The Alesis QX49 USB MIDI keyboard controller can take command over any parameter of your favorite music software. Through standard USB connection, the QX49 receives power while also transmitting MIDI data to your Mac or PC software or hardware device of choice. Punch out a drumbeat on great-feeling pads, open up a filter with smooth, tight knobs, or adjust volume and playback of sequencing software with long faders and snappy buttons. QX49's immense parameter control and velocity-sensitive keyboard get your hands off of the mouse and into the action for a more efficient, visceral music-making experience.

With a 49-note keyboard, the QX49's pitch range is perfect for performing with software instruments and samplers while still remaining highly portable. Furthermore, the Q49 provides keyboard players with a full compliment of controls including pitch and modulation wheels, octave up/down buttons and the ability to send program changes directly from the keys. The QX49's keyboard can even be split into sections to control multiple instruments at once!

The QX49's array of assignable controls works with virtually all music software and MIDI hardware devices. Whether you're looking to fire drum samples, tweak a software synthesizer or adjust individual tracks in a mix, the QX49's extensive layout ensures appropriate feel and proper response with its eight sliders and rotary knobs, four backlit drum pads and dedicated transport controls.

The compact controller features USB-MIDI and traditional MIDI jacks for easy connection to Mac, PC and MIDI hardware. The QX49 also has two traditional MIDI jacks: one for sending MIDI data directly from the keyboard and the other for routing MIDI data from a connected computer. When not using a computer, the QX49 can also be powered using a wall power adaptor (sold separately) to perform and control MIDI hardware. A footswitch input is also included on the back panel.

The QX49 comes with a copy of Ableton Live Lite Alesis Edition software for performing, recording, and sequencing music right out of the box. The QX49 is also the perfect choice for controlling hardware MIDI devices. Its compact size and portability make it ideal for fitting into existing rigs and then hitting the road. Place it a tier above an existing workstation keyboard and utilize QX49's streamlined layout to maximize your sound and performance options

Nice Keyboard

By Shayne

from Gilbert, AZ

There are definitely better keyboards out there, but this is a good product at an affordable price. People complain about the pads. I think of the pads more as lengthy sample triggers. They don't react quickly enough to capture fast tapping, but then again there are only 4 pads. In conjunction with something like a launchpad, it's great. The transport controls, sliders, and knobs feel sturdy and work without problems. Good buy on a budget.

overall good midi device

By Jacob Diaz

from Pasadena, Texas

The keys work great, no problems there, the buttons are a bit stiff and you have to pretty much jam them to get them to work. the faders work nicely and so do the knobs. a huge setback are the pads and the transpot buttons. the pads aren't very sensitive and are kinda hard to work with. they aren't accurate to hit. the transport buttons, which are the play, stop, record, etc., are also almost unusable except if your just playing back. you have to hold down the button that you want

Plays nice with Ableton

By Matt Waddell

from Milwaukee

Picked it up for a steal on Presidents day, keys are what you would expect they would be for a midi controller they're alright but, definitely better than any other controllers in the price range. Some of the other reviews mentioned keys sticking but i have yet to run into issues. Once you add the mappings from Alesis's website to Ableton the keyboard worked without any problems. The knobs are mapped to whatever parameter your working on so laying down those synth tracks are a quick and painless process.

Great midi key bed, thats about it

By Malenko

from fredericksburg, va

Okay so youd expect for everything to be 100% Ive enjoyed alesis products over the years, I thought it was quite nice that this midi keyboard out of the box automatically installs into your windows 7 computer. heres the catch, i plugged in my roland sustain pedal and guess what? it holds sustain. Whats wrong you might ask? it doesnt reset to 0. It holds the sustain at 127 (full) or 87/98%. I switched the polarity on my sustain pedal and it still didnt work. the keys feel fine, the knobs are tight...the screen helps you navigate programming.
