  • Works for me

As reviewed by David on 9/16/2014

To be clear, I am running this through inexpensive Class D amps, a Rumble 150 combo and a Rumble 500 head. It does just what I ask of it, warm up that dry solid state tone a little bit and gives me a good boost on my passive Fender basses. If you have big expensive tube amps or active pickup on your guitar, don't expect noticeable change. My only real criticism is the power supply; the very similar 2 channel rack version uses an IEEC cord and has a transformer on board. This pre-amp has a proprietary wall wart that produces 9 volts AC instead of the usual 9 volts DC that most pedals use. I do not want to know what happens if I get then switched (I am thinking about painting the ART unit red!)' Other that that, it is a well priced easy to use unit that does exactly what I needed from it.

  • Not what I was looking for...

As reviewed by cdbrown on 6/7/2010

First of all, I really just bought this to use as a phantom power unit for a condenser mic. With that said, this thing was way too noisy to use with a microphone. There was a loud hum on my recordings and I found similar problems all over the internet (that's what i get for researching after I bought it). Anyway, I tried using it as a preamp for my bass and it warmed up the sound very little. I opened it up thinking I could swap a tube and improve the sound, but the electronics were all very cheap. Needless to say, I returned this and spent my money more effectively.
