New for Ableton Suite 8 Education Edition
World-class Sample Library
Ableton Suite 8's library is something big and something new, completely surpassing everything that Ableton has ever offered before. With the creative professional in mind, Ableton has put together a well-balanced and comprehensive tool set, including synthesis, real-world "Sound Objects," presets, grooves, templates and, above all, a wide-ranging set of beautiful sounds. Ableton has worked with some of the world's top sound designers to create a comprehensive set of truly useful, high-end sounds, each one an instrument in its own right, for a total of 1,600 expressive sounds that are new to the line. The sounds are provided as instrument Racks with a finely calibrated combination of instruments and effects.
No need to be quiet in this library.
Collision is a unique instrument for authentic mallet sounds and creative percussion. Co-developed with AAS, it uses physical modeling technology to reproduce real-world instruments such as xylophones, marimbas, and glockenspiels, but also provides enough depth to create truly dramatic new instruments and sounds.
Latin Percussion is a collection of acoustic percussion instruments such as congas, bongos, timbales, claves, shakers, tambourines, and bells from the worlds of Brazilian, Afro-Cuban, and African music. It also comes with clips and grooves, so you don't just get the drums, you also get the drummer.
More Operator, more power
Operator, Ableton's renowned do-it-all synthesizer, has been given a major overhaul. Ableton opened up the hood, took a long hard look inside and did some serious hot-rod stuff. New filter types, more modulation routing options, and additive wavetable synthesis with drawable partials make Operator more powerful and flexible than ever.
One of the ways Ableton Live 8 software is an advantage to you, for students in the classroom as well as musicians performing live, is its two main views which allow you to do all your work within a single application. The Session View is essentially a musical scratch pad. You can work out new ideas and improvise in a free and easy environment. Each cell in the Session View grid can hold a recording, MIDI file, or any other musical idea, whether they're recorded on the spot or dragged in from the browser. Then you can play your ideas in any order or any time you wish. The Arrangement View takes a more traditional, timeline-based approach to multitrack recording, MIDI sequencing, and other music production tasks. It will record all your actions as you improvise in the Session View, allowing you to edit them whenever you like. Either view you use is simple and basic enough to make your tasks simple and efficient, which is especially useful during a live performance. This makes it a perfect tool for studios, beat creators, DJs, sound designers, and anyone who wants to make music in a fun and easy way.
Version 8 enhances the Ableton vision of creative, real-time digital music with a wealth of new techniques, effects and most-wanted workflow improvements
New groove engine
Groove patterns can add life and swing to straight sequences. Live 8's new groove engine lets you apply groove patterns in real time, extract grooves from audio or MIDI sources, and quantize audio and MIDI in real time. It also comes with a new groove library.
New warping engine
Live 8 introduces a new, more direct way of working with warping and some important Warp Mode enhancements. You can now warp audio events by adjusting the events themselves on the timeline. Beats Mode has been updated, and there's a completely new Complex Warp Mode. Plus, you can slice audio files to MIDI tracks based on transients.
A much-requested feature, the Ableton Looper effect gives you classic sound-on-sound looping without the limitations of a hardware device. Looper is set up for remote operation, so you can record, overdub, undo, and more without touching the computer.
Live 8 includes five powerful new effects: Vocoder, Multiband Dynamics, Overdrive, Limiter, and Frequency Shifter. These effects cover all the well-known aspects of these devices, but really shine due to some innovative features and enhancements from the Ableton labs.

Ableton has done it again! Each edition just keeps getting better than the last. This product is great for beginners and is very easy to learn. I've never used a program with such a user friendly tutorial. I highly recommend this to any audio engineer!
I am a college student studying to be a recording engineer. I recently bought this product and it made my live performance easier. the interface make it easy to use. I also use this software for my mixing and mastering for the school jazz band.I prefer this over pro-tools since it can do more then track, mix and edit.
Ableton is a diverse piece of software because it can be used to dj as well as produce. It allows you to combine loops to create something unique and all with the software effects that it comes with, you will get the sound you want.I have been using it for years and find it amazing for live gigs where you create on the fly!
Teachers and students alike, the search stops here! Please listen to me when I say this, literally everything feels in place, one click away. The fact that you also have an integrated how-to tutorial puts doubt to sleep. Never again will you feel the need to take months of classes(just to record? come on folks, get with it!) Ableton Live features infinite audio and midi tracks so you can finally release your complexd thoughts, and awesome audo quality! New at recording? Ableton Live will guide you through every little detail, and it is so easy to add expansions(drum kits, instrument samples) and can be utilized with any sort of hardware! Please do yourself a favor and take advantage of ableton and the education version, I did!
I recently finished a semester at college which included an introduction to Live and Reason. Having used Protools before, I found Live a really great program to help original songwriters structure their songs. You get rid of the linear concept and start piecing together "clips" that you can trigger and experiment with the song. The sound library in Live is excellent. You can actually "perform" Live with Live ! it gives you the flexibility to be spontaneous, whilst still being able to record in traditional linear fashion.
There's a manual that's included but i went strait to playing with all the cool features ableton comes with like, impulse (for making beats) and all the different effects that are available to use. I'm waiting for "the Bridge" the marriage between Ableton and Serato Scratch Live.
Hands down the best music production software ever made. You can do anything and make any sound!!! It takes a few days to get used to how it works but after that expect alot of time warping on ableton!! There are alot of new features since #7
I've been using Ableton Suite for at least a year now, and I could not have gotten very far in terms of music and promotion if it wasn't for this software! Sampling sounds couldn't be easier with sampler and simpler; both very useful tools included in any version of live past the INTRO version. Synths sound phenomenal and don't wimp out on advanced controls, which allows for manipulation of ANY sound a synth makes. Truly the best an electronic music producer can ever get. I felt as if I moved tiers since upgrading from GarageBand, and even some competitors like FL studio and ProTools (although, that's a very good linear music editor). Buy it! You'll never regret getting so many useful tools in one reliable package!
Ableton is an awesome program with a lot of raw power. It works great for those dj's who want to perform live. Also for those out there in the theatre or television business who run recorded sound, can easily produce great quality sound.
Abelton Live is a necessity for every recording artist! Ive owned this for about 1 year now and I absolutely love it. I use it with a Tascam 122L and I have used guitars, Bass, Keyboards, Synthesizers and vocals through this program. It is very easy to use and is also very versatile. I learned to use this in about 2 hours and have done numerous recordings with it. Also you can do stuff like identify each beat and note and change almost anything that you record and or create using this. It comes with a few VSTI plug-ins and connects itself to different programs. I personally use it with Virtual DJ and Vocaloid. If you have some money and are looking to go into a great and easy to use program, this is were its at! You will not be disappointed with what this has to offer.
