Overview

The D5 dynamic vocal microphone for lead and backing vocals delivers a powerful sound even on the noisiest stage. Its supercardioid polar pattern ensures maximum gain before feedback. The D 5 stands for a crisp sound that cuts through every mix.

AKG made the first microphone diaphragm ever whose thickness varies across its diameter. The Laminated Varimotion diaphragm deep-drawing process allows the diaphragm itself to be fine-tuned with no extra tuning resonators, leading to a quantum leap in audio performance.

akg d 5

By mike

from north kingston ri

Comments about AKG D5 Supercardioid Handheld Dynamic Microphone:

i tried the shure sm 58 and it was no match for the akg d 5. i'm a singing drummer and this was my best mic ever. the clarity and crisp sound was awsome. in our band room the lead guitarist has a sure sm 58 and he told me there was no better because of it's popularity and wide use,but when he heard the akg d 5 even he was impressed with the new technology and sound of this mic. it's better than the sure sm 58 . you will not regret this buy.

Great microphone!

By Anonymous

Comments about AKG D5 Supercardioid Handheld Dynamic Microphone:

This mic is great all around! The sound quality of the D5 is nice and feedback is never an issue. Not a lot of mics have the same type of sturdy construction as a SM58, but this one is a fierce competitor. I have had this microphone for a while now, and it has never let me down.

Great Mic

By Charles Vaughan

from Rocky Mount, VA

Comments about AKG D5 Supercardioid Handheld Dynamic Microphone:

I have been singing on a SHURE SM58 for a while now, but never got the clarity I wanted when everybody in the band was playing. I tried this mic this weekend and was blown away. I finally realized what I had been missing on my vocals. Well worth the switch!!!!

Best I've ever heard

By Don Smith

from Phoenix, AZ

Comments about AKG D5 Supercardioid Handheld Dynamic Microphone:

As a sound man for 20 years, I have heard and used a variety of microphones. The AKG D5 is the clearest vocal mic I've used. The very first time I put up against a Shure SM58, even non-musical people noticed and mentioned the difference. The vocals were crystal clear and I've never had feedback from even novice users. I recommend this mic to everyone I can.

lacks clarity

By hunter

from boston, ma

Comments about AKG D5 Supercardioid Handheld Dynamic Microphone:

this is an ok mic. The freq response is pretty expansive but it lacks clarity in the mids-highs...somewhat "muddled". Don't misunderstand me, it's not a bad mic, i was just hoping for more. I'll stick with my atm410...ive been using it for almost two years and it blows the akg away. Overall, I would give the d5 2.5 stars if that was an option.

Comments about AKG D5 Supercardioid Handheld Dynamic Microphone:

I have some very good mics...e945, OM7, PR22, ATM 10 condenser, and an older SM58 that fits my voice, but have read so many positive D5 reviews, I had to try it. First, let me say that I do acoustic music and am currently in an Irish/Celtic trio. My voice is in the range of Jackson Browne...high alto and not at all bassy. When I first set up the D5 with the sound system using two JBL MR825 mains (15" with adjustable horn attenuation), I was taken aback by the clarity and overall balance for my voice without much tweaking. A bit of rollback on the mids and bass got it dialed in. After hours of comparing, this mic is right there with the e945 with a slightly different sound 'personality' that I like, and is better than the PR22 and the older SM58. The OM7 is still in a sound league of its own (very smooth), but being low impedance, requires a lot more gain than my other mics, sometimes maxing out the gain on my system depending on the venue, in which case I switch to the e945. The OM7 is also hypercardioid which requires me to literally eat the mic, but it's a wonderful mic for many venues. Now i have another excellent mic with the great clarity and sound quality I look for, good SPL, gain, and gain before feedback. This is truly an excellent buy and as I said in the title, an excellent mic that's been flying under the radar and beginning to be noticed for its sound quality and value.

I've enjoyed this mic so much for live performances. I have a tendency to move around a bit when singing. It allows me to move a little and still have every note represented.
