Availability:

This USB MIDI Keyboard Controller is fully loaded for studio and stage.

The Akai Professional MPK61 USB MIDI Keyboard Controller combines a piano-style keybed with a bank of genuine Akai Professional MPC pads, assignable Q-Link controllers and key technologies from the iconic MPC family of music production workstations.

Producers, performers and DJs appreciate the MPK61's mix of 61 semi-weighted keys with aftertouch, 16 MPC pads with velocity and pressure sensitivity, 72 assignable Q-Link controllers, MPC Note Repeat, MPC Swing and an arpeggiator. The MPK61's size is ideal for performers who need a larger keyboard than the original 49-key MPK49 offers, but also prefer the lighter weight and associated portability of a semi-weighted keyboard. The MPK61 retains the key split features from the MPK88, enabling you to divide the keyboard into two zones for performing with two different programs at once.

The MPK61 MIDI controller empowers you to create and manipulate melodic, harmonic and rhythmic content and inspires creative production with its arpeggiator, MPC Swing and MPC Note Repeat technologies.

The Akai MPK61 controller is bundled with Ableton Live Lite Akai Edition software, one of the most popular and powerful performance and production programs. Ableton Live Lite composes, records, remixes, and helps you improvise and edit musical ideas in a seamlessly. The MPK61 sends MIDI data over USB for plug-and-play performance with both Mac and PC computers. The Akai MPK61 works with virtually all MIDI recording, sequencing, and performance software for musical performers from keyboard players to producers to DJs and VJs.

  • Great board,but... is it defective?

As reviewed by Brandon on 1/22/2010

Great board with lots of interface capabilities.Has a great feel and unlike the MPK25 and MPK49 you can adjust the key-bed velocity sensitivity which is a feature that should be standard in the whole series.I have owned both the MPK25 and the MPK49, and the MPK61's pads do seem to have a better feel.BUT...and yes it is a big BUT.When you run the MPK61 off of USB and try to control midi hardware with it using the midi outs it will not operate unless you have a power supply connected.I could not get it to control both soft synth's and hardware at the same time running off of USB power. Not cool.Anyhow,as far as a control surface it is great, the key-bed is nowhere close to the quality of the Novation sl-61 MKII or the M-audio Axiom PRO.Build quality is solid though.Overall, a solid contender in the crowded controller market.

  • Read Chris' Review

As reviewed by Ryan Robinson on 11/4/2011

I've had the MPK61 for a few months now and felt the need to share my experience. Looking over the other reviews the one by Chris on 11/27/2010 is spot-on. I was really hoping to get comfortable with the keys, but they're just too "springy" and the stock pads are definitely lacking. The knobs, sliders, buttons and wheels feel great. Overall it's a decent keyboard, but you may want to spend the extra money on the MPK88 with the fully-weighted keys.

  • Great for "synths" not for "keys"

As reviewed by Zach Drake on 7/22/2011

I bought this as my primary keyboard for producing. I love the pads, knobs, sliders, and keys all being together in one machine. The pads are great but you have to get used to playing softly, but I got used to it and it helped me get a little more control over my playing anyway. When I am doing synths it is beyond perfect for both automating parameters and playing. The keys, however, are not good for playing "keyboard" instruments like piano or Rhodes. The action is stiff which is great for a fast synth solo but not good for playing with dynamics on a piano patch. I would HIGHLY recommend this for any producer, as long as you also have an 88 key with weighted keys to complement it for "keyboard". The parameter controls, pads, and keys are FANTASTIC for everything else.
