  • Interesting dvd to say the least...

As reviewed by kurt on 10/17/2006

Well I bought this back in the summer when I was first really learning to play and it was a little over my head being I was a beginner... but the dvd is geared to that skill level. So for me it was a little confussing just due to the fact that the exercises go over a lot of different scales and such, but going back to it now its not so overwhelming. So I would say that this could be a little much at first for some but I guess its just depends on how well you understand. Me not knowing theory at the time it was just a little to much. However beside the difficulty of understanding it the exercises are invaluable in helping you improve your lead playing. I also really enjoyed how after every lesson or section John gave some personal advice on playing, practicing, and his regimen. So overall this dvd is worth it but probably isn't something you just want to start out with.

  • Excellent method

As reviewed by 3pretenders on 7/31/2006

In just a few weeks I have increased my speed and accuracy immensely. I really like the method Petrucci presents for structuring your practice time. Great for intermediate to advanced players that want to take their playing up to the next level. Petrucci turns out to be a great instructor as well - very well done.

  • A must for your video library

As reviewed by Justin on 10/20/2006

This is a must have for everyones guitar video library. Great exercises here for the intermediate to advenced player. I don't think the whole DVD has beginners in mind, so if you are just starting, don't get frustrated with some of the exercises. This DVD is great and will help you get off your practice plateau, so to speak. I also like that it goes through good varying tempos, not just moderately slow and then make your earsbleed fast (Yngwie DVDs). Petrucci is a good instructor, and the newer DVD has behind the scenes Dream Theatre footage and back stage practicing/ warmup before the show!
