Improving with time!
First we have owned the Alesis IO|26 for nearly 6 months and even though we had some initial issues, they were easily worked out. For the potential buyer, note that our unit arrived with the old firmware loaded. The instructions (if you read them) actually warn you about this as they have free firmware updates on their website. We did experience the volume issue discribed below by another owner but overcame that with better cables. I can also configure an output port to drive the head phones (which is nice considering the output ports have more configuration control). All in all the unit has performed well for live use and we are about to use it in a studio environment due to its versatility.

sweet n sour
i got this thing with the intention to record up to 8 tracks and also be able to edit each one individually with my favorite program of choice(Audition). i record with a laptop, and quickly discovered that the firewire cable it comes with isn't compatable with mine. i then splurged and bought a 6/4 firewire cable for $50. well, i try setting it up with Audition 1.5, and soon realize i needed to upgrade because it didn't support ASIO.(so i pirated one..ARRRR, get over it!)
hook up my drum mics, and all seems golden...or does it? when i armed all the tracks, and recorded a drum riff, it captured it nicely and sounded amazing! (a little too much bass in the snare, but can be easily edited out), well, now comes trying to use headphones with it. i plug in, and can hear it, but the volume is so low that your playing completely overpowers it, and at this point, im not about to buy a headphone monitor. the thing has 2 headphone inputs, but is a pain in the ass to figure out. Although it sounded great after it was recorded, i took it back, because my 30 day return policy was wearing thin by this time, and i don't have the time to spend learning how to operate it at %100. I will continue researching online to see how to solve these problems, because the unit itself is a really great idea/cheaper than firepod/ and sounds amazing even in a basement, and if i find what i need to know, i'll go buy it again.

BEWARE - DRIVER ISSUES
I bought two of these and although they have great features, there is major driver issues. My computer is plenty fast with 3gig of RAM, 1000mhz front side bus, so it shouldn't have any issues. The alesis will just shut my computer down with no warning. We eliminated that it was an electrical issue and determined that it is something to do with the drivers that is mkaing my computer shut off...
