Alesis Crimson set is an awesome set overall! - About 3 hours from box to drumming, Have it hooked up to Simmons DA200S Drum Amp so the sound is excellent! Bought on black Friday at GC - so got a good deal on both! Novice drummer that could not be happier that I went with Alesis Crimson instead of cheaper set. Amazing sound! Video on GC site does not do the sound justice! Nice looking set! Always complimented when showing set or pics... Set can be spread out for full size look or scrunched up for compact space. Here is a breakdown of components:
-Rack - Awesome! Very sturdy 4-post aluminum rack, could do a handstand on it! -5 Stars
-Mesh Heads - Amazing! Nice bounce! Real drumming feel - No Guitar Hero rubber pads! Very durable and should last a long time! 8" kick bass is a big plus! Better than any other heads I tested! -5 Stars
-Cymbals - Good sound, Hi-hat misses occasionally, two 12" and one 14" cymbals sound good! -4 Stars
-Snare Drum - Perhaps the best feature on the set, 12" with great sound and own stable stand! -5 Stars
-Hi Hat pedal - awesome - surprised at the quality! (makes up for hi-hat missing occasionally) -5 Stars
-Module - Very Good! Relatively easy to figure out, 50 drums kits are awesome! -4.5 Stars
Have added Gibralter stick bag, LP Black Beauty Cowbell and Toca mounted drum Tam already, so the set is expandable unlike cheaper sets. Alesis support is lacking as expected, not able to register - because Alesis does not have the Crimson set on their website yet... Overall a great set with real full size drumming feel - no doubt that this set is the best on the market for the price! (comparable sets could easily be $2500)...

Bought the kit new, and within 2 weeks of playing it I started having triggering issues with the snare. I paid to have the snare sent to Alexis for them to fix/replace under warranty. After 5 weeks I heard nothing back from them. So, I sent an e mail to the person that I was working with. Another week went by...still no response. So, I called and left a message on his voice mail. 4 days later...still no response! So, I sent him another e mail asking him "to please help me, and let me know what's going on. Finally, got an e mail back saying he would get on it right away, and get back to me within the hour. Guess what? Never got back to me! So, I tried calling Alesis again to speak with someone else...got put on hold for over 20 minutes, and decided to just hang up since it was a long distance call. A week and a half later, I get a snare drum in the mail. Opened the package, and it was the wrong one (color & size). Sent another e mail to try and find out why they sent me the wrong snare...no response! Tried calling again, same thing, on hold for over 15 minutes. I'll add this too...After I sent off my snare to Alesis, I figured I would use tom #3 in place of my snare, so I could keep playing the kit. After playing the kit for a week, I started having the same triggering issues with tom #3! So, I'm probably having some sort of issue with the module that's causing whatever my snare chord is plugged into, to short out. Unfortunately, I'm just not able to get Alesis to help me out, even though the kit is still under warranty through them. Absolutely the worst customer service experience I've ever had!!

Comments about Alesis Crimson Electronic 5-Piece Drum Kit with Mesh Heads:

I recently purchased this kit in December of 2015. I wanted to take advantage of the 20% of coupon. I then purchased the 3 year protection plan and I am glad I did. I have played the kit less then ten times and the mesh head on the snare has shredded and it resulted in a big hole already!! I am not a hard player at all and cannot believe this has already happened! Honestly that is ridiculous that the mesh head needs replacing after only playing the kit for such a short time. I also noticed the head phone jack was loose when I plugged in my headphones. Where was this kit made? Very frustrating when you spend this amount of money and don't get a quality product! Save your money!

Comments about Alesis Crimson Electronic 5-Piece Drum Kit with Mesh Heads:

Owned the kit for about 3 weeks before the module locked up and screen froze on firmware version. No sounds and buttons completely unresponsive. Alesis support said they have never seen this problem before and set up RMA for replacement with a new module. That was about 2 weeks ago. Maybe the new module will get here soon because I sold my old kit and now I have no drums.

Even with all the bad reviews of Alesis products I took a chance on this kit. Very disappointed to say the least. I would look elsewhere if you are considering any Alesis product.

