Overview

The WMS 40 Mini instrumental systems features AKG's unique HDAP (High Definition Audio Performance) technology ensures the best possible, most realistic sound at any time. The system includes an SR 40 MINI receiver, a PT 40 MINI pocket transmitter, a MKG L instrument cable, a universal power supply with US/UK/EU adapter, and one AA size dry battery.

The SR 40 Mini receiver provides three status LEDs indicating ON/OFF status, received signal strength (RF OK), and audio clipping (AF CLIP). The VOLUME control sets the level at the ΒΌ" output jack. The supplied switched mode power supply operates on any AC voltage from 110 to 240 VAC and includes EU, UK, and US adapters.

The PT 40 Mini bodypack is probably the smallest and lightest transmitter in its class. A reliable mini XLR output allows you to connect every compatible AKG miniature microphone. A single AA size battery will do to power both the transmitter and a condenser microphone connected to it. Battery life of the transmitter is the same legendary "30 hours off a single AA battery" as for the WMS 40 models, reducing the need to replace batteries and thus saving real money in the long run.

Consumer Alert:

Most users do not need a license to operate this wireless microphone system. Nevertheless, operating this microphone system without a license is subject to certain restrictions: the system may not cause harmful interference; it must operate at a low power level (not in excess of 50 milliwatts); and it has no protection from interference received from any other device. Purchasers should also be aware that the FCC is currently evaluating use of wireless microphone systems, and these rules are subject to change. For more information, call the FCC at 1-888-CALL-FCC (TTY: 1-888-TELL-FCC) or visit the FCCs wireless microphone website at: www.fcc.gov/cgb/wirelessmicrophones.

Ok so I read a lot of reviews and I purchased this product anyways since I can fix many issues with things myself and for 99 buck or less if you have a coupon, you can get an good, stable, performance quality, wireless setup. That being said. Make sure you do the following.
when you unwrap the cable, pull on the metal strain relief spring away from the connector as to full engage the spring into the back of the housing. When it arrived I did not do that and I experienced ALL of the issues in the negative reviews. I dismantled the connectors and noted that the cable was of reasonable quality and the soldering was not too bad, after reassembling the connectors I found that the spring if not properly seated in the back will actually crate a connection or variable resistance from the signal to the ground. It was as easy as pulling on the springs and I was very satisfied with product since then nice range no complaints.

works for bass

By christopher wessner

from pine grove,pa

Comments about AKG WMS 40 Mini Instrument Wireless System:

bought this for my bass guitar and was worried about signal loss and after i set it up all the worries were gone. the main reason i got it was to be able to walk around and check the sound coming out of our pa cause i play alot of shows using our own pa. now i'm moving around on stage more and my band doesn't look like a bunch of zombies standing in one place for the entire gig. never thought i would ever use a wireless system because of how expensive the good ones are but for $100 you will never beat this product ever.

Works great live

By MARK PERREAULT

from South Elgin, IL

Comments about AKG WMS 40 Mini Instrument Wireless System:

Used it at a gig on a big stage with full sound and lights. I was able to roam / jump around on stage with no cutouts or tonal changes. Very happy with it. It's a great budget wireless for the money. The small transmitter fits great on my guitar strap and doesn't get in the way.

Much Better Than Expected

By Chris Chandler

from Charlotte, North Carolina

Comments about AKG WMS 40 Mini Instrument Wireless System:

I gave the AKG WM40 a chance because I liked the way it was built and it seemed like a good replacement for the Samson Stage 55 Wireless that died after 4 years of use. I have done at least five shows with it, 2 outdoor shows where I would walk out in a range of at least 75 feet without any drop out whatsoever. Good, Juicy sound without any loss of tone. The AKG WM40 is well worth the money spent.

Comments about AKG WMS 40 Mini Instrument Wireless System:

I am very sorry to say that this is not a good product to purchase. I brought this product on March 18, 2015 and now I am having frequency and static problems (i.e. in 3 months). I would suggest that everyone buy a better product rather buying the cheap one.Now I am hating AKG product itself.

Works AWESOME on my 5 string Bass

By Jim Colbert

from Goffstown,NH

Comments about AKG WMS 40 Mini Instrument Wireless System:

This little wireless works superb on my Bass....I simply plugged in and played. uses a single AA battery. No noice no cutting out,no visable over useage..just a great wireless. one thing tho:...(are you listening AKG )? 1. the belt-clip for the reciever is a bit cheezy..its not well designed, the clip-wire is tight and does not fit properly to the reciever or to your belt or guitar/bass strap all that well. But the quality of the "wireless reproduction sound" is second to none. If you want a good sounding wireless for your bass at a decent low price?. then this baby is for you.

Great for the Money

By James

from Phoenix, AZ

Comments about AKG WMS 40 Mini Instrument Wireless System:

For the price this is an excellent wireless solution. I have discovered that to avoid the nasty noise on startup I followed the following: 1) connect the transmitter and turn it on. 2) turn on my amp. 2) turn on the receiver. When I am done I turn off the receiver first and the amp last. Nice and light weight, I have had no issues with crackle and pop but I am never very far from the receiver which sits on top of my amp. I use the same cable that I used before from my guitar to connect the receiver to my pedal board. I think it brightens my sound. I would recommend this to anyone thinking of getting into wireless. I picked the 'C' channel. Had to wait for it to come into stock but the wait was worth it.

