The ART USB Dual Pre is ideal for laptop-based audio production. It's powered by an internal 9-volt battery, your computer's USB bus, or an optional 12-volt DC adapter. The rugged aluminum chassis with rubber sides handles road abuse.
The ART USB Dual Pre has two low-noise input channels with XLR balanced and 1/4" TRS inputs, each with up to 48dB of clean gain and clip LED indicators. With it's low noise 48-volt phantom power supply you can power up to two mics as well as the preamp when running off any of the power sources. The 1/4" outputs are buffered and low impedance balanced for use as either preamplifier outputs or feeds for powered monitors. A rear 1/8" TRS mini headphone jack with level and monitor controls provides latency-free monitoring of inputs during recording or the USB bus during playback. Fully compliant with the USB 1.1 specification, this compact device uses USB adaptive mode for playback and USB asynchronous mode for recording.

This product is the best thing since sliced bread for DSLR shooters looking to hook up a XLR condenser mic to your camera. I power mine with a rechargable 9 volt battery and use the phantom power on my Rode M3 (yeah, I bought it at guitarcenter). The end result is clean sound. It would be great if there was a compressor/limiter built-in. You're going to have to build a rig to fit all the hardware on.
There are also two Monster cables to hook everything together...sweet.
Bass tone sounds awesome with the pre-amp! Acoustic sounds good too, yet was hoping the stereo inputs could be split to 2 tracks. Could be I just don't have a good music program on my computer. Sometimes the signal's fuzzy, but if I shut down the recording program & reload it, seems to work for a while. Not recommended to use the USB power alone. Much more reliable with the power adapter.
I purchased this about 2 days ago. When you plug it in it automatically downloads all the drivers and stuff.
I am using mixcraft 5 for recording. and when I try to plug in my mic and my guitar(it has an xlr output), I can only get sound out of the left side. for instance if I have my mic plugged in to the left side and my guitar in the right, I can only hear my mic, and vice versa. I do not know if this is just a settings problem with mixcraft or what. Also I hear a lot of white noise in the background. there are so many factors for that so it could be anything. So until I find out how to fix my problems, Im giving it 3 stars. But don't get me wrong, It sounds great! I just wish I knew how to get the right side working on my program!
