This is my second electronic kit (first being the Yamaha DTX). As far as appearance goes, this kit looks sharp and feels great. I am very impressed with the hardware, pads and cymbals. The pads have a real drum head, but the aren't as soft as the V-drums. It feels like a rubber pad just beneath the head. I was expecting softer, but it has a nice bounce and all the pads are dual zone. The cymbals have a good feel and best of all they are circular. There is nothing worse than hitting triangular pads on cymbal stands. The hardware is very durable and has notches in the tubes to prevent pads from pointing down when you hit them (like the old DTX's did). The Kik pad is also very sturdy. Hi-hat pedal is ok, but doesn't really have the feel of a true hi-hat, I think that is universal among most e-kits. Only complaint was the computer integration and EZdrummer lite. The EZdrummer lite registration number was wrong and I had to contact toontrack to get a new one. Toontrack was very helpful and quick with tech support, but the EZ lite doesn't let you play crash or rack toms. In other words you will have to buy a better drum software. Also, I messed with the Trigger I/O before I knew what I was doing and had to do a factory reset on the Trigger I/O before I could get it to make sound in EZ lite. Just a helpful hint if the software is working and you aren't getting sound. Also, Kit 0 & 1 will play in EZ lite. The Alesis manual I had still had the drum presets as BFD lite, so it made things confusing. Also, need ASIO driver or there is a delay (that is super easy to download off the web). Great kit, supplied software and computer integration is a hassle (hence only 4 stars). Once set up it sounds as good as the software you are running.

So it's been 3 months since I bought this drums, it's really nice but I didn't manage to explore very well all the things that can be done with it. See I consider my self a beginner because I use to play when I was little but it's been ten year since I didn't play anymore, so what I can tell is that I don't really recommend this product for a beginner because it's not just plug and play. The program that comes with the drum set it's not good, so I bought the EZ drummer and installed in my GarageBand, so you have to have the minimum ability with computer programs for musicians, but that was the biggest problem at all. The problem was that the manual that comes with the drum set only helps you on assembling the set, and a four year old can do that. It doesn't explain, how to program and to work with the computer programs etc. I was only able to make it work because my boyfriend is a musician and helped me. So if know how to use EZ Drummer and Garage Band or Logic and you are interested on a good drum set for registrations, it's just perfect for you, very solid, very real sound (if you are able to work with the parameters and everything). But, if you are a beginner and just want a drum set for practicing I really don't recommend! Go for something that already comes with a module and many presets were you could just plug and play and have fun! Hope it's being useful! =o]

Good for the price!

Comments about Alesis USB Studio Drum Kit:

This product has a very diverse range of sounds that you can easily combine to create a custom kit. It offers many options from a built in metronome to line out to P.A. or headphones. The only problem that I've come across is that the bass pedal sometimes has trouble keeping up when playing rapidly or at higher tempos.

Straped for cash? This is your set!

Comments about Alesis USB Studio Drum Kit:

This set is great. For half the price of some of the higher end electric sets you will be very pleased with its performance. Its portable and easily can plug into a PC or Mac for recording purposes. If your looking for a first electric kit I highly recomend it.
