Overview

The AMT SS-11 3-Channel Dual Tube Guitar Preamp boasts minimum size with maximum functionality for full tube overdrive using the highest quality components. The SS-11 is brother to the SS-20, but designed to be different. While the SS-20 is the more aggressive "METAL" pedal, the SS-11 was intended and manufactured for that famous CLASSIC tube driven over saturated guitar tone that eveyone loves and craves.

Description of SS-11 Channels:
LEAD channel provides thick, viscous sound for playing both chunky rhythm parts and singing solos with excellent presence. TREBLE SHIFT toggle takes your lead sound into bright mode, similar to the good old "Treble Booster" pedals of the 80's that guitarists used to enhance their solos.

OVERDRIVE channel features a more open structure of the sound. This is the SS-11's sweet spot, offering tubey and saturated sound, much like that of the classic tube amps of the 70's and 80's. A wide range of sensitivity adjustment results in the sound starting from light crunch to thick and bright lead channel-like sound with real tube tone. If you're looking for something other than that dull sounding solid-state OD or TS clone sound, then this is it.

CLEAN channel focuses on crystal clarity clean sound. Low, Mid, and High controls for tweaking your sound; as well as and TREBLE SHIFT toggle for adjusting high end response.

Features
  • Fully tube-based 4 - stage overdrive channel with DUAL TUBE design (2 x 12AX7 or 2 x 6Ð2Ð-ÐÐ tubes) with high-voltage anode voltage (+300 V)
  • Three separate channels: CLEAN / OVERDRIVE / LEAD
  • Individual gain sensitivity and output level controls for clean and crunch/lead channels
  • TREBLE SHIFT toggle switch to enter bright mode for that added punch of high end
  • FX LOOP for external effects
  • OUTPUT jack for connecting to both specialized guitar amplifiers with a standard level of 0 dB (GUITAR AMP mode) and a CAB SIM MIXER out with a standard level of 10dB and a guitar cabinet simulation
  • The preamp outputs are equipped with sophisticated solid-state buffers
  • SS-11 incorporates new field-effect transistor-based guitar cabinet impulse response emulator prossessing
  • Improved naturalness of sound when connected to line input
  • Special attention was paid to transistors anode power quality: preamp uses a specially designed high-voltage transformer minimizing the penetration of impulse noises into amplified signal

Comments about AMT Electronics SS-11 3-Channel Dual Tube Guitar Preamp:

This pre-amp sounds really good if combined with a guitar cabinet simulator. I use the A/DA GCS-3. I run it directly into my board and get very nice tones. The clean channel is very clean and the crunch gets crunchy quickly. As such, I use Box of Rock up front to get to a slight break up. A heavy distortion is not my style so I can't comment on that use of this pedal. Let me say that this sans amp solution is expensive but it sounds so much better than amp modeling software, it is worth it IMHO. It is by far the best solution I have found. As a solo musician, minimizing the weight and amount of what I transport is important.

Comments about AMT Electronics SS-11 3-Channel Dual Tube Guitar Preamp:

I use this to record all my guitar tracks direct. This is my first line of input.
Here is the effects chain: AMT SS-11 / Compressor/ Volume Pedal / Reverb / Delay to mixer to DAW.
The clean is big, bright and warm.
The overdrive is fierce and powerful

The quest for tone is over!

      By JULIAN ZAMPIERI

      from NJ

Comments about AMT Electronics SS-11 3-Channel Dual Tube Guitar Preamp:

I have used guitar multi-fx processors for the longest time and finally when I gave into buying a single distortion stomp box I realized that I could absolutely not get the same tone it produced from my multiple-fx unit (I supposed because otherwise, the multi-fx unit would have been made of the same components as the single dist stomp box), so for a while I have been looking for a 2 channel distortion preamp pedal, specifically with independent volumes for each channel, so I could cut down on some of my gear and make it a more portable rig, to go with my backup rig which is composed of pedals only (tuner, wah, amt SS-11b, noise gate, delay, Tera echo and magnum 44) on my Tera echo I have 1 output going into the magnum44 power amp for my cab on stage and the other into the main mixer, so I don't have to mic the cab, and this is only possible because of the ss-11, due to the fact that first of all it is a pre amp so the sound is already processed to have its own characteristics making unnecessary the usage of other tone shaping pedals (EQs), second, it has not only 2 but 3 channels, which makes it even better than any other pedal currently in the market. In the past i used 1 distortion pedal and I had to roll back the volume knob on the guitar to get a low crunch for rhythm work and roll it back up along with stepping on a boost pedal so I could have my liquid gain for lead work, but now not only I cut down on a boost pedal, I don't have to worry about rolling back the volume knob anymore because I can simply set the amount of gain and volume (although the crunch and lead channels share the same eq they are voiced differently and yes they have each their own independent gain and volume) that I want for the distortion on the rhythm channel, and have it all up for a vibrant lead tone, and even equalized solemnly for a very pristine clean channel. It's is definitely not one of the cheapest pedals out there, but if you want quality you gotta pay the price, and this thing is worth every penny.

