The pads are assignable with two banks for a total of 32 pads plus a performance slider for hi-hat and other sample switching. By Jake Ro

Comments about Akai Professional MPD16 USB/MIDI Pad Controller:

this is a pretty good machine. very sensitive to touch although i cant get the slider to work with the pitch or watever. i recommend the mpd 16 to any producer just starting out to get the feel of placing your beats to the pads. very good starter tool

MPC pads for your computer

By Heez Magnif

from Washington DC

Comments about Akai Professional MPD16 USB/MIDI Pad Controller:

I use the MPD16 in combination with Fruity Loops and Ableton Live. Its more convenient to use than the MPC because i can just cut up some samples and make a beat straight from the computer. I don't have to import the samples over to the MPC. The only real issue i have with it is the latency issues, in that when i press the pad and when it gets recorded the timing is off. I have to go back in and place or quantize everything i just recorded. I'm connected through a USB cable but I've heard that if you're connected with MIDI the timing is either not or less of an issue. I personally do recommend this for beginning hip hop producers or anyone using samples because of how much easier it will make your workflow. Its a great piece of hardware at a great price, but no even with this and a fast computer I would never replace the MPC.

Poor Quality Synth

By Anonymous

Comments about Akai Professional MPD16 USB/MIDI Pad Controller:

The first Fusion I recieved had a short circuit from Day 1. I sent it back and recieved a replacement. The replacement not only had the short circuit, causing the lights to flicker, the LCD screen to go blank, and the sound to cut out, as well as a power-up problem in which the unit would begin powering up and would just shut down. The Fusion has some great features but what's the point if it's so poorly built that it doesn't work most of the time.

the akai mpd16, a good, price effective tool

By Geeb

from SanFrancisco, CA

Comments about Akai Professional MPD16 USB/MIDI Pad Controller:

I was very excited to buy the akai MPD16 for 100$ i felt that it was a very good value considering its uses. The Akai MPD16 plugs into your computer via usb or midi port, its very quick and simple process. I personally use this tools in connection with Fruity Loops studios 6, and immediatly it recognized the hardware and i was able to use it immediatly. The pads were very responsive, and they can be set to be super sensitive if you prefer not to hit the pads to hard.It is also very responsive and perfect for those who may be just getting into music producing but dont want to buy its more expensive father device(MPC), Over all this device was well worth its value and more.

Powerful when used with the right program

By Hamma

from Boston, MA

Comments about Akai Professional MPD16 USB/MIDI Pad Controller:

I currently use the MPD16 with fruityloops studio 6 and the FPC. The MPD16 can be connected via usb and/or MIDI. The MPD16 is very simple and user-friendly. It is very good for laying down drums. This is a better alternative to playing drums on your pc using keys. I would especially recommend this to HipHop and R&b producers. The MPD16 is a solid piece of equipment. I highly recommend it

This didn't work for me at all

By PlatinumRapper

from Los Angeles, CA

Comments about Akai Professional MPD16 USB/MIDI Pad Controller:

First off let me say that this is a very small piece of equipment, so if you're expecting something the size of an actual MPC (like me), than is not the model you're looking for. Second, If you plan on running this on a Mac OSX system...Than you're plans will surely change. No full driver support for OSX 10.4 or better unless your willing to reconfig your whole system to go backwards. Nothing but hassles for me. I suggest getting the MPD24 instead. Full driver support & presets for OSX, Reason & Pro Tools setups.
