Comments about Alfred The Zen of Screaming 2 (DVD):
I found it very difficult to find a good vocal teacher for that screaming style. I actually had a grammy award winning singing teacher, when it came to classical, he was phenomenal. But just Bon Jovi would be a little to "hard" for his teaching. I tried to do it myself to get that shriek, but found that it hurt my vocal cords and I didn't want to hurt them beyond repair. I bought this DVD and watched it a few times and it made a lot more sense. One thing that they really do a decent amount of is exercises that can help you VISUALIZE your technique. And behind each one, there was a anatomical explanation. It really let you understand every aspect of screaming, as well as quickly reviewing how to correct any mistakes. One thing, in particular, that I really like about this DVD is that Melissa Cross REALLY understands what a heavy style is. No mercy, no holding back, full force screams. Some other vocal coaches think of heavy as moderate rock where they just have a raspier sounding voice. No, I want a full force, all out SCREAM. Good DVD all in all.
