MPC Studio offers the most streamlined MPC experience yet. At under one-inch thin, with low-profile controls and a brushed aluminum body, it’s made to move. MPC Studio merges real MPC pads, iconic workflow, and the same MPC Software used by MPC Renaissance to give you a fully integrated portable production solution. Welcome to production anywhere. The world is now your studio.
MPC Studio Hardware The USB powered MPC Studio is a production powerhouse that was made to move around with ease. Now you can easily fuse the power of the MPC with the processing power of your laptop anywhere you wish to take it. The ultra compact design is less than 1” thick, making this unit able to neatly fit in most bags and cases with room to spare. There are 16 backlit genuine MPC style pads that give you the same legendary MPC workflow and MPX Swing. The overall design is sleek with low-profile knobs and an all aluminum body to protect the core components of the unit. The large LCD screen allows you to make tracks without the need to look at the computer screen, freeing you from constantly relying solely on your computer to produce music.
MPC Studio Software Akai’s exclusive MPC software makes the transition from the original box to your computer a breeze. 128-Track sequencing ability will provide you with plenty of options when cruising through the massive 6GB+ sound library, including all of the sounds from the original MPC3000. There’s instant mapping and real-time adjustment of VST plugins, and the ability to record each track as an MPC drum program, Keygroup program, or VST/AU program. The MPC Studio software supports WAV, MP3, AIFF, REX, and SND audio file types, as well as any samples and sequences from any MPC ever made. Use the software as a stand alone DAW or inside of your favorite workstation as a VST or AU plugin. The software is both Mac and PC compatible.

What can I say, the MPC has been my go-to music making machine for two decades....
I have had MPC's going back to the 2000xl and prior.
So is it worth all the Hype, this 'new' MPC setup?
Well, using it for two days, I can say, the portability and functionality of the software brings the MPC into the new millenia and after sitting down with the software...it is the familiar format and then some....
This thing absolutely rocks...it has taken the classic MPC workflow and actually made it easier (if you can imagine that possible but indeed, it HAS gotten even easier-many of the classic MPC 5000 functions are just turned into visual mouse clicks-such as time stretching and Patched Phrasing-won't go into detail but it is just a breeze to use this software and its timing is massively tight, just like all MPC's-Akai NAILED this software version on their first go around).
It has all the features of my 5000 save for it runs plugs internally, too and that just makes it your one stop go to production machine from start to completion (minus DAW mixdown, of course).
I will say installation was not without a few glitches as Version 1.1 crashed while scanning my Audio Units on my Macbook Pro running OSX 10.6.8 (32 bit). I upgraded to the just released 1.2 software and rescanned the audio units and everything went smoothly...and I am running a lot of plugs...so whew..wipe the sweat..
Lastly, the MPC Studio hardware is brushed aluminum and flat out classy. NO cheapo plastic anywhere on this two pound slimster and its machined and polished fascia is very diminuative yet powerful in that it has all the necesary MPC buttons you would expect...and the back lit pads and buttons are flat out useful and helpful, let alone visually appealing. I think the only thing they could have improved on the Studio was to have allowed the pleasantly lit blue screen to tilt back toward you like on the Ren or 5000 but I get around that by propping it up on a book and no worries.
All and all, I LOVE the new MPC and the software and feel it is worth every penny that I paid for it...
