent installations. What's more, they have a trapezoidal design which greatly decreases the resonance of the standing wave in the cabinet for a more true-and-exact sound reproduction. The TRUESONIC TS115A is ideal for musicians and DJs on the move and halls, malls, schools, houses of worship and more.

Total Transparency
The TRUESONIC Series was designed from the ground up to be the most transparent loudspeaker money can buy. Rigorous testing and thousands of hours of listening have gone into making sure that what you pump into a TRUESONIC speaker is exactly what you get out. Everything you see (and some things you don't) - from internal signal path and components used to the sculpted cabinet and meticulously designed waveguide - was developed in service of the principle of accurate, transparent sound.

Super Efficient Drivers
The drivers in the TRUESONIC TS115A are designed to make sure that virtually no energy is wasted. That translates to more of the power from the amplifier actually working to generate sound rather than heat, giving the speaker better real-world performance than other speakers with comparable published specifications. The TRUESONIC TS115A offers a 15" LF driver (2" voice coil) and a 1" HF neodymium driver.

Modern amplifier design
Every active TRUESONIC speaker benefits from the use of a Class D amplifier integrated into the cabinet. Class D amps are generally lighter than Class A and AB amplifier designs, and offer more than enough power to provide your performance with plenty of punch. The TRUESONIC TS112A delivers with 800 watts of power and offers a balanced combo jack (XLR/TRS) input with level control. Class D amplifiers are also highly efficient and run cooler than other kinds of amps so the amp doesn't have to work as hard to deliver your mix.

Hang 'em High
Optimal speaker placement can be challenging, especially if your speakers don't have what it takes to go anywhere. Whether you need to fly your speakers, polemount or use them as floor monitors, TRUESONIC speakers are ready for you. All TRUESONIC speakers feature standard 36mm pole mounting insets on the bottom. If you need to fly them, it's no problem. The TS115A comes with five rigging points. All these options make the TRUESONIC one remarkably venue-friendly speaker. You can use them anywhere you need them.

Just what you need
Whether you're performing at a coffeehouse, wedding, house of worship or other small- to medium-sized venue, the TRUESONIC TS115A is your best choice. For example, it's easy to get your TRUESONIC speakers to the gig thanks to their carrying handles and lightweight design. Once you're there you won't need to be a live sound engineer to figure out how to EQ the speakers thanks to the built-in Contour EQ switch that can help adjust for those situations where an EQ alternative is needed for recorded music playback. When you're connecting everything, the TRUESONIC's dual XLR/combo inputs make easy work of your setup and each speaker's independent level controls give you the flexibility to dial everything in your way in seconds.

Full metal grille
You can never be too safe around the stage. We know stuff happens that you just can't predict. Sometimes it's the flying drumstick, a falling mic stand or worse. Every TRUESONIC speaker comes with a complete front grille from top to bottom that protects not only your low-frequency driver, but your high-frequency driver as well. With TRUESONIC speakers, you get extra peace of mind knowing that whatever comes at your sound system, it's covered, literally.

After spending some time researching speakers, I decided to drop by a GC store and listen to a few models. At that point I was torn between the Mackie Thumps and some higher rated Behringers for slightly less. I asked a sales rep what he thought was the best bang for the buck and he recommended the Alto series. He claimed to own a pair himself and stated the brand is actually made/owned by Akai. After listening to a side-by-side test against the Mackie Thumps, the choice was easy. The Altos sounded clear and present, while the Mackies sounded surprisingly dull and cheap (unsurprising, given Mackie's problems of late). That said, be aware that this is the first pair of PA speakers I've owned and I've had them for only a few weeks so far. However, when I've used them, they sound great. I'm pleased with the clarity, bass, and loudness.

I bought these speakers after listening and being very impressed in the store. I started with the Behringer 15 inch powered speakers. Theres really no comparison when it comes down to clarity of sound and the amount of bass that these put out compared to the behringers. With that said, These are not nearly as loud before they begin limiting. I am an EDM DJ and play mostly Trance, Progressive House, and Dubstep. I have already blow 2 of these speakers and I'm not just some kid blasting this music and limiting them at shows. If your going to be playing small house parties/small venues these are great for the price, but if you ever play mid to large shows don't waste your money. You might as well buy the Behringers. I recently blew out my second alto and finally broke down and bought the qsc k12. If you can save up and get these bad boys, there is no comparison in the store as far as powered speakers that deliver plenty of sound, as well as clear highs and miss and a lot of bass. Plus these have a built in limiter so its a lot harder to blow them. I am very happy with these and would suggest them all day.

