Overview

The Allora AAFG-103F Series Bb Flugelhorn offers a rich full sound and great intonation. This AAFG-103F Series features vertical valve slides with a 3rd valve slide trigger and a rose brass bell for a warm, rich sound. The rose brass construction of this instrument is nothing short of stunning. It is a good-sounding instrument, and it plays well.

A lot of trumpet players would love to have a flugelhorn for one or two songs in a set, or they want to have one to explore ballad playing, but they don't want to spend the one to two to three thousand dollars you need to in order to get a truly professional horn. This is the perfect solution for that situation.

I played trumpet and flugelhorn throughout high school but I've never owned my own (I always rented the school's). So after almost 2 years of being hornless since high school I went looking for a horn online. I knew I wanted a flugelhorn b/c it suited my needs best (and frankly I like them more than a trumpet) but the prices are usually insane. when I saw this horn I knew I wanted it and a few weeks later it was on sale so I bought it.
Anyways it's been a few days now and I'm loving the horn. The tone in unreal, nice and warm, smooth, and a little dark. The look of it is stunning, the construction seems solid so far. The extendible lead pipe and 3rd valve trigger are a must on a flugel horn (though the intonation on this horn when playing the third valve is actually pretty nice)
The only complaints I have are the case (which is decent but not the most reassuring) and the mouthpiece (which is decent but feels a little shallow and makes it a little difficult to keep a note steady but that's probably cause I'm used to a Bach flugel mouthpiece)
Other than that zero complaints, if you've looking for a flugelhorn that'll deliever w/o breaking the bank, this is it.
Cheers

I was a little worried when I bought this strange horn made by a company without a website, but it cost so little and I desperately needed it for an upcoming performance. That was a year ago, and I've been happy with it to this day. It looks beautiful and everything on it works as long as you maintain it (slides, valves, trigger...). It's definitely on the darker, mellower side of the spectrum: it's great if you want to sound like Chet Baker, Thad Jones, or Roy Hargrove. If you want to sound like Clark Terry, this is not the horn for you. It puts out a wonderfully dark, airy sound that's great for everything from ballads to sambas. The action's not too heavy and it lets you move your fingers fast enough to bebop your way through a tune. I honestly don't know how it compares to big-time professional horns because I don't own one, but it's an excellent beginner horn.

I can't put out a good sound in the upper register with the mouthpiece it comes with. I've had to get a "real" one, but with all mouthpieces, there are probably some people out there that sound great on it. The case it comes with can't handle much wear and tear. It once slipped out of my hands, fell 4 feet and got a big crack on one of the corners that just keeps getting bigger. I would recommend getting a "real" case (like a ProTec, Marcus Bonna, or Raw Brass), or even better just put it in your combo case (because you're probably not gigging on only a flugel anyway).

5 stars for a beginner horn (just get a new case and mouthpiece)
Thank you Music 123 for your great service with this horn

I recommend getting a better quality mouthpiece such as a Denis Wick 4FL to bring out the most of this horn's quality. It's really fun to play!

Comments about Allora AAFG-103F Series Bb Flugelhorn:

This flugelhorn is very beautiful with an excellent tone. Even though it isn't a noticeable brand name, the workmanship and quality compares with some of the best. I know others will argue this point only because they paid a lot more for their flugelhorn.

Comments about Allora AAFG-103F Series Bb Flugelhorn:

Other than the case leaves no room for music. You would need to re drill it to carry more than one mouthpiece, The mouthpiece that comes with the instrument is a cheap generic and I'm not convinced it's even a Flugel mouhpiece, I believe it's a trumpet. The horn itself is beautiful with a lacquered Rose Brass and has a separate 3rd valve key that many less expensive Flugelhorns don't offer. The sound is right up there with may of the $2000 horns. The horn arrived 3 days after order which was a pleasant surprise..Yay, Guitar Center, I am very impressed with their prices and customer service. I give Guitar Center 5 stars....

Comments about Allora AAFG-103F Series Bb Flugelhorn:

As a returning musician after a hiatus of 35 years, Starting again was good move, started back where i had been with Trumpet, now includes Cornet and now this is my first go at Flugelhorn. I have to say I've made a good choice in this one. I came in perfect condition and though Flugelhorn can be hard to tune this was tuned right out of the box. A great robust mellow sound that is what the Flugelhorn is noted for. Allora has really done a great job on this one, a great sound from an instrument that doesn't break the bank and is fun to play. I think I'll get quite a few years enjoyment from this one. Thank to Allora for a great job and to Music123 for such a great deal.

Comments about Allora AAFG-103F Series Bb Flugelhorn:

This is a beautiful horn both physically and tone wise. As previous reviewers have stated it has a deep smokey tone which is exactly what I was looking for. I love the two tone finish. Valves move smoothly right out of the case. It's a pleasure to play this horn every time. Definitely worth the price, except for the case. It is very cheaply made and there is no space to store valve oil or other small items you may need. The horn is what gets the 5 stars!

Comments about Allora AAFG-103F Series Bb Flugelhorn:

For the price I have been very happy with the Allora Flugelhorn. I purchased this to play occasionally in Jazz, Wind Ensemble and Orchestra pieces. I am not a professional by any means, so I just wanted to have a flugel for the sound knowing it would not get played more than a dozen or so times per year.

The valves are pretty stiff so far, but they have never once stuck and that is a good thing. I think they will continue to loosen up as I play more.

The case is pretty lame. Another reviewer called it basic. The case weighs maybe 1 lb total. I purchased the Protec Delux Flugel bag for it and am very happy with that as well. You could use the case for a while, but I think that most people would want a better one for transport.

I also purchased the K&M Fluegelhorn stand with 5 legs and it fits great, both as the stand, but also in the horn while placed in the Protec bag.

Overall, I could not be happier with the purchase and expect to play on this for many years to come.

Right out of the box this horn has performed above my expectations. The horn itself is very appealing to the eyes. Tone is rich and mellow and a bit dark. Valves are responsive and perform well. The mouthpiece that came with it is an F1 and conforms to my playing purposes since I am used to playing with a Bach 7C on the Bb trumpet. The horn case is a bit on the generic side. Overall this flugelhorn is well worth the money and will not disappoint. I am a satisfied customer.

Comments about Allora AAFG-103F Series Bb Flugelhorn:

Get a better mouthpiece than the one included with the horn. It will improve the sound dramatically.

Also, burnish the valves and the valve action will be very responsive.

This horn is a great value for the money. I plan to use it much more than I originally planned because I love the mellowness of the sound for many jazz and ballad songs.
