Take your blues guitar skills to the next level with this book & CD pack!

Intermediate Blues Guitar starts with a quick review of the fundamentals, then moves on to blues fills and phrasing techniques, non-scale tones, chord extensions and substitutions, R&B, funk blues, and more. The final section is devoted to licks in the styles of master blues guitarists. All music is shown in standard notation and tab, and the CD demonstrates the examples in the book. 96 pages.

As reviewed by Jim on 4/12/2011

Way too much chatter and dissection, not nearly enough playing! This entire series is poorly executed, and this book is the worst. It should be called "Reading About Blues Theory." I'm surprised that the books are even advertised as a series, as each one has nothing to do with the others. There was no obvious collaboration between authors (each book has a separate author!), and thus there is no step-by-step progression of lessons, as might be expected from a series that purports to teach beginning, intermediate and "mastery" of blues. The pages are redundant, and the idea that you'll be a master of the blues by book three is absurd. You'll be little more enlightened than you were after going over the Beginner book, or after watching free videos on the internet. The Mastering the Blues book is more like the intermediate level (it's done much better), and this Intermediate book is... well, pretty useless, unless you just want to talk about your fretboard. The play-along exercises are limited and shamelessly simplistic. Save your dough and find another course to spend your time and money on. I had high hopes and was sorely dissappointed in this trio of instructional books. Try "Blues You Can Use" for a great intro to blues guitar, or just buy the Mastering Blues Guitar book and skip this Intermediate nonsense.
