I am an adult intermediate saxophone player. I have owned this saxophone for about a week, playing it every day. Price was a primary consideration in this purchase. For a basic student model, it seems so far to be a good value. It plays in pitch throughout its expected range and has a nice enough tone that I am unlikely to spend two or three times as much on a higher end model to get the results I want. I especially like the fullness of the tone I get at the bottom of the range on this horn -- this may be helped by my experience playing tenor (a professional model). I added a slightly better Selmer mouthpiece and a Rovner dark ligature and am using 2 1/2 Rico reeds to this alto setup. I have not used the mouthpiece or ligature that came with the saxophone. This saxophone comes with a plastic shell case, mouthpiece, ligature, and one reed. This being my first student model saxophone, I will be monitoring its durability -- how well it remains in good repair and good tone with frequent use over time. I ordered this Allora alto because I have owned an Allora intermediate curved saxophone for about a year and like it very much -- also purchased through this store. My customer experience with this store is consistently good, with helpful representatives, easy order tracking, and responsive assistance when I need it.

Purchased a used instrument. It was sealed in a box with "inspected" tape. It arrived in unplayable condition. I took it to a local repair shop. They recommended to return it as it needed a lot of repairs. I did. I had purchased 2 new instruments previously & was satisfied but this one was unacceptable.

Comments about Allora Student Series Alto Saxophone Model AAAS-301:

Purchased for a 13 yr old clarinetist who was asked to learn alto sax for school marching band. Were a bit leery about a sax at this price point, but since it was for marching band - gave it a try. So happy that we did. Impressive looking instrument and was able to play it out of the case and fluently from a lesson book at second try. Easy to play and produces a very pleasant, warm sound. Surprised how this novice can get such a good tone. Case is nicely constructed. Did have to buy a more comfortable neck strap, and no swab or cork grease is included. Student is very pleased, enjoying it and practicing often. Don't let the bargain price stop you from trying out this sax for a student player. So far, very pleased with the purchase.

Comments about Allora Student Series Alto Saxophone Model AAAS-301:

Bought this horn for a backup to my YAS-62 and was very leery due to the price. I have been very surprised by the playing quality. Much nicer than my old Bundy II which I played growing up with as a youngster. Overall very easy to play, has some issues with the higher register, but easily belts out the low C's and B's. The action on the keys is not near as tight as I'm used to, but it can be forgiven due to the low cost. The build quality is decent, not the best, not the worst. In the end, not on level with a professional level instrument by any means, ( I won't be swapping out my YAS-62 anytime soon) but for practice and to carry to a small gig where it might get roughed up a bit this? Thing is perfect.

Comments about Allora Student Series Alto Saxophone Model AAAS-301:

My Saxophone player friend recommended this and my other saxophone player friend tested it when we received it. They both said this was a good saxophone. My daughter loves that it is brand new (instead of a rental) and there is a beautiful flower etched on the horn. I bought the maintenance plan in case it breaks which was my biggest worry. We have only had it for a week and she is a beginner but so far so good!

The Sax looked great, new, and hardley a mark, but....it had 4 valve rods that were bent and the springs were disconnected. How it got through QC is beyond me, other than, there is no QC. I have yet to return the thing, but will report on the replacement when I do. Hopefully this was a one off...but I doubt it.

Good quality construction, feels comfortable to hold, looks pretty good, but was a bit difficult to play with its mouthpiece.Tone quality of notes not as expected. This horn is good for young beginner student, but no one else.I played tenor and alto sax but quit 25 years ago.Getting back into it.Sound could be better. Thus 3 stars only.Case extras all fine. Can recommend for 14, year old, first timer.