      Amazing Preamp

      By Thomas Lindsey

      from B'more, Maryland

Comments about AMT Electronics SS-11 3-Channel Dual Tube Guitar Preamp:

I got rid of so many things (Fender Twin, Fender Blues DeVille, multi-effects, guitars) and decided to start over. Ordered this, 2 Egnater 1X12 cabinets, and some TC Electronics time based effects (chorus, delay, reverb). Ordered a tube preamp (Carvin) and that's now my setup. Everything lives in front of me now. This thing is the brains to the whole setup, and it is just great!! 3 channels, very quiet even on the highest gain, very tweakable EQ-wise, and enough gain for days. I've used this on a few gigs, tons of rehearsals, and it all lives on a Pedaltrain Jr. Through the tube preamp, the cleans are warm and sustain well, and can get me to a nice Fender-ish type clean (blackface). The crunch channel is, well, crunchy (think a good Joe Walsh sound with a Tele), and the lead sound can get you Eric Johnson type mid range-ish drive (no, you won't sound like Eric, only approximate from my point of view). Works well with the other pedals, no problems. I play professionally, and I've had it for about 3 months. In one of the bands that I play in, after about 1 month of rehearsals, the other guitarist sold all of his stuff and went a similar route. He is also very stoked with this preamp!

      Pretty Amazing Little Preamp

      By Thomas Lindsey

      from Hanover, Maryland

Comments about AMT Electronics SS-11 3-Channel Dual Tube Guitar Preamp:

I've been searching for a bit on how to use my Carvin tube power amp into 2 Egnater Rebel 80 cabs. I used my Line 6 Pod for a few gigs, but the volume differences, mixed with the fact that the sounds with headphones were radically different from what came out of the cabs (no kidding, that can't be avoided) were a huge pain. I just wanted tonal control. Enter the AMT SS11(A). I planned on just using the clean section, maybe one of the other sections, but it replaced overdrive pedals (Keeley Mod TS-9, Barber Electronics Direct Drive, Visual Sound Jekyll & Hyde, modded SD-9). The clean sound is great, chimey, but vibey and sustains nicely. I run the gain on that at about 3 o' clock, and it sounds pretty amazing. The crunch channel is great, very bluesy and SRV-ish if you set the drive good on it. I do run a FX Doctor Dynacomp through the loop that is on all the time (at unity gain). It turns the drive channel into a BEAST! I play a Fender Thinline Tele with humbuckers (Seymour Duncan P-Rails) with this. Like any idiot, I obsess over gear all the time, and usually get tired of my one trick ponies (never sell anything, though). With this setup, I can cover so much ground, from clean jazz, funk, fusion, R&B, classic rock, and full on shred. This is an amazingly flexible preamp with so many tonal options, it can EASILY replace entire rigs. Well made, although you might want to buy an extra adapter (mine is fastened firmly underneath my pedalboard, unable to move). I love this thing!

      Great Tone

      By Dane Nistler

      from Nashville TN.

Comments about AMT Electronics SS-11 3-Channel Dual Tube Guitar Preamp:

I was looking for a pre-amp in a stomp box and came across this on the web. I read a review here and they mentioned Andy Timmons tone in the review. That caught my attention cause I love his tone. I bought one and was just blown away how versatile this little box is. It has 2 tubes in it and is very responsive to your picking dynamics. It covers everything from clean to overdrive to lead channel. I'm using this pre amp on my pedalboard as my amplifier. This is the first time I'm not using my Mesa on stage. The sound guy wants to keep the stage volume down. It makes for a fast set up. I've tried using other pedals before this one but was never was happy with the sound. It took a while to find the sweet spot in the settings but its in there. This thing ROCKS!!!! Next best thing to using a amp on stage.

The BEST SMALLEST Tube Preamp Pedal

      By GARY WIRYAWAN

      from Seattle, WA

Comments about AMT Electronics SS-11 3-Channel Dual Tube Guitar Preamp:

This thing does everything. I play everything from jazz comping, blues soloing, rock, metal, pop, funk, instrumental. I bought this pedal with Andy Timmons in mind and believe it or not, this pedal nail his tone easily. The clean sound gets very close to a Fender Twin sound with enough sparkle on the top; there's even a treble switch to get it sound like it's a Vox AC30 top boost, good for funk. Cut the treble a bit and you'll get a good Jazz comping tone even with single coil. The rhythm overdrive I don't use it too much, sounds pretty much like a thinner version of a cranked up Marshall JTM45. However, I love the lead overdrive so much, sounds very fat, very warm and very open. Cut down the treble, boost the mid and it's my main tone. I can't say enough good things about this pedal. SS-11A replaces the need of having a real amp in my rig.
