Overview

The Akai Professional MPK25 is a portable keyboard controller with MPC production controls. Based closely on the MPK49, the first keyboard ever to feature MPC pads, the MPK25 scales down the keyboard to 25 keys but retains the utility, capability, and flexibility that made the MPK49 one of the world's hottest keyboards. Its smaller, more portable size makes the MPK25 the perfect travel companion. Its small footprint can fit in your lap on the couch or on a plane, enabling you to create tracks whenever inspiration strikes. All you need is your laptop and the MPK25.

Creative Input
MPK25 combines a 25-key keyboard and 12 genuine MPC pads. The keyboard is semi-weighted and features aftertouch for expressive melodic control. The MPC pads are pressure and velocity-sensitive to capture every nuance of your creative concepts. The pads can access four banks of sounds, so you have 48 samples at your fingertips with the touch of a button.

MPK25 places dedicated transport controls within your reach for easy control of some of the most important tracking and editing controls. The MPK25 has modulation and pitch-bend wheels for expressive musicality, and two assignable footswitch inputs enable you to connect an expression pedal or other continuous controller and a footswitch for momentary controls like patch change or start/stop.

Q-Link Command
One of the most important input devices on an MPC is its Q-Link assignable control section. The MPK25 gives you twelve virtual knobs and four virtual buttons that are assignable to control nearly any software parameter. You can control two different parameters per Q-Link thanks to the knobs' dual-bank selection.

Expressive Engine
Two technologies pioneered in the MPC series and built into the MPK series are MPC Note Repeat and MPC Swing. These note-modifying features can be heard in many of the most popular tracks over the last two decades. MPC Note Repeat is a capability that enables the MPK (or MPC) to automatically play a rhythm pattern, such as 16th notes on a hi-hat, for accuracy and speed of entry. MPC Swing is sometimes referred to as "the heart and soul of hip hop" because it turns perfectly aligned sequences into human feeling time alignments. You can specify exactly the degree and timing of swing you want to apply for the perfect feel.

On top of these MPC technologies, the MPK25 has its own arpeggiator, which enables you to create quick, creative riffs in seconds. MPK25 also has MPC Full Level and MPC 12-Level on its pads, as well as Tap Tempo and Time Division so you can nail the tempo, timing, and dynamics exactly as you hear them in your head.

Complete System
The MPK25 is a MIDI controller that sends its MIDI values over USB. It is bus powered, so all you need to connect and power the MPK25 is the supplied USB cable. Because it is MIDI compliant, the MPK25 works with most MIDI recording, sequencing, and performance software for musical performers from keyboard players to producers to DJs. It's even a great option for VJs.

The MPK25 comes with Ableton Live Lite Akai Edition, one of the most popular and powerful performance and production software programs in the world. Ableton Live Lite enables musicians to spontaneously compose, record, remix, improvise, and edit musical ideas in a seamless audio/MIDI environment.

This controller is exactly what I was looking for. I've got several keys and drum machines and have been using Reason for years, but always had issues with getting them to work easily with my computer. This thing worked immediately and within 5 minutes of hooking everything up, I was sequencing tracks. As a side note, I am using this as a controller only so having just 25 keys works well for me because of the small footprint in my studio. It doesn't come with any sounds like some other controllers that are trying to be more than a controller. Best money I've spent in a long time.

I have owned this piece of equipment for almost a year now. personally i LOVE banging out on the MPC pads, so if you do too , do not purchase this MIDI. the pads are sooooo hard that i got blisters from constant use(though after breaking the pads in, they get a little more sensitive and a better feel, not to mention that your fingers will be stronger). Also, the note repeat plays out of time in FL Studio, which is my DAW of choice. i was amazed to see how uncomfortable these pads are to use considering AKAI's MPC legacy. On the other hand, the keys are fantastic, though there is only 2 octaves, they have a really smooth feel and are pleasing to use. Personally, i do not use the knobs that often, but when i do, they have a really soft feel to them, which makes them suitable for gradual increase/decrease of effects. Overall its an easy to use MIDI, affordable and suitable for NEW musicians.

