Comments about Allora Chicago Jazz Tenor Saxophone:

I have had this horn in both alto and tenor. First off let me say that I have a large collection of vintage and modern pro tenors. Solid silver Yani, King S20, MKvi, you get the idea. I bought this used to resell. In that respect it is worth 2/3 of its new price one you own it. Cosmetically it is a beauty with excellent engraving. The tone holes rings that are soldered on can be inconsistent. These need to be inspected carefully. Send it back and get another if there is a problem. The horn has a nice sound. I thought the alto was a little blatty sounding and didn't care for it. I also have the Paris series tenor. I think I like it a little better. These horns are not as good as Cannonball quality if you want to compare them to other Taiwan made horns. However half the price of a new CB. If you buy this horn I would take it to a tech to get it checked out. I do my own work so I did that myself. I found several pads on the alto that were not seated. I found a gouge from a file mark on a tone hole and a tone ring that had not been soldered on in one spot. I found one hole that didn't have a ring at all. I wouldn't let that scare you off as you can send it back and have them send you another. Just get it checked out if you cant do so yourself or get the paris series and avoid the tone hole rings. I give it a 5 for looks and a 3 overall. However that is in comparison to some great horns.

Comments about Allora Chicago Jazz Tenor Saxophone:

There are many fine professional grade saxophones on the market from Selmer, Yanagasawa, Yamaha and others, but they are pricey. If your budget doesn't allow the purchase of one, the Allora is a great choice. It's workmanship, tone and appearance are on a par with the expensive makes, and it's price is far less.

Comments about Allora Chicago Jazz Tenor Saxophone:

This sax is well built however it's not comfortable to play if you have small hands. The tone is nice and dark for jazz, church etc. The lacquer job was not good which in my opinion made this horn look cheap, and I didn't like the hardshell case it came with. There's not enough room for strap, reeds and mouthpiece. However if looks is not a problem it's a very good product for the money.

    Poor Quality Control

By You name 'em and I'll maim 'em.

    About Me Professional Musician

    Pros

    • Beautiful On The Outside

    Cons

    • Leaks Throughout

    Best Uses

Comments about Allora Chicago Jazz Tenor Saxophone:

Tried two, one demo, one new. Sent both back. The demo had several leaks but found a flaw in the C# tone hole edge which had a gap that the pads could not seal. The second one which was brand new had several leaks out of the box. I also found that the left hand "D" palm key seemed too low. I kept hitting the "Eb" palm key while trying to press the "D" palm key. That is an ergonomic issue that I don't like. It's a beautiful horn but I would not recommend the the investment. If you can't afford the cost of a new horn or a vintage Selmer Mark VI (which I am not impressed with)...save some money and get yourself a Conn 10m from the 1950's through the mid 1960's without the "naked lady" engraving or rolled tone holes. They play very well and in my opinion sound better than many of the newer horns that cost much more. I have a new Yanagisawa T-991 which I do like very much and it came delivered from the factory with no leaks and to this day still has no leaks. I got it at a good price but now they are out of reach for many aspiring players. Stay away from these "cheap" imports that look good but do not deliver.
