      Acoustic B200H 200w Bass Head (482904)
Availability:

A seriously powerful amp for serious bassists.

The Acoustic B200H professional head is designed for large club and live applications where it will fill any stage with depth and definition. Used in conjunction with the B115 and/or B410 enclosures, the B200H will easily drive either one or two cabinets in any combination of your choice.

The two bass inputs are designed to accommodate both active and passive bass instruments while the Gain and Volume controls give you complete control over the character of your tone. Increase the gain for some old school rock tones, or lower it and turn up the volume for great clean, classic or funk tones. The preamp includes a very natural and tube-like compression as well as a harmonically rich distortion circuit, which keeps your tone musical—even at high volume levels. The B200H also includes a notch filter to tailor your mids, and a six-band EQ for exact control over every nuance of your bass's tone.

Rear panel features include a parallel Effects Loop, and XLR balanced Line Out with Level Control and Ground Lift. The two speaker output jacks allow you to directly connect to each enclosure (such as the B115 and/or B410) to maximize your tone and power.

The heritage of Acoustic comes through loud and clear in the B200H—a seriously professional stage head for serious bassists.

  • Awesome

As reviewed by Taylor on 2/13/2010

I bought this head a few months ago and paired it with the 410 and 115 that are both made for it. When it comes down to comparisons...it rocks! I've played a Fender Bassman, assorted Peavey amps, a GK Backline 600, and an Solid State Ampeg who's model name is eluding me. Out of all of them I honestly think this is the best amp I've played. I play a 6 string through this sucker and the 6 band EQ and frequency notch filter give me the much desired full frequency control; there are no frequencies that just "disappear" when i get to a certain note. I personally kinda like solid states for bass; i like the fact that it will sound the exact same every time, although I more than likely will get a tube preamp for it eventually, just to warm the tone up (or, if acoustic ever released a hybrid big brother of this and the b600h, I would get that). Loudness, this amp definitely manages to hold its own. My guitarists have a Peavey XXX, and a Marshall JCM 900, respectively, and my drummer has the loudest cymbals on the face of the planet(he's not gentle with them either!), and its not uncommon that I'm the one that needs turning down; I don't think i ever get past 11 o'clock on the volume knob. I personally LOVE the tone and clarity that this amp provides. Every note is completely distinctive, and there is no buzz. The tone is rich and smooth, and i have plenty of hi end sparkle to make it cut through the mix. When it comes to downsides, I can really only think of 2 major ones and 1 that's just kind of a nuisance. First of all, it doesn't have a tuner output, which is a bit lame if i wanted to get a rack mount tuner for my rig. However, I am aware that the big brother of this amp, the b600h, has one. Odd I know. The next thing is that it isn't rack mountable. This means that to make a rack I'll either need to make it a carriage or keep it separate, neither which really appeal to me. The one nuisance is the fact that it doesn't have a mute switch on it. I play with active pickups, which means that when I'm not actually playing i unplug it so i don't go through batteries like no other, but I have to turn off the amp every time i do this instead of just muting it. Oh well, life goes on, 5 seconds of my life wasted. Enough ranting though, all in all this is a great amp. It's not over priced and undervalued. Made in china but designed in USA and that's the important part; you could teach a monkey to put the parts together, what matters is the brains behind it. I highly recommend to anyone looking to upgrade to a stack without burning their wallet or someone simply wanting to try something different. 5 stars.

  • This is a real amp

As reviewed by Tim Otey on 12/6/2010

This is the amp I have been looking for. I have owned most of the other brands in my 35+ years as a working musician. Ampeg, Fender, SWR, ect. Those amps are designed to sound the way the amp company thinks a bass amp should sound. They also only sound "good" with the cabinet(s) they were designed for. This is different, it has been designed to be a workhorse universal amp. It is reliable, light, and sounds great. It can be as clean as an SWR or you can crank up the preamp and it reminds me of my 79 SVT. The EQ points are right where they should be and the notch control can dial in a room in a second. I have used this with (2) 4-10 cabs for large shows, a single 4-10, a 2-10, even a 1-12 for dinner clubs. If you are looking for an amp to produce "your" sound and not the manufactures sound, buy it. If you still can't get the sound you are looking for, it's time for a different bass.

  • Great sound but not reliable

As reviewed by John on 3/12/2010

Bought the Acoustic B200H head and 1 B115 cabinet from Guitar Center. This Rig sounded Great! Was able to achieve awesome tone. However, After 6 months of playing twice a week at our church the head fizzled out and died.Guitar Center was great and offered to replace it.I decided to upgrade to the 600 watt head and plugged in at the showroom to try it out.It was dead and would not power up on the showroom floor.Great sound, just not reliable. Ended up buying a Fender.
