  • Great Interface

As reviewed by C.L. Hard on 5/10/2011

I use this interface with Logic Studio on a iMac. I could record all of my tracks at once in one take with my fellow musicians with no problems. Must make sure that in your recording software that all channels are open and armed which can easily be forgotten. Then set to read to record the signals. This mixer is a great piece of hardware to have in your setup but you must make sure to read upon the software as well as the system to make sure the functionality of the interface works properly for your system. I am Highly impressed with how this interface works.

As reviewed by Phil on 1/28/2011

Here's the real deal on this mixer. I've read a lot of reviews on how it's not compatible with Windows 7. Well I ran mine through my computer Windows 7 64bit with no problems. After going to the Alesis website and downloading the driver for my system It went right to work. No problems running it on all separate channels through Sonar Producer 5 software or Acid Pro. It's easy to use and all that if you're looking for a multiple channel mixer that's not going to take all your precious recording time figuring out how to interface it. The sound that comes out of the mixer is good as well and the effects make it a well rounded mixer. The knobs are cheap plastic and have a little tikes toy feel to them and aren't the greatest to use but they are colorful and easy to recognize. It just feels cheap and they don't have any resistance nor have the smooth feeling of a good mixer with a little resistance to keep you within the lines. They're small and too close together as well. But they do a great job with the sound of the highs and lows as far as frequency response. I've been recording for a few years now and have used the least to the greatest equipment possible. On a scale from 1-10 I'd give this one a 5. The reason for the low score is this ... The things feels like it's built by the people at Mattel who make kids toys. Could be a positive because children abuse toys and they still work great. But a if the toy cost this much the toy should feel like it's built with more quality in mind. The recording had latency. Clicks and pops and all that stuff you hate to hear in your music is there too. It gets hot as well. Very hot for a new mixer. I brought my first one back because of the heat intensity. I don't think this thing has any fans in it. I brought the second one back because of the latency and clicks and pops. If you're not looking to record a good product then it's a great board to get your music or whatever it is you're looking to do on files. Or if you're looking for a decent live board with affects and is small and rack mountable for less then I'd say go for it. But if you're wanting a well rounded quality board that records all channels separate you'd have to dish out a lot more money. I personally ended up with a Allen & Heath Zed . I can only record 2 channels at a time with it but the quality is so much higher all around. Hope this helps

First off this mixer is fine for live use, or practice sessions. For studio use I would stay clear of this mixer. What the specs do not tell you is that for recording the mixer is 1 in and 1 out, meaning you can not Multi-Track with this. All of the 16 channels get combined to one channel to record. Otherwise the mixer is ok for everything else. If you really want to record get an interface with firewire, you will be much happier!
