I needed a keyboard mostly for recording through a USB port, but also wanted the MIDI output too. This one does it all. They keys are good, especially for the price. Not weighted but the pressure sensitivity is good. I haven't used the midi controls features yet, haven't really figured it out.
What can I say about this unit? It's everything you need and nothing that you don't. Of course, in this price range you don't have weighted keys, but that isn't an issue at all for me. I don't need the control surface and pads that some units have, so why would I pay more to have them? I compared this to the Oxygen, and I just thought that the build on this felt better and looked nicer. A pitch bending wheel is a deal breaker for me, so when I saw that this has a pitch wheel AND a mod wheel, I knew that this was perfect for me. I've never owned an Alesis product that has let me down and this is no exception. I've had it for about a year and it still works and looks as well as it did the day I bought it. In this price range, it is unbeatable. And it doesn't look like a toy on your studio desk. I know that there are "better" units out there, theoretically, but I cant imagine why I would ever want anything else. And at this price point, when it dies, I'll just get another one.
I chose to buy this keyboard because I needed an upgrade from my Behringer UMA25S and I didn't want anything too complicated, like extra knobs and all sorts of buttons. This was a good choice because this keyboard doesn't need any drivers for it to work and it literally began working right away within' minutes on my DAW(Sonar Home Studio 7XL) once I plugged it into my Windows XP computer with the included usb cable. It comes with a Ableton Live Lite disc and small manual also. If you want a quick, simple, affordable keyboard that you can use right away with basic features like octave switching, volume, velocity, pitch, and modulation then this is for you.
