The ADAM Audio ARTist 3 is their smallest and most compact monitor to date. The compact size of this monitor makes it perfectly suited for all environments where space is limited, but sound shouldn™t be constricted. The ARTist 3 combines minimal dimensions with acclaimed ADAM sound quality, using the X-ART tweeter for the higher frequencies, which guarantees crystal clear music reproduction. Countless studios around the globe are already using the X-ART technology in their ADAM monitors and treasure the precision and clarity these speakers offer.

A 4.5 (basket) driver handles the lower registers and a stiff, lightweight carbon fiber diaphragm delivers coloring-free sound. Two built-in 25W amplifiers power each of the drivers directly. The back offers two M6 screw threads for attaching a wall holder and a controller for fine-tuning the high frequency levels.

The ARTist 3 stereolink function, enables the control of the overall output level of both speakers through either one of the two volume knobs according to how they are connected. It redefines the more familiar master-slave-configuration because each speaker can be in control of the overall volume. This allows for an easier set-up and change of the set-up. Just connect the source to one speaker, and then this speaker to the second and the system is ready to go.

Both the ARTist 3 and ARTist 5 have no less than four different input sockets: RCA (Cinch), XLR, a 3.5 mm mini stereo jack and a USB port. This multitude of possible inputs allows the ARTist Series to connect to just about any analog or digital music source.

Sweet treble plus bass punch

By Paul Cragin

from Winter Park, FL

Comments about ADAM Audio ARTist 3 Powered Studio Monitor:

I use a pair of these in two ways: (1) near field desktop computer speakers via the USB input (and the Stereolink to the right speaker) with no subwoofer and (2) as critical listening speakers in a big, high-ceiling room with a subwoofer. They are heaven on the desktop, and with the lower angels with the sub. In the latter, in that room, they are a trifle underpowered when I'm seeking insanely loud rock-out volume, but don't disappoint at all for jazz or classical - even Telarc-deep-bass experiences (with the Velodyne, natch.) I appreciate the Velodyne's ability to filter out the subwoofer frequencies before sending the "main" signal on to the Artist-3. It means all the Artist 25-watts/driver get used for mid-tone or treble, and so they almost always keep up with what I want. The key reason to buy is the unique treble driver, which delivers tones that we describe as "smooth" or "sweet." Many people prefer "bite" or "sizzle," but I find that artificial, what you hear through PA systems and NOT what I hear when musicians are playing acoustically. If your brass or FX box delivers bite in your performance, that'll be heard from the Artist, but they don't add to it on their own. Thus they (and they alone, so far) match my Infinity Emit-R ribbon tweeter Modulus satellites. But the Artists deliver far better bass punch than the Infinity speakers, so much so that in near field listening I don't bother to hook up a Yamaha 6-inch powered woofer that I used to use at my desktop to supplement small bookshelf consumer speakers. Had one factory-defect (honest, not my fault) and I appreciated the Guitar Center's warranty: instead of shipping to repair and waiting forever, the local store took in my wounded one and immediately shipped out a new unit from distribution, just as fast as if I had bought new.
