Overview

The 450W Acoustic B450 Combo Bass Amplifier is equipped with 2 inputs—1 for passive and 1 for active pickups. Additionally, the B450 combo offers you input gain and output volume controls.

A clip indicator informs you when your signal is overdriving the preamp. Although with the harmonically rich distortion of the B450's preamp circuit, you definitely should try overdriving it. Add the bass combo amp's 6-band EQ and footswitch controlled notch filter into the mix, and you've got total tone control. The B450 bass amp's tuner Send signal, coupled with the footwitchable mute function, give you the capability of tuning your bass silently on stage.

The Acoustic B450 bass combo's rear panel offers an array of possibilities. The external speaker output enables connection to additional speaker cabinets (down to a 2 Ohm load) for earthshaking bottom, and increases the total output to 600W (2 Ohms).

The direct out with independent level control—which you can send pre or post EQ—is perfect for getting a solid DI signal to a console for live sound reinforcement or studio recording. The Acoustic 450W bass amp's effects loop with mix control allows you to work with line-level, studio-grade effects for advanced tone shaping. The Acoustic B450 is the perfect bass combo for high-volume club gigs and more.

Before this purchase, I've always been underwhelmed by bass combo amps. Not any more! This thing packs a whalloping punch! Power and versatile tone options in a small package. Tone controls that actually work for a change. Massive power, fan cooled. Keeps up with a loud drummer, does not need to be mic'ed in all but the largest venues. Effects loop is nice with it's wet/dry mix control, as is the direct out with level control. Add a cab and you've got 600 watts of powerful tone. Needs casters as I'm not getting any younger, but standard ones like the Ernie Balls fit perfectly into the factory cups. The folks at Acoustic were super fast to respond to my email inquiries. If it holds up, it will definitely be the deal of the century.

Picked up one of these units from the local GC. Like many of the other reviewers comments, really nice tone and good overall voicing. Tons of power, and a very effective EQ section that works well. Also has several other nice features like variable DI out, holes for casters, and support for extension cabinet (2 ohm capability). On the downside, cab is made of MDF and super heavy. Even worse, on the first use after playing for about 15 minutes at stage volume, the amp would start making horrible loud crackling noises in one of the 2 10" drivers. Next day same thing happened. Returned to GC the next day and had a brand new one shipped to my house. The 2nd one didn't have the crackling noise the 1st one did but any notes below A would cause the cabinet to rattle badly. It was obvious there was a loose panel or bracing somewhere. Brought this one back and decided to switch to another brand instead. Nice tone, great value, but needs better quality control.

Huge Power and Tone is a small package.

By DON HOWELL

from Pittsboro, Indiana

This is the best sounding combo out there, plenty of head-room for your bass, no distortion, and the variety of tones you can get is fantastic. I love this amp, have had zero problems since purchased in December 2011. I added an Acoustic B15 Neo and stack the combo on top of it, added Ernie Ball wheels to the Neo, and wow, what an impressive looking rig! More power than you will ever need for gigs, which is exactly what you want for bass. I have played through other bass rigs at blues jams, and there is no comparison, far exceeds the tone of Ampeg, Behringer, and even the Fender RumIble! There is no reason to buy the higher price, perhaps prestige giving brand names when this matches or even out performs them. No other brand has the quality tone you get from the B450.

DANG!

By Jon the Jolly Bass playing Jew

from Akron Ohio

As soon i got it out of the store i noticed it looked a lot bigger than when it was next to all of the 810s, but no problem. I took it home and the first thing i noticed is this amp is really powerful. So powerful it appears that the 210s can't contain all of it so im gonna get a a 410 cab and a 115 as well as the internal speaker because this amp can run down to a 2 Ohm load at 600w. So as of right now there is no need the turn the volume up past four. but the only complaint i have about this amp is the tweeter on mine makes an ever so slight hissing noise which is unnoticeable at a decent volume but at low volumes i just turn the tweeter off. As soon as i got this the sales clerk said that the caster holes are already built in and i got a pair of casters and it was worth it 100%. All in all this is a simple and amazing amp for people who want great tone and awesome power at a low cost but invest in casters and add another cab you will be glad you did. But as of right now I am glad I purchased it even better at off brand new but time will tell how it holds up. P.S. I highly recommend getting the pro coverage there are two openings on top of amp to let out heat and you can see straight to the mother board and one drop of rain, beer, monster, ect. its done. So at least get an amp cover unless the amp will never leave your house and drinks wont be within 10ft of it.

