i absolutely love these Ahead sticks. 5 stars easily. i got them in the mail about 2 days after i ordered them, too. the only thing about them is the weight. my forearms fatigue when i'm playing fast songs (like wipe-out), but other than that i love them. the plastic cover allows more of a wood-like sound but also harder hitting with protection of your cymbals and sticks. i reccomend these to everyone, except in a smaller size.
i typically play hickory rock sticks (.63"x16 5/8") because i mostly play loud music. i let my fingers and the weight of the stick do most of the work to avoid fatigue. my source of cheap bulk vic firth and vater cosmetic defect sticks dried up so i figured i'ld give these a try. these cost the same as 10 bulk sticks, so made the investment. i had to weight the bulk sticks with a digital scale to match a pair, and the weights ranged from 55 grams up to 79 grams depending on the density of the wood. i couldn't find any information online about the weight of these sticks, which made me concerned, but these come it at 78 grams each. on the heavy side of the stick spectrum, but they have a good balance and feel and don't get spongy or splintered like after playing a few sessions. so far they've held up. in the future i may get their standard size rock sticks. make sure you super glue the tips on as they recommend.
great drum sticks. I always liked the old aluminum and these are even better.
