I bought this mixer to use as a USB interface for my laptop. I had previously been using the M-Audio Fast Track Pro for this. The Alesis runs circles around the Fast Track in terms of features, sound quality, and overall ease of use (for the exact same price). The effects aren't great, but they're better than some. The EQ functions are fantastic. The only gripe I have is with the software. The Cubase-LE program is not very self-explanatory, and there is no software documentation with the product (however, the manual for the unit itself is very concise and informative). I'm currently using Adobe Audition 2.0 with Amplitube for effects. Seems to be a pretty good combination for this unit.

I bought one of these for recording, but it's almost unusable. Whenever the USB cable is connected there's a loud, high-pitched buzzing which is audible through the Control Room out, although it's not audible through the USB recording interface. I encountered a lot of problems with the USB functionality. It can not be both a recording and playback device, even when not using an ASIO driver. If one program is using it as a playback source it will record only silence and vice-versa. Eventually, the USB port stopped functioning entirely; it started out with "a USB device connected to this computer has malfunctioned" and then moved to complete refusal to recognize it on three different computers (Windows XP, Vista, and Ubuntu). It doesn't even show up as unrecognized in the device manager, it's as if the USB port isn't even connected. The Main Mix knob creates a lot of hum around 500Hz if it's turned more than a quarter of the way, so if I want to record from it I have to connect to the Control Room outputs with a seperate USB audio interface. Save yourself a lot of trouble and pay $100 more for a decent mixer.

Comments about Alesis MultiMix 8USB Mixer with USB and DSP:

Use this for live performances mostly. Have used it 50+ times throughout the years and hasn't let me down. The built-in effects are decent and get the job done. I have also used it as an interface to record and have had zero issues.

    It's a mixer. USB Fail...

    By FLY

Comments about Alesis MultiMix 8USB Mixer with USB and DSP:

Purchased strictly for the USB recording option, to be used as a stand alone focus group recording system. The USB drivers are not automatic for windows 7 and were not inuclded in software. Also there is NO support from alesis.com for this unit. I was unable to find 3rd party drivers to make it work. Which is shocking. There are 3rd party drivers to connect everything else to windows 7 why not this device? not to mention the crazy amount of heat generated by a mixer with no amp was astounding. Furthermore it's too compact if you have adult fingers turning the pots is difficult without bumping nearby pots. The effects are silly does anyone use these? Alesis could use it's history to offer a built in sequencer that would be worth buying.

Can't Beat it for the Price

    By Adam H.

Comments about Alesis MultiMix 8USB Mixer with USB and DSP:

I purchased this on 12/27/09 and now use this mixer as my main line mixer out to a couple different power amps for my live sound and recordings and it is versatile enough to use for track recording as well and have logged close to 25 hours on it so far. The phantom power on the first 2 channels make this perfect for overhead condensers for recording drum tracks. I really don't use the FX so I can't comment on that. I use this with Nuendo 2.0 and haven't had any issues at all. The knobs do, however, seem a little chintzy like even if things get packed against it a little too tight, they might break. Just be sure to treat it like it's a newborn baby. If you're as finicky as me and know how to take care of your things, this mixer should last for a while.

Comments about Alesis MultiMix 8USB Mixer with USB and DSP:

i like this mixer quite a bit, im currently using it to do some recordings with one of the bands I am in, I run a DI box through it to record guitar and it has 4 inputs perfect to record a drum kit. and vocals sound pretty good too. i am overall satisfied with this product. it includes a trial version for Ableton Live which is most helpful. I am quite happy with my purchase.

    Great for starters.

    By Kyle Mcmullen

Comments about Alesis MultiMix 8USB Mixer with USB and DSP:

I bought this mixer about a year ago, for both recording and live sound. I have no regrets of buying this product. It works great with Cuebase LE 4 which came with it when I bought it at guitar center. The USB interface works great for just about any recording software. I enjoy using the mixer for live audio and recording what I play live. I used this mixer in my studio for recording with my band. At first I thought that 4 inputs would not be enough inputs for my drum mics. Turns out thats all you need. bottom line its a great product at an afordible price. I highly recomend this product for starters.

    Good for the price.

    By Alex Whalen

Comments about Alesis MultiMix 8USB Mixer with USB and DSP:

I got this little mixer for my drum set at my home studio. With the 8 inputs it was perfect for my drum set. The recording program it comes with is works great if you get use to it, but to me I thought it was kind of a hassle. The usb input is fast and accurate, the body of the mixer is strong and durable. The only downsides i found to it was a little bit of his that ended up on recordings, its not much of anything really, you would need good ears for it to bother you. With the multiple outputs and 3 band EQ it doubles as a great small stage soundboard as well. For the money I say that this is a great buy. I would recommend this to any musician wanting a small home studio, or trying to make a good sounding demo cd. Although the live soundboard feature work great on this, I wouldn't recommend this for someone who just wants a soundboard for say a theater or concert hall, you should get a much bigger soundboard.

    Works Well

    By Coupwcu

    from Exton, PA

Comments about Alesis MultiMix 8USB Mixer with USB and DSP:

This is a good board for doing some home recording by your self or with just a couple other people. The plug and play USB made it real easy to hook to my computer and the Adobe program that I am using with it. And on the plus side if I ever want to use this live for a small venue (really small) it has all the correct out puts for that too. The 100 some effects the board comes with is a nice touch but most of them have a very metallic/digital sound to them, so if you have pedals I would use those in stead. Overall a great board for an even better price.
