The Akai Professional SynthStation25 transforms your iPhone or iTouch (with 30-pin connectors only)into a portable music production studio for mobile music creation. SynthStation25 gives you 3 powerful synthesizers for creating and modifying sonic textures used for melodies, chords, and bass lines. Drawing on Akai Professional's rich history in music synthesis and taking a page from their newest MINIAK synth, the SynthStation25 sounds great and offers wide-ranging sonic flexibility with its virtual analog synthesizer.
With the Akai SynthStation25, you have a piano-like keyboard with which you can create and save sequences or complete songs. It contains a trio of different 3-oscillator synths and a range of drum kits you can sequence and mix right in the SynthStation25. For creating melodic and accompaniment parts, the SynthStation25 contains an arpeggiator with preset patterns, built-in effects and filters, and an XY control interface for expressive control of key parameters. It also has a MIDI output for connection to computers.
The SynthStation25 has an on-screen piano keyboard so you can key in ideas on the go. The SynthStation25 enables you to create and produce music anywhere on your iPhone (up to the 4s) or iPod touch (with the 30-pin connectors only). Embrace the future.
Note: The SynthStation25 (hardware only) does not include the app. The SynthStation App is optional and available via iTunes download.

Just bought this a week ago and loving it. Great instrument to toy around with, works smoothly with Akai's interface, and you can't beat the price. Great option for anybody who's wanting to experiment with a synth.
I don't have very many complaints about the SynthStation itself. I'm not overly fond of the keys, though. They feel squishy, and not at all comfortable to use. I also get a lot of double hits when using them. I'm also not overly fond of being limited to the mini USB port. Don't let that stop you from buying it, because those are the only flaws I can find. As for the software, the Akai app isn't all that great, but the other apps made for it are excellent, and affordable. I would really love to see more, if not all piano/synth apps compatible with this device one day. Another little gem, is that it tells you when your batteries (4 AAA)are running low. At first I thought my iPod was going crazy, giving me a low battery level warning after having just fully charged it, but it turned out to be the SynthStation doing so. I was really impressed with that.
I saw this at NAMM and thought, "...this might be interesting..." That's a bit of an understatement!!!!! This thing changes everything! I usually travel with my PC and a bunch of junk, External KB controller, MIDI Interface, or a USB KB controller and my notes, but now! I put the Synth Station with my iPod Touch, in my notebook sleeve and leave the rest behind. I've found "Akai's Synth-Station App to be OK but they are just the tip of the "i-Burg" (so to speak) CHECK OUT "MIDI Synth", "NanoStudio", "50in1 Piano" and "MusicStudio" APPS on the Apple "App Store" ALL THESE APPS WORK WITH THE AKAI!!! They work flawlessly and I'm telling you, If you don't think that this little workstation is more than worth the price, you're not paying attention!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you can't make at least a good demo for your song, you're not trying! These tools are more than I had for three times the price just 5 years ago.. NO EXCUSES!!! Get to Work!
