With its responsive touchscreen, 25 motor faders and acclaimed AnalogiQ™ recallable preamps, Qu-24 Chrome-Edition combines exceptional ease of use with class-leading audio performance. Drawing on the technologies and workflow pioneered on Allen&Heath's GLD and iLive touring systems, Qu makes Allen & Heath digital mixing more accessible and more compact than ever. Qu V1.8 Chrome firmware (scheduled for release in mid-October) adds hot new features, including Automatic Mic Mixing, more monitor mixes and a Spectrogram for feedback-hunting. Qu Chrome Edition models also feature upgraded, high contrast metallic finish controls.
Qu-24’s twenty four AnalogiQ total recall preamps feature zero crossing detection and an advanced padless 1dB step gain stage, closely allied to the DSP for optimal gain accuracy and audio transparency. The analog signal is captured by high class, low latency 24-bit analog to digital converters matched to high quality 24-bit digital to analog converters to deliver the required outputs. The AnalogiQ design has been refined to offer superb transparency, minimal distortion and an ultra-low noise floor, with a warm, musical sound that is missing from some digital consoles.
The Mixing Experience
Having massive processing power and advanced functionality is great, but it counts for nothing if you can’t access the controls you need in a heartbeat. Once you start using Qu-24 you’ll sense the years of research into ergonomics and the hands-on mixing experience to deliver a wonderfully natural layout and workflow. It’s not about recreating an analog interface, it’s about creating an experience that’s fluid, comfortable and intuitive for novices, digital natives and old school road warriors alike, making all the benefits of digital mixing technology readily accessible to all. High contrast metallic finish controls complete the picture, offering excellent low light visibility and enhanced tactile control.
The 800 x 480, 16-million color Touchscreen and its dedicated data encoder form the heart of the Qu interface, providing super-fast, easy access to all settings. The user-friendly interface has been designed with clarity in mind. Dedicated keys and screen tabs quickly guide you to meter and RTA views, FX racks, channel processing, USB audio control, scenes, setup menus and much more.
All your key processing tools are presented in a clean layout on the SuperStrip, with 1 function per physical control. The SuperStrip is complemented by an onscreen Touch Channel for intuitive access to full processing parameters without clutter or complex menu structures. Processing for Mono and Stereo inputs includes trim, polarity, HPF, gate, insert, 4 band PEQ, compressor and delay. The main LR and the Mono mixes have controls for Insert, 1/3 octave GEQ, compressor and delay. The Stereo mixes provide Insert, 4-band PEQ, compressor, delay and balance control.
Fader automation is essential for rapid mixing, especially when you’re dealing with multiple monitor mixes – just press a mix key and the faders immediately fly to the send levels for that mix. Qu-24 features 25 motorized ALPS faders, 24 arranged over 2 layers, allowing instant access to all channels and masters in a compact space, plus a dedicated master fader which dynamically follows the mix selection. A third, Custom layer is available for ad-hoc user strip layout, where any combination of Inputs, FX Sends, FX Returns and Mix masters can be assigned.
Qu-24’s dynamics and FX algorithms are derived from the FX used in Allen&Heath's iLive pro touring series. Some of the world’s most respected audio engineers have chosen to use iLive’s FX on tour in preference to top-end plug-ins and external FX units. Qu-24 boasts 4 stereo iLive FX engines, featuring lovingly crafted emulations of legendary classic reverbs, gated reverbs, delays, modulators, flangers and more. The FX library has the ability to grow with future firmware releases. FX are returned to the mix on dedicated return channels, so you’re not tying up your mono and stereo input channels. Each Stereo FX Return has a dedicated 4 band PEQ.
Automatic Mic Mixer (AMM)
AMM is vital in applications such as conferences, meetings and panel discussions where a number of microphones are open at the same time, reducing background noise and minimizing the risk of feedback. The Automatic Microphone Mixer feature helps the engineer to manage the levels of multiple mic inputs, ensuring that each speaker’s contribution is heard. Allen&Heath's D-Classic dynamic gain sharing algorithm is inspired by industry standard automixers. Up to 16 microphone sources can be mixed at once, with each channel having a priority setting which determines its ‘weight’ in the total system gain.

I was in the market for a few things - DAW, Mixer/Digital interface, mic pre's, compressors, EQ, etc. I was scouring google for many months for a mixer. I looked at just about all of them. My goal was this:
* Recording the jam sessions in my "make shift" jam room/recording studio.
* Build a home studio for both personal and professional recording use
* Record Rock/Pop bands, metal bands, cover bands
* Live sound when we gig
I'm asking a lot of any mixer - and what system would be able to do all this really well. Granted, I've been recording less than a year, but I'm definitely the type of guys that likes to do his research and believes in having the right tool(s).
Why I chose the QU:
* Mic pres built in with A/D convertors - they are SUPER clean - almost too clean in some cases (i.e. DI guitar). Good news is, that's why they make plug-ins for DAWs for a more analogue feel.
* The parametric and graphic EQs in this system are amazing. They have put together some pre-sets based on Mic engineering input, but I'm more of a "turn the knobs" kind of guy. Amazing the flexibility in the built-in EQ.
* Automatic faders are just cool - let's face it
* It is also a DAW controller - and does exactly what I need it to. I definitely more of a tactile person when it comes to recording. I've worked with analogue 4 and 8 tracks for many years. It's doesn't map everything - but maps everything I need to use it for.
*24 Channel for live sound for recording or stage. Enough I/O for every situation I will be using this mixer.
* USB 3.x connectivity for DAW on Apple or PC.
* PC/Laptop can be a big challenge. Not A&H's fault, just the way Windows uses IRQs. DPC latency is a constant problem with WAN/LAN and AV drivers/software. Thankfully, I have an older Macbook Air (4 years old) that works great and Reaper works with - and I don't have to disable internet access or AV to get it to work.

Don"t Be Scared!! Allen & Heath are one of the leaders in pro audio. Yep, I know about Midas. Great as well. It is about personal preference but do not look away from this company and their products.
I was thinking about the new audio desk and I was looking at this one, QU24 and the Behringer X32. I didn't really want 32 channels, but looking back I should have just bought the QU32. Going back to the review of the board, I feel that the work flow is very easy as compared to the X32. The one difference that I could tell right away was the amount of excess noise from the X32. I've dealt with it on a few other X32's that were already in place as a house system. The X32 does have nice features as well as the Qu24 & Qu32. The Qu32 has a few more features than the Qu24 but both of those boards are equally fabulous. The one thing that you have to do with these digital boards is play with it and explore the boards capabilities. Do this before venturing out for a show. Not the place to figure out how a board works. I bought the Digital Stage Snake (AH2412) and the Cat5 cable to use if I didn't want to use my iPad to run the board. The Cat5 cable I bought was one the Behringer recommends and It was A LOT less expensive than the Allen & Heath Cable. The great thing too is that even using the Cat5 Cable with the Digital Snake, I will walk around the venue with the iPad to make minor adjustments. Be aware that you need your own designated router for this. I bought a dual band and have it password protected so no one but me can use it. There are two applications that are smart phone friendly from Allen&Heath that enables the musicians on stage to link with the board and they can set up their own mix. Granted the hardest task about this is to get the musician on stage to attempt it. There are a few bands that I run sound for and they all have learned how to use this feature and love it. They only have themselves to blame for a poor stage mix if they use the application.