Tone Robber!

By Thomas

from Pasadena, TX.

Comments about AKG WMS 40 Mini Instrument Wireless System:

Definitely changed my tone. For you tone guys, don't buy it. I had to return it. Also had a problem with it popping and static noise from the cable connection. Not very rugged. Now I see why people spend the extra money for the Line 6.

Comments about AKG WMS 40 Mini Instrument Wireless System:

just got this a little while ago and so far its working great! fits on my strap nice with tape and no problem with guitar spins or feedback! and the use of 1 AA battery saves some $ since my old audio tech wireless was junk and ate 9volts every gig. overall its working great lets hope it stays that way

Good Product Good Price

By DOUGLAS GRANT

from Muskego, WI

Comments about AKG WMS 40 Mini Instrument Wireless System:

I play electric bass in my church's contemporary ensemble. The area for the musicians is rather small and crowded, and I was tired of being tethered to the mixer amongst a snake pit of cables from microphones and other instruments. The WMS 40 system has solved that problem, and I have been pleasantly surprised to find that setting up is no more complicated than plugging in my cable was - I have the transmitter permanently clipped onto my guitar strap, I just need to plug the receiver into an AC power source and a TRS cable into the mixer, and I'm good to go. I have not noticed any unwanted noise or interference with this system, and it actually lets me boost the signal a little bit, which is helpful. The quoted range is 75 feet, I would say I get at least that much - during sound checks I can walk out into the worship space and see how I sound with the rest of the sources, which is nice. The transmitter does appear to be a tad fragile, but as a church musician I am not worried about my equipment being handled roughly or abusively. Like any piece of gear, a product's characteristics must be matched to the demands of the application, but for me, this unit is giving me exactly what I want and not introducing any problems.

Does a good job for Bass

By Andrew Webster

from Virginia

Comments about AKG WMS 40 Mini Instrument Wireless System:

I recently bought this (ch. A) and have been using it at home for awhile to test before bringing to rehearsal or a gig. It works well but there have been the occasional RF interferences in the form of static-type sounds that seem to be positional. After experimenting with adjusting the transmitter boost as high as I can with just barely getting a red clip light once in awhile on the receiving unit and installing a fresh battery, I've had only a small amount of RF issues. I will be trying this in different locations soon and hope to at least be able to use the unit long enough to complete sound checks as I run sound from the stage. Not yet sure if I would gig with it due to the RF issues. I play 5 string bass and while the low B isn't quite as loud as it is with a good cable, it's still more than adequate for performance as the specs say this unit transmits down to 40Hz. Overall, I think it's pretty good bang for the buck. Unless you are willing to pony up for the all digital versions which cost 3-5x more, this is probably the best bet for bass as it transmits lower frequencies better then the competition in its price range.

No more cables!

Comments about AKG WMS 40 Mini Instrument Wireless System:

I bought one at Westlake Ave. branch in Seattle. It's really worth buying for. There is almost no loss in quality of tone (or no loss at all, if there is, it's unnoticeable). I hate dealing with cables most of the time so this one really is a solution for me. I can play in a distance. It is a great deal.

really loud random pops and scratching noises made the unit unusable for me

By Mark McSwain

from Houston, Texas

Comments about AKG WMS 40 Mini Instrument Wireless System:

I tried this unit out for one night in my house. I experienced really loud random pops and scratching noises which made the unit unusable for me. Interestingly, the noises were present regardless of whether I was close or far from the base, whether I was in the same room or another, and with the remote unit on and off....so it didn't seem like an issue with proximity or interference. Others have experienced similar noises so my advice would be to consider another unit. I returned it and I'm currently looking for something similar sans the noises.

Get the right channel.

By RICHARD MILLIGAN

from Clinton Township

Comments about AKG WMS 40 Mini Instrument Wireless System:

I tried this unit a few months ago in channel A. All the Guitar Centers by me only had channel A. That unit didn't even work noise free in my basement. I bought a higher level used AKG wireless but recently lost the transmitter which was about $150 to replace(dummy)so I thought I'd try the WMS Mini again in channel C this time. That did the trick! Sounds great! Sounds like using a cord. Buying this was cheaper than replacing my lost transmitter and the battery life is almost 4 times that of my last wireless so I'll save money. Perfect!

Comments about AKG WMS 40 Mini Instrument Wireless System:

I bought this system based on reviews and price. It is HIGHLY susceptible to RF interference, so much so that I am unable to find any use for it in my situation. I live in Indianapolis, and tried this in two locations in town and one on the outskirts. No success at all. I'll be returning/exchanging for either another frequency unit or a different brand in my price range, that being about $100US. I would no buy again, not would I recommend it. I believe digital may be the only solution, so I'm looking at used X2 and Line 6 systems. Also considering Intelligence and a new Bluetooth based rig that would never have interference issues. It's only downfall is rechargable batteries that lack the life for a gig, but it's cheap, and the tech may really save me.
