I bought this bass a few years back and it has been great! Not only does this bass have the signature Jaco Pastorius sound, it also holds multiple other sounds just by twisting a few knobs! Not only is this bass very versitile, but fender got everything else right on this bass to. It stays in tune, it has ajustable action, it has a very fast neck, and this bass is affordable (which is always a plus)! So if you are looking for a bass that is right up there at the pro level, extremely versitile, great quality, and affordable, then buy the fender jazz bass.

The jazz bass is classic, the MIM Fenders are, well, not so classic. It is worth the extra money for the Made in America series. Most of the MIM have a poor set-up with cheap electronics. Electonics are usually noisy. If it is all you can afford, get it to play, but you will want something nicer later. Hey, it beats all the Squier stuff hands down, though.

great bass, may need to be set up a bit

Comments about Fender Standard Jazz Bass:

If there is anything i can say about this bass is that is has wonderful sound. the pickups are great, and the neck is even better. this bass may need to be set up a little before you use it though (tightening of screws, changing strings, etc.)but other than that the bass itself is great. a little pricy, but a good bass

Very good bass.

Comments about Fender Standard Jazz Bass:

I bought my Fender Jazz two years ago and it still sounds great. The pickups hum a little bit, but that's the only problem I have with it. It has a very slim and quick neck and the tone controls are superb. The bass stays in tune very well through gigging and practice. Sounds great with slap and pop as well.

Comments about Fender Standard Jazz Bass:

this bass is great for people who don't have a lot of money to throw around and need a great bass for the price, i love the way it sounds for slapping-its fun to play, great for rock and alternative, its versatile, and it looks good too completely worth the money, sounds a ton better than anything for that price

The best I own!

By MrBass77

from Bowmanstown, PA

Comments about Fender Standard Jazz Bass:

I just bought the Fender Standard jazz bass. I wanted one cause I've heard great things about the Fender name, and so far I had owned a Warwick Corvette, a Traben torrent (discontinued), a Cort Curbow, a Peavey Grind, a Squier P-bass, and a Epiphone Thunderbird. This bass blew them all away! The sound is almost perfect for my slapping, but hey, I can't complain. It's a beast on tapping and finger pluck styles, but slapping is by far the best sound I've been able to create with my equipment. There's only two problems with it. For one thing, 20 frets is a bother. I normally have 24+ and now that I don't have those frets, I realize how much I needed them. Secondly, the neck needs adjusting, but that's my own fault for not checking all the frets. All in all, solid bass! I'll always keep Fender in mind!

This was the first bass i bought. i have had it for about three-and-a-half months now. it sounds good, i dont have a good amp so it mght sound better than i think. but it handles nicely looks nice and has that level of fender quality you would expect. i recommend this bass over a cheaper squire.

Amayazing

Comments about Fender Standard Jazz Bass:

Alright this was the third bass I added to me arsenal of bass guitars, and it'll be my last for a long time. This bass has very good quality, and sound. I got this as a gift this year and have had it for less than a month and I play it all the time. But before I got it already had the bridge swapped out with the Leo Quann bridge that everyone else talks about getting, and two Basslines Vintage Jazz Bass Pickups, and as an added bonus the neck version is reverse wound, reverse polarity for hum-canceling when played as part of a set. so there's that too. Of course this bass probably isn't as a good as an american jazz bass, but it's a lot cheaper to custom and whatnot. I highly recommend this bass for anyone.

Jazz Bass

By Pope

Comments about Fender Standard Jazz Bass:

First I would recommend this bass to any beginner or amateur player. I've been playing this bass for about 5 months now. It gives a nice smooth Jazz sound out of the single coil pick ups. The two narrow single coils give plenty of room for slap bass or finger picking, which I haven't been able to find on other basses. I've knocked it around alittle bit and have had no problems with it. It has nice fret action, raising the strings up alittle gets rid of any buzzing from hitting the two single coils. Overall this bass is well worth the money, this is definatley a bass you can grow on.

Jazzy is snazzy...

By 40Days_Bass

from Lexington Michigan

Comments about Fender Standard Jazz Bass:

This bass is so cool. I honestly prefer the jazz style pickups to the P bass pickups, since I just feel more comfortable with them. My group is pretty driven by the Alter Bridge style, and Brian Marshall also uses Fenders, so I picked one up at a very good price and this thing rocks. If you don't have at least one, there is something wrong with you.

