Comments about Alesis Vortex Wireless Keytar:

This is a fun little USB controller that I picked up to use live with my band. I alwsys wanted a keytar, but never wanted to shell out bug bucks for what is essentially a novelty. It is very easy to use [plug and play] and has good range. The wireless gives me no problems and it is fully compat6wirh my Cubase 8 DAW. It also comes with a free Sonivox download exclusive to the Vortex with dun sohnds and effects. Unfortunately, the Alesis brand has gone downhill over the past few years. The quality had a cheap feel with lightweight plastic. The first one I got didn't work out of the box and hsd to be returned. The 2nd one works fine. Also, the Vortex sounds DVI coupon didn't work and I had to call Sonivox in order to get it for free as advertised on the box. I am happy overall with the board and for the price you can't beat it.

Comments about Alesis Vortex Wireless Keytar:

the keyboard is very lightweight at 6.5lbs. the included strap too short & generic. had to order a gel strap pad & leather strap extender. the free software is difficult to download & the free sounds aren't very useable they whet your appetite to order the more expensive useful sound palette which i declined. i use it with a midi sound module. can only split the keyboard to use 2 sounds at once but can't layer them! keyboard action is a bit spongy compared to my other synth keyboards.the user manual is below average quality needs some more work adding pages of how to do certain things which otherwise takes days to get a proper response from their toll free customer service line. the editing software is also not user friendly, so half the buttons & features are not intuitive but virtually useless! AC power supply not included & should be!

Well ..... I mean ....

Comments about Alesis Vortex Wireless Keytar:

Dear Alesis,
You must make a better manual and tutorial for this keytar. The keytar itself is great, but if the consumer has no previous knowledge of midi applications and programming he/she will have a very difficult time using it to its full capacity. I ended up searching the internet (Youtube) for tutorials and even with that it took me a little while to program the patches (via Logic)(there is a little bit of a latency issue when switching patches once they have been programmed, so if you plan on performing, make sure you master the switch).

You will need to get strap blocks for the straps. Dropping this thing is quite painful to hear.

Although there is an application for it to sync with Abelton it is limited (I will update this once I have completed my ingestion of the manual).
You'll also have to download the software, Vyzex Vortex... lots of pdfs ... lots of huhs? ... but once you're good, you're good.

Guitar Center,
You should sell this product with the case as an option to purchase. Can't tell you how many times I've almost dropped it ... and it's plastic ... and just ... yea.
Other wise, I'm wondering if the white version will come out ... hopefully ... eventually ... and hopefully the manual for that will be better.

Comments about Alesis Vortex Wireless Keytar:

Great for a concert and very fun as well as entertaining. Fun to practice. You can even use it for recording.

Down side is it takes time to get used to because it's not just a keyboard you can turn on and get to work on like most of Yamaha. It has to work through a program and through computer speakers so the directions come in handy including if your not used to the midi part. It would be nice if there were video step by step instructions too and have looked for those but the reading instructions are set out very well.

Broken out of the box

Comments about Alesis Vortex Wireless Keytar:

I got my Vortex today in the mail. It did not work out of the box. I'm pretty tech savvy, so don't think it's me. I will return it to the store and try again. I used to love Alesis, but now they are bottom end. I am only going to try again because it's the only keytar in my price range right now. I will update once I get the next one.

Comments about Alesis Vortex Wireless Keytar:

I've had my Vortex for a year now. I bought it because I wasn't sure if keytar was going to be something that would work out for me. Turns out I love keytar, and that the Vortex was not meant to be a full time musical instrument for a year and a half. They keys aren't great, at first they were just cheap feeling but now they occasionally stick, or don't play, or play with a little delay intermittently. The wireless usb plug case also came apart very early one and I lost half, so if you get this I suggest going ahead and preemptively taping it together. I've taken it to all of our gigs, practices, and practiced daily with it and I just don't think it was made for the abuse. It definitely served it's purpose and I think I may have gotten my money out of it, but now that I've grown use to it and become a bit better, the keys are an issue, and the overall limitations of what you can actually do with the features has me excited to move. I found the software to be a little limiting, and ended up not finding much use for the ribbon or accelerometer, and just used it with Reaper.

I would recommend this product if you just want to play around, or can't afford something better right now.