Ernie Ball Casters

By David

from Chicago

Just got the B450 combo. A/B'd it against all the combos in GC (spent about an hour and a half). Has great clean power to huge volume. 6 band EQ gives a ton of flexibility in tone. Can't get the GK sound, but I'm not really going for that - playing a wide variety of rock, 80's, old school funk. Back in the day a I had a big Acoustic head and "coffin" cabinet (2 15's) - loved that big monster. This has same great powerful Acoustic tone I remember and a bit more mid-high control with a couple smaller speakers. DUH moment: I bought Ernie Ball casters with the amp because it is pretty heavy (moveable, but why work so hard). The Ernie Ball pop-out casters fit right into the existing sockets. I thought I was going to have to remove the existing sockets and replace (since apparently no Acoustic casters). But, hello - the EB's are in a socket that is the same size (of course) and they pop right in. Smooth and solid - worth $20 to save the back.

Buy it

By Kevin Schuyler

from Minneapolis, MN

I just played on the mainstage at Crossfest in Lewiston tonight. First time using the amp live. Was a bit worried but I'll never give it a second thought again. All those years I lugged around separate components and cabinets. All I'll ever need is this rig on a tiltback stand. I played it like a monitor facing up at me. Small enough not to be too "in the way looking". I faced it sideways so the guys could hear me and the soundman loved the setup since I wasn't blowing out into his mix. When I got home I mis-counted the steps as I took it downstairs on a dolly with no strap (never again). The cabinet took a nose dive onto concrete. I plugged it right in and it's absolutely perfect. So much power it is not to be believed. Sweet tones. Get a dolly cuz it's HEAVY.

Great Amp

By Wayne

from Spartanburg, SC

After reviewing many amps, for price, sound quality and reliability, I decided on this combo amp. Here's why : First, I chose Acoustic for the price and great tone. It had most of the options the higher end amps offered like, direct out with vol. control, effects loop, toner loop, mute fuction, notch filter and a 6 band EQ, plus 450w or 600w in parallel with an optional cab. This is the part that may help you decide as well. I can run this cab alone for smaller venues, or add my 115 cab for larger. With the 600w head you almost have to run either the 8x10 cab, or a 4x10 and a 1x15 because of the high wattage. So the fact you can use this smaller cab alone helped me decide. I am more interested in the Mids and Lows, so adding the 115 cab really made some great lows with some great sounding Mids mixed in. So far I am very pleased with my purchase. It sounds great so far !

Everything you need in an amp

By Dillon

from DFW, TX

I must say that this amp is one thing above all others, LOUD!!!!!!! 450 watts in its standard configuration, and when you add another cab it goes up to 600 watts!!!! I pair it with the B115 cab by Acoustic, and it is plenty of power for the 30 horn big-band I play with at my University. The only complaint that I have other than the weight of this monster, is the quality control. My "new" one came out of the box with a defective plug and a blown input. But the great guys at GC took care of me and got it all taken care of. Btw, I've played solid-body, hollow body, single coil, humbucker, and up-right through this thing and it sounds great for all. Only thing you need other than a bass is a multi-fx pedal and you're good to go for anything.

Much to my Surprise

By Stephen

from birmingham, AL

This cab was making noise every time I hit a low Eb & or in that range sounds like a screw was loose.. Took it back got another one. My main bass is a Tobias 5 string with Elixir nano coated strings."bright but my bass is naturally beefy". If you want a Cab that will reproduce exactly what ur bass sounds like, then this is it then its loud for 2x10s nice bottom end "EQ actually works" you can add a 15" to it just plug it in the back and boom Cons: you cant sit on top because the cooling fans are on top

The Thunderer!!!

By Joe Vreeland

from Anza, CA

If you want power AND quality tone for a reasonable price - then this is it. It has great equalizer and notching, plus a decent standby switch that is foot-switchable. A little heavy, but that's a good thing. Too bad it doesn't come with some wheels, but the holes are there for them at least. This is definitely a 7 on the Richter Scale. PS: You've got a really good talent there in your salesman too.