nothing professional about it

By Zak Stevens

Comments about Akai Professional MPK25 Keyboard USB MIDI Controller:

I purchased the mpk25 and returned it 2 hours later. The keys feel cheap and the overall quality of the device seems poor. I exchanged the mpk25 for the keylab 25 and I couldn't be happier. If you're a person who cares about the feel and construction of your device then think twice before buying this. However, its all based on your opinion and if you're okay with a devices that feels like it came for toys R us then by all means but it now

Great MIDI Controller

By John Gage

from Oklahoma City, OK

Comments about Akai Professional MPK25 Keyboard USB MIDI Controller:

I bought this controller about a year ago and I love it. For the price it's been a great beginners controller. It's fairly small and compact. The only down side to the controller when I bought it was when I tried to connect with Sonar X1 the process for creating the new MIDI controller is rather lengthy and still has complications. If you use one of the other programs that the MPK 25 has preloaded on it such as Abelton Live it works like a dream. Great little MIDI controller.

Exactly what I expected

By Brandon Martin

from Monroe, WA

Comments about Akai Professional MPK25 Keyboard USB MIDI Controller:

Wow, this was my first MIDI controller and I am blown away. I tried out others in the store, and none compared to the smoothness and feel of this one. Once I got it all setup, it was incredible. The keys feel great, the pitch wheel is smooth as butter, and the drum pads are extremely high quality (don't listen to the people saying they are stiff, you just have to press hard, it has a large range of sensitivity.) also, the software provided with it is pretty decent too. All in all, This controller did exactly what I expected it to do and more. For the price, its absoulety top of the line.

MPK25!!

By Vito

from Florida

Comments about Akai Professional MPK25 Keyboard USB MIDI Controller:

This is a very intuitive and durable keyboard/controller! Awesome specs live up to whatۡs described. Iۡve been enjoying this device for about 1 year and have little to complain about. If anything itۡs the pads that get a thumb down. Theyۡre not horrible but coming from experience with MPCs (Iۡm old school) they should definitely be designed better to uphold the AKAI branding. They are usable but you must set up your pads in global mode until they feel good enough. Iۡm use to them now and found good settings for me personally. For the amount of buttons, knobs, key, and pads I feel the size is just fine. I even travel with it once in a while. I use it a lot due to the fact itۡs at home with me. So when Iۡm not at the studio, I improvise and create music using this and a laptop. Itۡs a fun device so pick one up and Enjoyۡ_

Legit.

By Alex Walbrun

from Camp Pendleton California

Comments about Akai Professional MPK25 Keyboard USB MIDI Controller:

Bought this about a month ago. Great pick up for beginners and for artists who have been making music for a while. Works great with ableton. I spent an extra 100 bucks on installing the touch sensitive pads that i ordered from mpcstuff.com including the black and silver plated knobs. I'd recommend getting the touch sensitive pads, even though i didnt have a problem with the stock pads. Just makes it easier. I havent had any problems with it so far and its been great for what i want to do in making techno/ dubstep and electronic music through ableton. Honestly You cant beat the price for this product. Starting off making music or just in need of a good midi controller, this is probably the best one you can get for this price.

Rock Solid Plug-N-Play

By the rakemaker

from Independence, Missouri

Comments about Akai Professional MPK25 Keyboard USB MIDI Controller:

I've owned a lot of MIDI gear over the past 20 years and yes, I'm a MIDIOT. I purchased the MIDIAK Synth first (I highly recommend it.) and I liked it so well that I bought the MPK25 when I was looking for a small form-factor MIDI Controller. I am extremely pleased! I use Windows 7, Ableton Live 8, FL Studio 9, and Reason 5 and the Akai works flawlessly with all of them. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME with anything else! I've been there and back. This keybed already has the presets installed. All you do is dial in your software and push the enter button. Bang! How easy is that? And it is very well built. It's not some flimsy piece of plastic and the action is quite nice for the $$$. I also like having the DIN MIDI I/O's, too. Great job AKAI!