Comments about Alto TS115A 15" Active 2-Way Speaker:

I've used these at weddings, receptions, and small school dances and I was pleased with the overall sound quality especially the bass response. I've deejayed and provided sound reinforcement for over 25 years so light weight would be important for me as I get older. Unfortunately, I would not consider these as "light" but, I could not pass these up when I saw them over $100 less than the usual cost. They definitely hold up to my other speakers--JBL EON 615, Behringer, Yamaha, Peavey, Harbinger, and EV. The Alto's hold up to all these speakers except my EV ELX's (far different price point though). I would imagine that many of the people who offered reviews pushed their Alto's beyond the line input rating and into the microphone setting (BIG mistake and frankly, very amateurish). Keep that speaker volume at 12 o'clock and you'll do just fine.

My only cons are that there are no EQ functions (no biggy), feel heavy compared to my JBL's and Peavey's, and they have to be tightened down if you mount them on a pole or stand because they feel wobbly up there and thus, psychologically feel like they can fall.

Comments about Alto TS115A 15" Active 2-Way Speaker:

This speaker is straight garbage. I bought two as a back up and was a horrible mistake. The sound constantly goes in and out and with no EQ it makes it even worse. Please avoid this speaker and beware because you get what you pay for. This speaker will barely handle 50 guests with clarity on any style of music. They always smell like they are ready to blow even at headphone volumes. I have 25 years experience working with headline acts so I know what audio should sound like. This speaker is not worth even $20.

I live in a triplex and have never heard my speaker pumped near it's capacity. I've had it less than two years and the other day it went and now sounds like my smart phone playing music if I put it on speaker phone. Don't buy an Alto Speaker!!!!

The right tool for the job

Comments about Alto TS115A 15" Active 2-Way Speaker:

Considering the other reviews about the bass cones blowing out, I had some doubts about these boxes. However, I had a medium sized outdoor acoustic gig come up and I needed to upgrade fast and cheap. I latched onto these after hearing them in the store. Due to popularity, they were out of stock and had to ship them from a store in AZ (free). I got them just in time for the gig and tested them for the first time at soundcheck! They didn't disappoint. People who are regulars to our shows commented on how clear the instruments and voices sounded. As a duo, with 2 vocal mics, 2 acoustic guitars, occasional acoustic bass, keyboards, cajon, mando, banjo, and hand percussion, the sound was loud clear and perfect. I had output dialed to the 1 o'clock position and had plenty of headroom. If I were driving EDM tracks with heavy low-end, or if we ever end up in a larger outdoor gig situation, I wouldn't want to rely on these exclusively; I would add subs. Good bang for the buck...SO FAR.

        Disappointed in Alto TS115A

        By Lisa

Comments about Alto TS115A 15" Active 2-Way Speaker:

I was initially impressed with the Alto TS115a in the store and at home. The bass response was prodigious, and the volume was good. However, once we started using a pair of them for gigs, we noticed significant deficiencies. Difficult to EQ, poor midrange, and easily clipped. They had the typical issues of a "box on a stick" with too loud of a volume close up and too quiet in the back of the venue. Elevating them made no difference. GC was very good in returning the stands and the speakers however, and we took the plunge and bought a Bose L1 Model II and have never looked back! Despite the expense, it was worth it in terms of quality, ease of use, and no need for monitors. Also, a minor peeve, the volume knobs fell off easily during transport, and we had to purchase new ones from the company.

I'm a mobile DJ and started my 1st set with 2-Alto TS115A speakers & now I own 4 of the Alto TS115A's because of the great sound & durability of these. They are very versatile as well when you need to "daisy chain".

Woofers easy to blow, speakers limit to fast!

        By Andrew

        from Cleveland, Ohio

Comments about Alto TS115A 15" Active 2-Way Speaker:

This are great starter speakers. But if you are thinking about using these at bigger events, DON'T! The 15" woofers blow WAY TOO EASY. I have already blown two at DJ events with about 200 people in a pretty big sized room. I always watch my levels on the mixer, and these still blow when speaker is only turned up half way. They are a great speaker for back yard, basement type set ups... maybe a monitor.. but nothing else. They do however have surprising sound, until they blow!!!

        Modest Speakers

        By Eustorgio

        from Houston, Texas

Comments about Alto TS115A 15" Active 2-Way Speaker:

I have owned one of these TS115A speakers for about 14 months. Never heavily used but the woofer is now damaged. I read that I may not have paid close enough attention to the volume controls on the back. I often set these over the 50% mark when in line mode and, as a result, the internal amp blow out the low end woofer. I would not recommend these speakers for the true enthusiast, however, when I purchased these they worked perfectly for many of the small gigs I put them to use in. In my opinion a very ample frequency response range that any amateur like myself would enjoy for the price tag and the lightness of the product. If you do purchase these speakers understand the volume controls located on the back. They are critical to the health of your speakers.
