Great Dynamics

I purchased this mic about a year ago and it is the all-around condenser here in the studio. Vocals and acoustic insturments sound great. At this price, I should buy another. Well balanced dynamics. Built to last.

VERY GOOD VALUE!

I was using a MXL V67 for vocals on hip hop and rap songs, the sound was a little sketchy and it was time to buy a new mic. The AKG name precedes itself and to be honest for the price, I was a little skeptical. After the first take I was convinced that I robbed AKG! It is definately worth way more than the price I paid and I highly recommend this mic!

My Fav Mic so far

I bought this for doing vocal recording on a budget. I read the reviews and went with it because it seemed like the biggest bang for my buck and so far I have to say everyone has been right. Having only ever used an SM57 before I found the Perception 200 to be a BIG step up in quality. The SM57 was fine for general use but I needed something specifficly for vocals and the Perception 200 indeed fills that need. The mic itself gives a very nice warm sound, something I admit I did not like at first (simply because I was not use to it) but switching the bass roll-over back and forth I find I prefer having the extra warmth there. The mic itself is VERY sensitive to background noise. This can be either a good or bad thing depending on your use. But it can pickup a pin dropping across the room, and that's no exageration. One issue I had was that you need to turn your pre-amp gain up quite a bit to get a usable level (typically around 40-45db for me). I thought that maybe it was my mic-pre, or perhaps I had a bad mic (my SM57 runs much lower) but this seems to be typical of the mic. thsi does not effect preformance in any way I can tell, it's just a tad concerning if you are use to mics requiring less gain. I love the case and the shock-mount. I've had the same issue with the mount that others have... you have to make it almost insanely tight to get it to hold the weight of the mic. But again this is a minor issue and considering the mount come free with the mic I can live with it. To spite the little things I have issue with (the need to have higher gain setting, the mount needing to be super tight, etc) I absolutely love this mic and would easily by another one.

Shock mount very fragil

The shock mount on for the perception 200 is very fragil.I triped with the mic cable and the stand falled to the floor. The spider suspension or shock mount shattered like glas when it touched the floor.Which is not good .The microphone is one of the best it does its job.For the shock mount I give it a very low rating.

Good entry-level condenser for vocals

I recently bought this microphone because I was looking for a lower priced vocal condenser mic that would allow me to enter into the world of "real" microphones. When I got the mic and tried it out, I was impressed. It has a very clear sound and it adds a nice warmth to vocals. It picks up sound quite nicely and captures all of the emotion that you put into a song. The -10db switch is nice if you are in a loud room or have a loud vocalist. The shockmount included is excellent and the case it comes with is excellent looking and quite sturdy. The one downfall with this mic is that it does not allow you to change the directional pattern. Had this been a feature, it would have gotten all 5's.
