A studio classic, voiced for vocal reproduction and distance miking of instruments.

Based on the C 414 studio workhorse, the AKG C 414 B-XL II Condenser Microphone has many refinements including a vastly improved capsule shockmount; 1" diaphragm; and 5 switchable polar patterns: omnidirectional, wide cardioid, cardioid, hypercardioid, and figure 8. 2-color LEDs indicate polar pattern and output overload. 3 switchable bass cut filters and 3 preattenuation pads with LEDs offer quick reference. 20Hz-20kHz frequency range. 88dB, A-weighted SNR. It produces the distinctive timbre of the classic C414 and adds presence to vocals and distantly mic'd instruments. Requires phantom power.

The only microphone you need!

If you're a project studio owner looking for that high end mic sound without spending upwards of $3000, the C414BXLII is your ticket to ride. Multiple polar patterns, pad, and rolloff settings ensure that this microphone will be versatile enough to suit any voice or instrument. For vocals I use this mic exclusively because of the fact that I rarely have to use equalization once inside of Pro-Tools. The vocals sit perfectly in the mix with just a small amount of compression! In the last few years I have fell in love with re-amping samples and the C414BXLII is once again the mic I always turn to. It has that warm "crispy" sound we all love without ever sounding harsh or brittle. Don't sell your projects (or your clients') short by using an inferior product. Undoubtedly you've heard the 414 on countless recordings over the last 30+ years. It's tried and true and will provide you with the "major label" results you desire! Stereo sampling? They're available in matched pairs!

One of the Best Mics Ever

I have heard a lot about the 414 XL II and thought that some of the comments might be a little hyped. Then I tried it. This microphone has a lot of warmth, yet is clear, detailed and crisp all at the same time. I prefer the TL II because it uses the old C12 capsule, but the capsule in the XL II is still magnificent. With selectable polar patterns, it is great for any application from straight up vocals to drum overheads or toms. A pair of these can give a piano an outrageously good sound. I was so impressed with this microphone that I can't say enough good things about it. The point is that this microphone is worth the price. If you are looking for a go-to mic that will do the job right every time, then save up if you have to in order to get this mic.

Amazing Clarity

We used this mic yesterday in the high school's studio to record a rapper and a singer into Pro Tools for a song about graduating from 8th grade. I was STUNNED by the clarity of this mic... being 14, I can't afford it, but if our group ever gets really famous, we're definately going to buy this thing. It was just amazing how great this sounded. We all talked about it for a long while after we finished recording. If you have the money to get this thing, you should. It's amazing

Flight Case

Obviously a great mic with long reputation. Just remember the "flight case" is really plastic. The handle snapped off as I unpacked it. Not worth the hassle of replacing I'm afraid.