Comments about Alesis Crimson Electronic 5-Piece Drum Kit with Mesh Heads:

This is a great kit. The response of the mesh heads are outstanding. I was skeptical that I would not get the same "bounce" with the mesh heads verse the hard surface, they actually turned out to be better. The pick ups allow for true sound when striking the drum. The harder you hit the more sound you get. I really like the snare being on its own stand verses being attached to the rack. I keep my snare close to me and tilted forward a bit,the stand allows for that. Set up was easy. Takes up a lot less space for gigs. Go by Guitar center and play this one, I chose it over the Roland.

Comments about Alesis Crimson Electronic 5-Piece Drum Kit with Mesh Heads:

It was difficult for me to sell my acoustic kit, but this electric kit instantly filled the void. I live an apartment, didn't really have space for my full kit and wouldn't have wanted to make the noise anyway. My drums were stacked up in a closet so I finally got rid of them and purchased the Crimson. It took a while to set up the first time, understandably, but now I can actually fold it up and keep it stowed when I'm not playing it. Requires minimal time/effort for me to set up or break down when I want to play. I can put on headphones and play any time day or night.

The value in this kit is amazing, especially considering the all mesh heads and sturdy rack. At first the triggers weren't quite suited for my playing style, but with some simple tweaks on the brain I was able to get it working perfect for my approach. I love messing around with the different kits/sounds. I got this with the intention of practicing, but I would gladly put this thing on stage and perform with it. Your sound person would love you for having one simple out port and no mics to mess with. Huge fan of my new Crimson and have no regrets whatsoever about going electric.

Bought these for my husband who is a former drummer but gave up drumming to focus on work and raising our kids. Now that they are grown he has some free time back. We love the ability to play with headphones so the rest of the house can not be disturbed. He's enjoying getting used to drumming again.

The only downside is during the initial setup, he found the instructions to be a bit unclear. Thankfully his familiarity with drums and putting things together allowed him to get it done.

Comments about Alesis Crimson Electronic 5-Piece Drum Kit with Mesh Heads:

after reviewing and trying out just about every e-kit in the 300-1000 dollar price range, I stated out with the Alesis Forge. While the forge kit had the great rack a full responsive range of pads and the module that is used in several more expensive kits, I felt I made a mistake not getting mesh heads.

I returned the kit and got the Crimson mesh, and I'' so glad I did. In addition the the awesome chrome rack, now I have all mesh heads and multi-zone ride and crash cymbals.

The dual-zone mesh heads have a great feel and response, adjustable via the module and there is a sensitivity knob on each drum. Head tension can be adjusted just like an acoustic drum to get the right feel.

Having had a kit with single zone cymbals, the multizone is a must have. I especially like the 3-zone 14" ride with bell, bow and edge. It is solid and responsive, as is the dual zone crash. I had a Roland PD-8 and added that easily expanding the kit to include 2 additional cymbals. There are no compatibility issues with the Roland pad. I also hooked up my Alesis control pad to add 8 more pads into the set, and I still had 1 more trigger input left. I now have an amazing array of pads and sounds for live performance, practice and recording.

Regarding responsiveness of the overall set, if set up correctly, works great, assuming the kit was set up carefully and correctly. I''m left-handed, so it meant reversing everything, and there was no problem doing so. For those negative reviewers, I would recommend doing a factory reset to begin, then adjust voicing and triggering to taste. Also, for the bass drum, get a quality drum pedal and rubber beater ball. I''m not using double bass, but I am doing triplets and tight bass drum work and it is accurate.

Comments about Alesis Crimson Electronic 5-Piece Drum Kit with Mesh Heads:

Not a bad E-Kit by any means. Great for practicing when volume is an issue. Another cool thing about this kit is you can change the Tom layout. I've set it up as 1-up, 2-down, rather than the pictured 2-up, 1-down.

There's one major hiccup that really tics me off about this kit. The kick pad is not responsive to quick kicks, so you don't get every crisp kick. Steady double bass patterns sound great, but the faster you play the less the trigger picks up.

All in all, great practice kit but not if you're a metal drummer.
