The A7, ADAM's best-selling and award-winning powered monitor, combines a high-frequency, transient-friendly A.R.T. ribbon tweeter with an innovative, state-of-the-art 6.5" woofer. The A7 is powered by two 50W RMS amps (one per driver). The front panel sports both a power switch and volume control. The rear panel houses controls for tweeter level and two shelving filters for high and low frequencies. The unit also features both balanced (XLR) and unbalanced (RCA) input connectors, allowing it to be used in almost any audio application.
Accelerated Ribbon Technology
The A.R.T. (Accelerating Ribbon Technology) tweeters and midrange units take a completely new approach in kinematics to move air and improve the quality of music reproduction. Based on the original works of Dr. Oskar Heil, who invented his "Air Motion Transformer" back in 1972, new electroacoustic transducers have been developed that are based on improved layouts and new materials. The membrane consists of a lamella-like folded diaphragm whose single folds move according to the alternate current, thus squeezing air in and out. All other loudspeaker drive units, whether they are voice coil driven, electrostatics, piezos or magnetostatics, act like a piston, moving air in a 1:1 ratio. This is undesirable, as the specific weight of air is much lower than that of the driving mechanics. Speaking in terms of electrical engineering one could say there is a bad match between source and load. The A.R.T. principle achieves a 4:1 velocity transformation between driving diaphragm and driven air, i. e. the air moves in and out four times faster than the folds itself are moving. This superior "motor" is responsible for the enormous clarity and transient reproduction that is to be heard from the A.R.T. drive units.
A.R.T. tweeters are superior in musical clarity and transient reproduction. They have an above average efficiency of 93 dB/W/m, a perfectly linear impedance of 3.2 ± 0.05 Ohms, an equally perfect phase response of ± 1 within the used bandwidth, a reasonable directivity characteristic and thermal power handling that exceeds that of 1" domes by a factor of 2 to 3. Summed up, here is a completely new transducer that has no weaknesses in terms of operation, compatibility, reliability or other electroacoustic specifications. Looking back into loudspeaker history you will not find anything comparable.

When I needed speakers for my project studio I researched on line for a couple of weeks. I only have a 12'X22' room so I decided to go with an active near field system. After visiting several stores I ended up at a store where I was able to A/B most of the speakers on my list. I had budgeted about a grand and nothing even came close to the A7s. These are hands down the best mixing speakers you can buy for the price. Most of my work is audio and video and you never know what a client may be using to see and listen to my programs. The A7s have never failed to generate the response I need to keep my clients coming back.
I have been recording my band and other bands for over 7 years now. I have always A/B'd my mixes on different systems and in any and all available car systems to check for accuracy and how the mix translates. This process usually took about 10 different mixes until I was happy. Then I bought these speakers. I was absolutely stunned the first time I mixed with them.... It sounded great on any system I played it on!! This purchase has made the single biggest difference in the quality of my recordings!.. I have never heard clarity in the high end or a more balanced sound anywhere than I hear with these speakers...... Highly recommended!
I originally went to my local Guitar Center store with no thought of new monitors. I was reasonably happy with what I had, although was unsure if I was really hearing everything I needed to when mixing and mastering. The manager over at Taylorsville, UT. store(Alex) exposed me to the Adam 7 after hearing the JBL's I was curious about. I was floored. Not only did they possess low end punch beyond their size but had an airy openness I'd never heard before. I'm now hearing things in my mixes I would describe as "dimension". I have NOT heard this in ANY other monitor. Their level of image focus is astounding. This is truly a dead honest accurate audio product. I also admire the no compromise quality with which it is manufactured. Typical German quality. I have NO idea how that other poster came up with the idea they used cheap parts. This certainly would not be in accordance with the international reviewers I've read, all of which praised it. I would have to say if you have around a Grand to spare and have a studio you simply MUST have these in your mixdown arsenal.
These really stand out among the crowd of mid-priced near field monitors. I can hear a depth in the mix that I couldn't hear in my Tapco 8" monitors- such an upgrade. The highs produced in the A7's are silky, and there is much clarity in the midrange. It doesn't have too much bottom end, but that's what subs are for. Paired with a very nice sub, you have an accurate presentation of what your music or whatever you run through it sounds like. Plus, you have total tonal control over what your monitor sounds like in your room because of the controls on the back. Plus, all my clients feel like they need to play really good because these have a Darth Vader-ish appearance. Overall, get these if your budget allows. You hear everything. Even the bad stuff.
I bought a pair of A7s new. One unit was dead right out of the box. The other one lost it's woofer within a week - the guy at the service center told me they see that all the time because ADAM uses such cheap woofers. I thought they were very light on the bass as well.
I can't praise them more, they are excellent. I'm so glad I made a good choice buying these. These speakers are awesome for mixing in a studio. If you're looking for speakers that reveal mix dynamics then these are it. Music never sounded so good, I actually enjoy listening to music even more because I find things I've never heard before. Some people don't like them because they feel the bass is too low but I cranked the speakers eq on the back to 6+ and they bang pretty hard. If people need more bass after that then I suggest buy a sub. Bottom line is these speakers are amazing!
I've been addicted not only to music but fidelity. The challenge has been to acquire gear that's transparent, rich in sonic detail. Adam A7's has that rare quality you seldom find in a monitor, seamless integration of bass, mid's & treble. It may give you that sense of "being there". If you track & mix you'll be very happy, the A7's are law.
