  • I'm loving my new sound

As reviewed by WILLIAM on 1/5/2015

I started playing bass in 1965 with the standard equipment of the day; Fender Jazz Bass and Fender Bassman Blackface amp with a 2x12 cabinet. Over the years, I've tended to stay with 60's music and basically the same equipment brand. While I still play a Jazz bass and a Precision bass and have my lifelong preference for flat wound strings, I wanted to try a different amp and cab. I'd read great things about the Aguilar line but wasn't sure what cabinet to use with my new Tone Hammer 350 amp so I contacted Aguilar directly. Their advice was to use 2 12" speakers and their DB line. I decided to purchase a set of DB112 NT (no tweeter) cabinets, and I'm thoroughly enjoying every single note that I play through this equipment. I'm a very satisfied Aguilar customer.

I've reviewed my Tone Hammer 500 head an 1 of these cabs previously so I'm just adding to what I stated before. I used just 1 of the DB-112 cabs to do a concert warm-up for Daryle Singletary in Oklahoma 3 weeks ago. At first I was worried that it wouldn't be able to handle the job and I was going to be using it and my Mesa 115, well I woofed my woofer in it at about 10:30 the night before. So this was a bit of a forced situation to go with the DB-112 as a stand alone cab. After the first song the front-man asked if I would turn down a notch because I was a little to loud. We were doing mostly Country music which as you know is very tight and punchy. This cab played very clean at volumes loud enough to be heard at center stag about 20 feet away from a side angle to the cabinet. The sound Engineer which was maybe 40 feet in front of the stage told me during sound check he could hear me fine, and that I had excellent tone, and that was before he put me in the Mix! On the following Monday I went to GS and ordered a 2nd one, now I know I will be heard at just about show I play even without running through the console. If I had 10 thumbs they would all be up, but I don't so I'm left with only 2 thumbs up for this Speaker. You won't regret buying this Speaker!

  • Punch and Crunch

As reviewed by KELLY ILER on 1/26/2014

For years I've played through nothing but Mesa Boogie amps and cabs, thinking there was no other sound for my bass. The only problem was the amps began to fail me one after another, I needed a back up amp for those times when Mesa broke my heart. I purchased the Aggie Tone Hammer 500 head and ran it through my Mesa enclosures, but they were getting to heavy for me to handle on a regular basis. I ordered the SL112 enclosure but it didn't became available before I needed it. I changed my order to the DB 112 which Guitar Center happened to have (Only One in Stock) so I nabbed it. I must say I'm blown away by its tone or I should say tones. This speaker is incredible, I can get just about any type of bass reproduction I want, from clean and punchy to that ever so loved vintage sound with a little growl and bite "You Know" Even at 250 watts (half the TH500's power at 8 ohms) it can be ridiculously "LOUD" if that is what you like, but even at low volume levels this cab sounds BIG! When Paired with TH 500 head I believe I've found my new gigging rig. Now all I need to do is to get the model with out the tweeter for the bottom of stack to get the full 500 watts from the TH500 head and the beloved Boogie will be my back-up rig "Sorry Mesa, Thank You Aguilar and Guitar Center"
