I graduated from the Nation's formost repair school (Allied).I performed Musically In over 8 Marine Corps Bands and was selected to be repair tech for the President's Marine Band. I have worked with several well known universities to advise and lecture repair, design and music accoustical dynamics. Don't waste your money on expensive sopranos. This is a great horn for a pro, doubler or student. I'm usin' it on my next gig. Even the mouthpiece is good; use Hemke reeds.Even the most expensive horns are not more than 10% better than this! This is a way better axe than Trane had for "My Favorite Things"!!Also very mechanically sound-ribbed construction!!!

I took a chance on this sax but am disappointed. The mouthpiece this sax included with was useless, If you plan on trying this horn buy another mouthpiece with it. The tone holes for the octave key on both necks were not centered, on one neck the pad leaked, making the lower register unplayable, the other neck the pad did not leak but the octave key assembly was not mounted straight, it was not bent, but incorrectly made at the factory. I light checked the pads and found a few other minor issues, pads not centered over tone holes etc. I returned the horn and will be looking for another horn with some quality.

Comments about Allora AASS-301 Series Student Soprano Saxophone:

I actually got two of these saxophones, both were majorly flawed. The first one I received just out from the box, already had a broken G# Key. So, we had to send it back to get a replacement, which also resulted in having to buy another one. The second one had errors on the straight and curved neck. The manufacturers didn't smooth out the neck, so even when the neck screw is fully tightened, the necks would still move around. Only the straight one was repairable, but within the next few weeks, I had to take it back to the shop multiple times. The register key stopped properly working a few times, the keys from A down to the low B flat would stop working because of a specific screw on the side, that has to constantly be adjusted, only for it to undo itself after ten to fifteen minutes of constant playing at best. If you are going to buy this instrument, don't. It's better to put in more money for a better quality saxophone then to end up spending the same amount, possibly even more on repairs for a terrible saxophone.

Comments about Allora AASS-301 Series Student Soprano Saxophone:

I was about to return this saxophone but I took it a professional repair tech. The guy checked it and it was nicely built. Soprano saxophone IS. a hard instrument to control at first. It takes TIME to adjust to the feel of it. This is a good starter to start off with and would recommend this sax. The one thing is to buy another mouthpiece like Yamaha or any other mouthpiece, also reeds. It's workable but I wouldn't preform or practice with it for long.

Comments about Allora AASS-301 Series Student Soprano Saxophone:

I was highly surprised by this horn. I decided to roll the dice on it and was greatly pleased with what I got. There was zero problems with the instrument upon arrival. It looks great, and sounds just as good. One word of warning though, the mouthpiece truly is horrible. I expected this to be the case based on the other reviews, but it took me by surprise how bad it actually was. That said I picked up a Rico one for around 20 and that fixed all my problems.

Comments about Allora AASS-301 Series Student Soprano Saxophone:

I've played tenor sax for the past 5 years and was interested in picking up soprano, it was only going to be a side instrument and as I didn't plan to play any performances on the instrument I ended up getting a cheap model. Very bad decision. This sax is a pain, the low #c key broke the day I got the horn, and the #f key frequently gets stuck on the g key, and the the tone is in no way shape or form consistent. It is not a fun horn to play and its not even viable for beginners, they'll get annoyed and frustrated and give up trying to learn.

Comments about Allora AASS-301 Series Student Soprano Saxophone:

I purchased this soprano saxophone for my son. He is in high school, plays alto sax in symphonic band, and plays tenor sax in jazz band and marching band. He wanted a soprano sax to have at home to play around with.

Per the reviews on this site, we also bought a Yamaha 4C mouthpiece. My son did not try the mouthpiece that came with the saxophone.

When we received the saxophone, several of the notes would not play correctly. We took it to the woodwind tech at a local music store, who looked at the issue and said that some pieces were out of alignment and not covering the holes properly, and that he could fix it but that it would cost some money. We explained the issue to customer service at Musician's Friend, who promptly shipped a new soprano saxophone out to us.

The second saxophone played much better. However, there were still several notes that whistled when played. We took this saxophone to the local woodwind tech... He found some small issues with some pads not sealing properly, which he fixed in a couple of minutes for free. His recommendation was to have the saxophone adjusted again after it had been played for awhile.

At this point we are happy with the purchase and Musician's Friend. Overall, this saxophone sounds good, and it's perfect for what my son wants to do with it. It's not the same quality of materials and craftsmanship that you get with the better name saxophones, but that is reflected in the price. I'm not sure if the quality issues we saw were typical or not.

My main concern was that this wasn't going to be a "real" instrument, but a toy that no amount of effort could make usable. That's fortunately not the case. This is a very playable instrument that sounds good (though it took a little extra work to get it that way)

For the money, this is a great instrument. Sounds good, plays good. Intonation seems pretty consistent through both octaves. I went ahead and ordered a yamaha C4 mouthpiece due to the terrible reviews on the original one. Started playing right out of the box. Never even tried the original mouthpiece. Yes, it's a lightweight instrument, but take care of it and you will have lots of fun. By the way this comes with an angled neck as well as a straight neck. The angled neck allows for easy use of the neck strap which is a plus.

I ordered this because of some of the positive reviews. I wanted to start learning the sax immediately and didn't want to save up for an actual instrument. The horn plays. It struggles to play the low register but I'm a noob so could be operator error. The g key needle spring keeps falling out of its pillar, I have to shove it back in at least every ten minutes of play time. The mouthpiece is worthless, Yamaha 4C is a cheap alternative that sounds good. It is what it is. A cheap horn. With all the pros and cons associated with it. But it does play.

i recently ordered and recieved this and i find this great quality beautiful tone/beautiful sound , beautiful design ,it plays very easily i am happy i bought it . the only thing is the mouth piece that this comes with the mouth will not let a sound so i ordered a yamaha 4c sopano sax mouth piece and the sax plays beautifully so it was only a problem with the mouth piece that comes with it , so you do need to order a mouth piece with it and i suggest the yamaha 4c soprano sax mouth piece it works great ,and by the way the stand for soprano sax is the same stand you use for flugelhorn so if you cant find soprano sax stand get the flugelhorn stand it the same stand peg/stand. also the flugelhorn mute is also a soprano sax mute. order this you be happy you did but also buy a mouth piece when you buy this get it i am glad i did.
