Acoustic B300H

By William Pawley

from Leesburg, Georgia

Comments about Acoustic B300H 300W Bass Amp Head:

I bought this head at Guitar Center, Tallahassee, Fl. I was looking for a mid-power, low cost amp for my Bass and I found it in this amp. I play a Sterling (by Musicman) Ray 35 through it into a 2X10 cabinet and a 1X15 cabinet (both Peavey's) at a place my band usually plays every week. So far, this B300H has proved to be very dependable. It's been a workhorse as it gets used not only for my band but for an "O"pen Mic Night. Every other Bass player that has used it has been impressed at how good it sounds and also by how versatile on tone it is. The "Notch" filter has come in very handy while setting tones with different Bass guitars and players. Most use active pickups and the -10db pad comes in real handy there also. While it is only a 300 watt amp, it sounds a great deal more powerful than that. It's perfect for playing small to medium venues and the DI output is great for playing larger venues to pump the Bass through the FOH PA system. The Compression LED catches peoples attention watching the stage. It flashes, people notice it and wonder if the amp is going to blow up, I just have to chuckle about it and say no, it just shows the signal is being compressed. Most of the time though, I turn it off. On a side note, one night before playing, I plugged an Acoustic-Electric guitar into it just to see what it would sound like. I was surprised that it gave the guitar a good "acoustic" sound and not just another plugged in Acoustic-Electric sound. So, now occasionally, when there is a solo acoustic player, I will plug him into my amp instead of just running him/her straight to the PA as we usually would do. I'm pleased with my Acoustic B300H. It's powerful enough for what I use it for and it is versatile. Yes, I would recommend it.

Old School Rules with new Style

Comments about Acoustic B300H 300W Bass Amp Head:

Looks of an older setup but with modern features that make this amp versatile for many different applications. I really like the looks of this amp and all the care that went into it. I have it paired with the Acoustic B410mkII 4x10 & the Acoustic B115mkII 1x15. And it is a beauty no doubt. I like it so much I plan on buying the same setup again. I just love the style of this Acoustic Brand and it sounds amazing. I know there are some haters out there who disapprove of Acoustic, but as for me. It works! Plan on staying with them.

Good Clean Sound

Comments about Acoustic B300H 300W Bass Amp Head:

I got this amp head to replace the Acoustic B200H I had, because I needed more power, but not a gazillion watts. The other amp was great, but I just needed to upgrade in preparation for a new bass that will be tuned in the contra-contra-bass range, from low C# up to D (3rd string on a standard 4-string bass) without rattling the speakers and taxing the amp. I also upgraded my B115 cab to a B115mkII cab with higher wattage capacity. I already have the B410 I want and need. This new amp also has several features the other on didn't have - compression, notch filter and overdrive. I'd like the overdrive to be grittier, but I have pedals for that. I have a good, clear and clean sound in all ranges and a great range of tone for every type of music I play, and it can hold its own very well in the venues I play. It fills up the speakers much better, too, which makes them sound better. I am very pleased with this amp. I got excellent value for my $$$, and it proves that you don't necessarily have to shell out lotsa $,$$$ to get good sound and quality.

It looks great. Sounds good except for the lower register (E, F, G). With even the slightest boost it distorts. Not real happy with the sound.

Comments about Acoustic B300H 300W Bass Amp Head:

After being out of the music world for a while, I bought this amp head along with the Acoustic 4x10 and 1x15 cabinets when I wanted get back into playing. I was really surprised at how good it sounded with all my basses. Everyone I play with immediately notices my tone and compliments my rig. I occasionally think I might want to move up to the B800H, but I don't think I'd actually even need it. I currently play with two other guitarists using Marshall stacks and I sill come through loud and clear at about 2/3 volume. I've literally never once been in a situation where I thought to myself "I can't hear myself over the guitars, I wish this amp was louder." And if I'm playing at a large enough venue to require more volume, I just DI into the PA anyway, so really this amp does everything I need it to. It's never given me any problems whatsoever. Like others have said, it's a solid, reliable, great sounding workhorse of an amp at a great price. I know companies like Ampeg and Fender make a better overall product for sure. But until I'm gigging regularly at a pro level, this covers all my bases and then some. I was pleasantly surprised I could get this good of a sound, and such a high volume at this price point. It punches well above it's weight.

Comments about Acoustic B300H 300W Bass Amp Head:

Ordered this online and thought I was getting a brand new unit from another GC store (no mention was made that it was used). The input jack was broken off, half the chassis screws were missing, and of course, it didn't work. Returned it to my local store and received a refund on my GC card no problem, and they took care of the shippping.

      B300H

Comments about Acoustic B300H 300W Bass Amp Head:

Been retired since '96... Started playing again recently... 80s-90s rock...needed an amp. Bought the Amp and a 4x10 Acoustic cab. Was concerned after playing it some that it wouldn't be heard over "Bam-Bam". Added a 15" cab to it, releasing 300 watts and it was a different animal. I love the tone I get with my Jazz and this amp configuration. We DI everything, so mostly concerned with stage mix. Love this amp... But to really love it, you need two cabinets. Band mates are flipping over my tone. Thanks Miguel at Little Rock store. Where are my casters and covers?? :-)
