Akai APC40 controller
The Akai APC40 Ableton Performance Controller is designed to be a powerful, intuitive controller for electronic-music performance artists, DJs, hip-hop producers and traditional musicians using Ableton Live on stage and in the studio.
The APC40 talks directly to Ableton Live and Live talks directly to the APC40. This exclusive bidirectional communication makes the Akai Professional APC40 an advanced controller that receives feedback from the software and displays it on its clip matrix of 40 triggers, and on LED rings surrounding each knob. The clip matrix gives you an instant view of clip status: what's loaded, what's playing, and what's being recorded. Each state displays on the matrix in a different color so you quickly get a picture of clip state. Shift your clip focus and get an overview of the clips you have loaded for your set.
The Akai APC40 controller has 16 knobs, each surrounded by a ring of LEDs. These LED rings indicate the currently selected parameters' values, and make seeing your settings on dark stages a breeze. The APC40 controller's advanced visual feedback focuses your performing with focused more on the music and less on squinting at the computer screen. In fact, you might even forget that the computer is there.
Ableton selected Akai Professional as a partner because of its leadership position in great-feeling controllers that are rock solid, rugged, and precise. From the legendary MPC series that changed the way music is made to the industry-standard MPD and MPK controllers, Akai Professional is revered by musicians, DJs, and producers everywhere for creating the feel that powers their creativity. The APC40 is built with a rugged, metal chassis and slip-proof rubber detailing. Knobs and faders are solid and precise for pinpoint performance. It even features a high quality, replaceable crossfader.
The Akai APC40 controller comes with a special edition of Ableton Live Lite so you can use it out of the box even if you're new to Live. There's also a free patch that upgrades full versions of Live so if you're already a Live user, you can take full advantage of the APC40.
The APC40 has two banks of eight knobs. The first set controls Global parameters so you'll always have instant access to your main sends, pans, and other essentials. The second bank of eight knobs is dynamically reassigned to the Track you select. You can control eight track parameters at a time, and as you switch channels, the Track knobs follow your focus. You also get special clip-status views and feedback that only the APC40's matrix can display. The matrix is not limited to only 40 clips: you can scroll and shift, enabling access to an unlimited number of cells.
The APC40 has a wide range of controllers. The eight Global knobs can access four banks of controls; the eight Track knobs control nine different track parameters each. This gives you a massive total of 72 controllers that are dynamically reassigned. Channel faders, bus faders, and a crossfader give you smooth control of key values. You have even more control power with special controls including Tap Tempo, Tempo Nudge, record enables, solo/cues and two assignable footswitch inputs.
SUGAR BYTES Unique
The Unique synthesizer specializes in state-of-the-art vowel sounds and mighty, mighty analog keyboard sounds. With Unique, it takes just a right click on a control and complex parameter rides with internal and external controllers become a joyride.
The source of the Unique' truly distinctive sounds are its direct and powerful sounding oscillators. The Triple Saw and the Triple FM algorithms cover such a wide range of sounds. The noise oscillator with built-in filter can be used in a tonal mode, the right choice for the vowel filter.
Filters and their modulators
The actual intention behind this project also became its outstanding feature: the Vowel Filter mode. The oscillator sound can be transformed to vowel formants in many different ways. The juicy filters can also be used in classic mode, so Unique is fitted for standard situations as well. Each of the five filters (with internal analog signal processing) again has five individual modulators for creating outstanding Vowel and Filter movements. The modulators can be triggered in many different ways: for example with the lowest note played, the first note played or even with the sequencer clock or the arpeggiator. Yet another stunning Unique feature: The internal LFO´s have fade algorithms for rate and intensity.
Controllers and Effects
The internal controllers section contains a recordable XY field and is very easy to manage with just a right click on any control. Feedbacks go from the Controllers section rocks!™ to the Controllers section just blows me away!™ The effects section contains two chained multi effects, each of them with six effect algorithms. Effectrix from SUGAR BYTES is a plug-in effect that offers instant gratification for track manipulation. With just a few clicks you can tweak drum loops, create new rhythms, reverse parts, stretch others, apply delays, and even create abstract melodies with atonal material. With 14 different available effects to choose from; X-loop, loop, scratchloop, reverse, stretch, vinyl, tonal delay, stutter, crush, filter, phaser, chorus, delay, and reverb; you can think up with countless combinations, or even run them all at once! And with a step sequencer provided for each individual effect, you can choose just where and when each effect will be active over a 32-step sequence.
