Akai and Guitar Center are a FULL OF SH

By DJ Fuzzy

Comments about Akai Professional MPC Live:

Ordered my MPC Live no May 29th. So far I got 4 emails saying it's on back order, but the Guitar Center web site is saying " in stock, ready to ship ". I called Guitar Center last week and the salesman told me the AKAi rep was in the store the day before and told him that the MPC Live is not shipping until the end of the summer. So Guitar Center are a bunch of full of sh lier's. And so is Akai, because they've been lying about the 2.0 software for over a year

Comments about Akai Professional MPC Live:

I have nothing bad to say about it. As a user of MPC3000 and 2000XL Its been the best transition ever. and I have used Maschine and Ableton also . But this unit is so much fun and way faster to get into making music. Learning curve is a lot simpler.

Comments about Akai Professional MPC Live:

I'm loving the MPC Live. It's not my first MPC, and I've also used Ableton Live, Maschine, and an Octatrack. The MPC Live is a ton of fun and probably the most overall satisfying to use of all of these machines, despite a few issues and shortcomings with the first firmware.

Things I love: Keygroup programs which, combined with single cycle waves, can generate amazing synthesizer patches. The tape delay effect. It's rich and dirty at the same time. The pads, they're outstanding. The overall workflow - despite the omission of a few handy shortcuts (i.e. shift+pad combos) getting around is quite easy and fairly fluid.

What needs work: Make better use of the USB ports. I'd like to see sync over USB, if not full USB MIDI host functionality. Some add'l shortcuts to things like pad mute mode, etc. would be handy. And there's a handful of bugs - recording audio fails when the MPC Live is synced to an external MIDI clock, and it does error sometimes when shutting down. (after I've already saved things, of course.)

But hey, it's a 1.0 product, pretty good first effort and hopefully Akai will address the issues in future updates. Even if they didn't, I'd still be pretty happy with it.
