A drum set you can carry under your arm!

The Control Pad features 8 velocity sensitive pads with gum rubber surfaces for excellent stick response as well as two trigger inputs for connecting external pads such as the Alesis Drum Pad and Cymbal Pad expansion kits. Further, there are two switch pedal inputs to accommodate open and closed hi-hat as well as kick drum. Percussion setups are stored to internal memory and are accessible via MIDI program change commands. In addition to being USB bus-powered (eliminating the need for an external power supply while connected to a computer), the Control Pad includes an AC adapter for use without a computer.

The Control Pad is a compact drum/percussion system that functions equally well as a recording tool and as an on-stage electronic "trap table." It is a must have item for serious recording musicians and a valuable tool for percussionists seeking to lighten the load in terms of the number of accessory instruments they carry.

Comes with BFD Lite drum module
The Control Pad is bundled with FXPansion's BFD Lite, a professional drum module with high-quality acoustic and electronic drum kit libraries.

Applications
The Alesis Control Pad is limited only by the sound sources connected to it. As a MIDI controller, it can trigger samplers (sampled sounds and sampled sound effects), drum machines, and synthesizers. Melodic percussion (mallet instruments such as vibes and marimba) can be played by assigning the desired MIDI note numbers to the controller's various pads. The Alesis Control Pad is perfect for the following applications: • Programming of drum and percussion parts with a MIDI sequencer • Studio recording • Live performance-primarily as an expander instrument for shakers, congas, bongos, etc.

Alesis Control Pad USB MIDI Percussion Pad Controller Features:

  • USB/MIDI drum controller for studio or live use
  • 8 high-quality velocity-sensitive percussion pads
  • 2 trigger inputs for connecting external pads (compatible with the Alesis Drum Pad and Cymbal Pad expansion kits)
  • 2 switch pedal inputs
  • Up/down footswitch input
  • USB plug-and-play connectivity (no drivers necessary)
  • USB bus-powered (no power supply necessary when connected to a computer)
  • Includes FXPansion's BFD Lite professional drum module with high-quality acoustic and electronic drum kit libraries
  • PC and Mac compatible
  • MIDI I/O
  • Pad sensitivity adjustment
  • Stores MIDI setups with program change capability
  • Power adapter included for use without a computer

Beware if you intend to use to use external pads

I purchased the Alesis Control Pad as well as Roland KD-8 (kick drum) and PD-8 (to function as a hi-hat) trigger pads to attach as external triggers. I wanted to have a set-up with a feeling closer to a real drum set. I've been quite satisfied with the Control Pad unit on it's own. Even after playing around with the sensitivity settings, it seemed the rubber pads needed to soften up and get broken in to provide the appropriate responsiveness so that I could play faster rythms such as 32nd notes and rolls. It works quite well now and I am pleased with the product in that respect. If you don't expect to attach any external triggers, I believe you will be satisfied with the Alesis Control Pad. BEWARE: If you intend to attach external triggers, beware since the Alesis Control Pad does not operate properly. Frequently, there is a glitch or conflict of MIDI signals when the Alesis Control Pad sends them from the external triggers. Every once in a while, MIDI notes from external triggers are completely dropped. For example, when playing straight 16th notes on the hi-hat (the Roland PD-8) and straight quarter notes on the kick drum (Roland KD-8), the Alesis Control Pad will (every two to three measures) fail to send a MIDI bass drum beat. The MIDI signal is completely missing......it is not heard and does not even show up in my Cubase 4 recording track. Of course, it's possible to go into Cubase, hunt down the missing beats and fill them in, however, this is not so efficient......and not how the Alesis Control Pad is advertised nor meant to work. I understand that Alesis has been aware of this problem since the spring, however, one wonders how serious Alesis is about support for the Control Pad when it doesn't even appear listed in the support section of their website. In summary: If you don't expect to use external pads at all......go for it. The Alesis Control Pad works as advertised. If you plan on using external pads, look for another product or wait until Alesis resolves the technical issues causing missing MIDI notes from external pads.

It is good for the money

I have owned the Alesis Control pad for about two weeks, it is good midi percussion controller for the money. The pads are little harder than the Roland SPD-20 but it does have senstivity. But I was dispointed with a few features in it, like the hihat pedal only does splash/click sound, so you have to play the hihat open/close pads to get the open and close sound for the hihat. Also, when changing the midi drum notes on it and then turning it off, it goes back to the default settings, there is no way to save the changes that I made on the layout I wanted. So I wasn't happy with the Alesis Control Pad so I am returning it to get a Roland SPD-20 or Drumkat DK-10. It is a good product for the money thought.

Alesis Control Pad

I use this with the included BFD Lite, and its awesome. Great response and awesome reflex when I hit each pad. Ive used the DK1 and I still like this one better. Its also super easy to customize with the settings on the unit itself to work with midi and what not. I love this little unit.