Use innovative looping effects that not only loop passages in realtime, they also can be scratched, stretched, reversed or modulated in loop size and pitch. Effectrix also gives you two advanced scratching effects for placing scratches exactly where they belong in your arrangement. Use the Scratch Looper / Vinyl Effect to scratch your tracks at any time, using different methods and the advanced possibilities that open up using the modulation tracks. The Scratch Looper gives you advanced in-depth controls to create stunning scratches. Effectrix also has the ability to be controlled via MIDI for incredible performance abilities. Stun your audience with grooving sounds and breaks, which needed hours of editing in the past. If you use Effectrix in "Run on MIDI note" mode, the effect sequences will only be played when you hit a MIDI note. That way you can modify your live audio and introduce exciting breaks at any time.

The team at Image Line is known for making some incredible music production software for computer based studios, and they™ve improved upon their amazing line of Toxic Software Synthesizers. Toxic Biohazard is the 4th generation in that line, and is loaded with the best, and most incredible features of the previous 3 versions, plus lethal enhancements like an optimized sound engine, œphysical envelopes that have real life modeling of sounds with real world decay and resonance, and a pack of new effects like reverb, phaser and more. Toxic Biohazard features a hybrid synthesis engine, combining the best of FM and Subtractive synthesis. With the addition of a warm, analog-modelled filter and set of built-in effects, the Toxic concept remains one of convenience, simplicity, and superb sound quality.
THE FM TECHNOLOGY
Thanks to high-resolution DSP processing, the Frequency Modulation engine produces sound with an extremely low noise threshold; something that most FM engines cannot offer. The Toxic Biohazard sound was built from the ground up, from unique mathematical calculations and analog-modeling techniques.
Completely alias free, and well tuned for all sampling rates, they produce a rich, "fat" sound all across the spectrum. Due to the high quality of the anti-aliasing process, you will not encounter the shredding noise on high frequencies that has plagued FM synthesis in the past. Furthermore, the oscillators are calculated at extremely high speeds, keeping your CPU usage to a minimum. Toxic' low CPU consumption gives you plenty of room for external processing and running multiple instances. The oscillators also come equipped with Maxx Claster' own powerful spectrum analysis technology. This allows you to create your own waveforms, via the simple process of loading a WAV or AIFF format sound file. All of these features make the oscillators very flexible, and allow for use of both synthetic and acoustic waveforms within Toxic. Each oscillator also comes with 32 built in ˜classic™ waveforms, each shown to be the most useful in FM synthesis.
Made to assure high quality and flexibility are built into the synthesizer itself, Toxic Biohazard aims to reduce the need for external processing altogether. The effect modules are designed to give the user access to several types of effects, from aggressive, tube-like distortion, to warm stereo delay, reverb, flanger, and phaser effects. With Image Line' own pro-quality tape delay emulation, based on non-fixed delay buffer sizes, instead of the usual methods incorporated within digital delays, this delay line gives you warm sound, with œtrue feedback and modulation. Lastly, the signal chain features an analog-modeled, parametric equalizer to further shape your sound. The EQ provides access to crisp, clear high-end definition, creamy mid ranges and earth-shaking low-end frequencies. The Toxic Biohazard effect module expands its palette of sound to include everything from dark, atmospheric textures to razor sharp leads, fit to slice easily through any mix.
Maxx Claster's own analog-modeled, multimode filter is reminiscent of a certain silver box of old. Garnishing a warm, resonant Low-Pass mode, a smooth Band-Pass setting, and a creamy High-Pass mode, Toxic Biohazard gives a wealth of control over tone. The filter is further enhanced by modulation via a dedicated envelope generator and low frequency oscillator, as well as responding to velocity information and keyboard tracking. These features allow for extreme sound shaping, as well as subtle nuances attributed to dynamic playing.
Powerful, yet simple, the sequencer offers a total of 64 steps, which can be divided into two independent, 32 step modules to allow double-polyphonic patterns. Using Image Line' "Smart Sequencer" technology, when a chord is played, the module defines that chord, and tunes the pattern accordingly. The sequencer also allows for pure playback of the programmed sequence from single notes. Simply holding one chord can virtually create an arrangement for you.
