Availability:

Phenomenal performance at a petite price.

The ART TPS II 2-Channel Variable Impedance Tube Preamp is coupled with ART's proprietary V3 (Variable Valve Voicing) functionality to deliver tremendous versatility. It features variable input impedance which allows users to dial in and match any microphone type from large condensers to ribbon mics.

Like its predecessor, the DPS, the newly improved V3 feature provides optimized reference points to begin the recording process for guitars, bass guitars, synths, acoustic instruments, percussion, vocals, and more. Unique to its class, the TPS II provides level monitoring with 2 analog meters as well as 2 newly added input monitoring LED meters. High-Z instruments or balanced microphone signals are input through front and rear panel jacks.

This newly enhanced TPS II can accept +20dB peaks while maintaining over 120dB dynamic range, quiet performance, and incredibly low distortion.

ART's legendary tube stage delivers classic warm sound and adds additional tube voicing specifically tailored to vocal, guitar, bass, and acoustic instruments, making it an incredible DI box. OPL (Output Protection Limiting) controls overshoots and normalizes levels before clipping occurs.

The TPS II was conceived, designed, and manufactured to the highest standards to provide years of quiet, reliable performance. Audition one and you too will know why the TPS II is among the most cost-effective professional mic preamp system you'll find on the market today.

  • Works great!!

As reviewed by John Cowperthwaite on 12/9/2013

Nice little tube preamp. You get more than what you pay for, and this little amp is worth it. It really improves the sound of vocals, and acoustic guitar (in my case). I use this to play live in my studio with vocals, and acoustic guitar with my recorded tracks. After searching, buying, returning, exchanging, etc. I finally got a combo that works really well for me. I sing into a Telefunken M80 into this preamp, into my Allen and Heath Zed60 ten effects,(bypassing it's preamp,by running the 1/4" line out of the ART into the Allen Heath and turning the preamp on the Allen and Heath all the way down). Into two Mackie MR8 mk3's. I had the JBL LSR 3's,but they were too muffled for that live sound I wanted. If you are just using this for recording, the choice in speakers is yours. I tried the Tannoys (great recording playback), the JBLs,(also great recording playback, but somewhat muffled with the built in compressor) and the Mackies(who were suggested by G.C.) which surprised me with their crisp clear live, and recording playback sound. I am finally done, and really happy with everything I finally got.

  • GREAT VALUE

As reviewed by William Marion on 5/25/2012

This is a fantastic value for those on a low budget, but need something to improve their recordings. This will do the job until you can move up in value. I have a small studio, and due to the thousands of dollars I already have in it (including guitars, amps, etc). While it would be great to purchase one much better than this, the money is not there to do so. However, the quality and low price of this unit, enabled me to make my recordings sound much better than before. It is very rare for me to record more than one track at a time, but having the second channel is a plus. Not only do I use this for vocals, I also find that it helps the sound of guitars, bass, synth, and probably anything your wanting additional help with in sound. When recording a guitar, I like having the sound from the amp/guitar being used, much more than using on board effects. Since the placement of the mic in front of the amp is very important, I was impressed by how much this pre-amp came into play. It is my view that any new product that needs a tube or any other part change. Then one should give a second thought prior to the purchase of said item. Many people think that it is no big deal to change a tube in amps, or other products. However, I have 7 tube amps that are at the high end of the dollar scale. Many times replacing a tube is more than just pulling the old one out and putting the new one in. Because in certain situations the tube has to have additional adjustments upon replacement. There is no way I would try and replace a tube in any of my amps, and risk making a mistake on amps that range from $1,500.00 to $3,000.00 dollars in price. I'm sure that many of you have the skills to perform this procedure, I would rather have an authorized tech to the job. This unit may really sound better with a tube change, but I had rather purchase a higher priced pre-amp that needs nothing. For me, this pre-amp right out of the box performs well for the price you paid. Try one out for yourself, and if you don't care for it exchange it for a different product.

  • Great for warming digital mixes

As reviewed by illuzhunizt on 5/3/2011

This preamp is great for running mixes thru to get a warmer smoother sound for your digital mix. It's not a bad mike pre either for the money. I would suggest replacing the tube inside with a good tube like an e81cc or ecc81 or 12at7wc or cryogenic treated they are all the same just better made than the plain old 12at7's and the sound difference is amazing. Just make sure you dont turn on the +20dB (it's too much saturation)and look at the tube meter and adjust the gain knob to taste making sure the tube meter doesn't go over 0dB.That will give you some nice natural warm. Use the V3 knob to adjust the limiting and viola! Warmth, full bottom and smoothness.V3 settings can add warmness too but some of the setting are a little too harsh for my taste but I love the limiting side.
