In addition to Stefan's expert transcriptions, the book includes a CD containing the original artist's recordings so you can hear and feel the music as it was originally performed.

  • Authentic audio and faithful transcriptions, but not a great "How To" book.

As reviewed by Jim B on 6/28/2011

If you're already pretty well-acquainted with fingerstyle blues and slide, then this book is a cool package of traditional delta blues audio and readable tabs/lyrics, but don't expect to learn technique from this series. There are nice historical tidbits but no discussion of musical theory or finger placement. The recordings are delightfully scratchy but still clear enough to hear the sounds of real delta blues from back in the day... you can feel the emotion within the music and imagine the culture and landscape of the old south... but the old recordings make for more difficult play-along with the tabs, especially if you're struggling to make out the nuances of a phrase (a mixed blessing). If you're a beginner, you'll still need a lot more basic blues instruction and theory to get you to the crossroads.
