Comments about Alesis Pro X Hi-Hat Dual Cymbal Hi-Hat Controller For DM10/DM8:
first off, so happy to be back to a hi-hat stand as an Alesis user. only 4 stars because the top hat isn't all that nice to play. it's HARD plastic, so it's very loud. it's very thick in the area around the clutch, so the "natural" swing is clunky. there is a solution though!!! i am using my 12" Surge hi-hat cymbal as the top hat. it works perfectly, has that "natural" open hat swing, and it quieter. if you have Surge cymbals, just think of this as a bottom cymbal/controller upgrade... not just a replacement. set up, like most Alesis drums, took a bit of tinkering. definitely not perfect out of the box. no big deal though. besides updating the firmware (super easy), and calibrating, mess with the pedal curve. i found myself using one of the curves that i would have NEVER used with the RealHat pedal. after choosing it though, super responsive. i'm very happy with it.