Fender SJB

Comments about Fender Standard Jazz Bass:

Very playable out of the box. I have experimented with different strings and decided to stick with the Fender light guage bass strings. You will have to adjust the neck truss and string height to your playing style. I hooked it up to a Fender Bassman 250, I recently included a Boss Bass Equalizer and it helps you adjust the tones, hi's and lows. It can't be beat for the price, it is a great bass!

Holy Grail of Basses

By justin2112

from Columbus, OH

Comments about Fender Standard Jazz Bass:

My jazz bass is my favorite bass of all time. The action was good right off the shelf, a little neck relief, business card shim, and saddle tweaking and it was the slickest bass I have ever played. The neck is the thinnest bass profile I have ever felt. The body albiet heavy is perfectly balanced. I tried a P-Bass for a while and while it was lighter the tone wasn't versatile enough, it was all booming bass all the time. The Jazz bass is more versatile, with its two pickups. The only bass I would consider replacing my Jazz Bass with would be a P-bass special.

BEST BY FAR

Comments about Fender Standard Jazz Bass:

I got my standard j-bass about 6 months ago and it's still my favorite. I've had no problems with it so far. I use it with a boss overdrive ODB-3 pedal and it only adds to the power. Overall, if your looking for a good, sturdy, powerful bass, this is for you

Fender J basss (Made in Mexico)

By Roger B

from DC region

Comments about Fender Standard Jazz Bass:

For the price the Mexican J bass is a great deal. I have used one in band settings for ~7 years and have foud that its tone and neck are very solid. What you need to do is to look at a lot of them before deciding on yours as these are machine made basses and whose workmanship in my opinion falls just a notch below what you would find in a top end USA factory version (but you are not paying nearly as much money either). I have found mine to have good playablity and warmth of tone so when you find the one it can be very nice.

Nice Bass

By kray

from NM

Comments about Fender Standard Jazz Bass:

I got this thinking I was going to take lessons from this semi-famous guy at my local university, but that didn?t happen. So now I have this Bass I never play. But I did make some alterations to it. I put on a black pick guard. Which is a sandwich of black and white. I took a black Sharpie and blacked out the white part. I also replaced the pickups and put in DiMarzio Ultra Jazz pick ups. I could have left the pickups alone, because I wouldn?t have known the difference. I read on the internet that the original pickups weren?t good and I had to have the best. Crazy! It was about 10 years ago that I bought this bass. I finally thought I should learn how to play it so I bought some bass playing books/cd/dvd, which I?m working through now. I really like playing this bass. I'm 5'2" and I look like a little kid playing this big bass. My friends always laugh at me when I play because it just looks so much bigger than my acoustic guitars they are used to seeing me play.

The Fender Jazz Bass In All It's Glory

By BassSurfer2006

from Queens, New York

Comments about Fender Standard Jazz Bass:

The fender jazz bass, such a icon to the bass guitar world and the music world in general. Without it some music would not even be written or composed. I took a trip to guitar center in Brooklyn, New York, and entered the store looking for the Fender Jazz Bass. I went to the bass aisle and instantly found it. I plugged it into a Fender Rumble Series Amp. I was amazed as soon as the first few frets were fretted. To start off, the neck plays just like butter, nice and smoothe with no problems. The Fender Jazz Bass is very comfortable and excellent upper fret reach. Another great feature about the neck, if you're like me and play high on the neck, you will be pleased! This bass sounds excellent slapped and popped. It holds its own with a pick, producing a nice sharp attack. I played about 15 shows with mine so far and there have been no problems at all. After all, Fender is a name you can trust for 60 years. This bass was such an experience when I first played it. It produced the warmest, cleaniest sounds i ever heard from a bass. I highly reccomend that you go to your nearest Guitar Center and try this beautiful bass out. Because when I took mine home, i was highly impressed, and so will you when you take yours home.

Comments about Fender Standard Jazz Bass:

I recently bought a used MIM Standard Jazz bass from my local Guitar Center, the price was too good to pass up it is the tri color sunburst which I love! the bass was not very well taken care of by its previous owner which made it a perfect project bass I replaced the bridge with a Gotoh bridge and I installed a set of Dimarzio DP123 humbuckers and I installed a tortiseshell pickguard to give it that classic look, this bass is now my main player the action is awesome the sound is perfect for my style of music (classic rock and blues)I own six basses and now the other five just sit there.

not american, but no difference.

By Fat_Freeman

from Huntsville, OH

Comments about Fender Standard Jazz Bass:

This is no doubt one of the nicest sounding basses out their. It has a feel like no other. The neck is so much easier to play on compared to basses I'vr had in the past. For the price you should definitely buy this. It is just as good if not better than the american considering the price difference. And it is a jazz bass.
