  • Really Nice

As reviewed by RYAN WILLIAMS on 1/5/2014

I purchased this guitar and received it about a week ago. Right out of the box I did a simple tuning and strummed a chord...holy cow I thought because the guitar was intonated (out of the box) and it sounded so amazing. Haven't been able to put it down since. Normally on other guitars I never play the neck pickup because they don't sound as good but with Gibson and these new 61' Zebra Humbuckers, I play the neck pickup nearly all the time. Its hard to describe how good this guitar sounds, even at low volume. It has such amazing range of tones. Where I used to rely on my Line 6 Spider IV 150 Watt amp to enhance the sounds, now I see what a Gibson can do to enrich the sound. Also, the quality of the body and finish is stunning. Gibson uses high quality materials and they did not cheap out on the LPJ either. Grab you one of these, you will not be sorry!

  • Gibson quality ...

As reviewed by GREG DENIS on 4/24/2014

Good day all ... i already own an LP Traditional & was looking for a back-up stage guitar without having to break the bank. I did extensive research on guitars in the $600-$800 range & here's what I thought were the best guitars in this price range : the PRS SE , the high-end Mexican Blacktop series Strats & Teles (with the double humbucker bridge pick-up) , the Gibson Melody Maker & , of course , this Gibson LPJ. As the first gentleman to write a review on this guitar said , the guitar is perfectly intonated , either out of the box , or directly of the wall at your GC store. It comes with Clear-Tone strings that are properly "locked" around the tuning post & Kluson tuners. I banged on it for hours & it stayed in tune. The humbuckers sound great & give you that rich , full Gibson sound we have all come to depend on. The neck does not play as smooth as my Traditional , but I did not expect it to. It comes with a gig bag , but you are better off getting a Roadrunner hard-shell case , that this guitar will fit in snuggly , for about $110. In the end , it is a Gibson & they did not scrimp on craftmanship on this guitar ... you will be very happy with this guitar. Lastly , off the subject ,I'm bringing this up to help those who have had problems with any guitar staying in tune , or if you've ever heard that "pinging" sound when tuning your guitar. First , you need to learn how to "lock" your strings to the tuning post. You can find videos of this on YouTube. Then , for the "pinging" sound , simply take a sharpened pencil & put lead/graphite in the grooves of the nut ... "ping" will be gone. I feel compelled to share this , as I was one of the knuckleheads that couldn't get my guitar to stay in tune. Hope this helps ... rock on !!

  • FANTASTIC BUY!!!

As reviewed by AARON VITTORI on 3/13/2014

This guitar is amazing! Don't be fooled by the price. This is still a great Gibson guitar with the quality you would expect in a $2000 LP. Feels great and sounds even better with those '61 zebras. Good classic crunch. For a long time I have shied away from Gibson's J series, making the same mistake as others writing it off as a bunch of low end junior models. NOT THE CASE!!! The only thing you wont get is all the extra bling, i.e. binding, lacquer finish, pickgaurd, pretty hardware. I was in search of a particular SG when I picked this guitar up for some unknown reason at GC and played it, I immediately fell in love with this guitar. The body resonates very well and the sound is so clear even with distortion. I would highly recommend this guitar at least go to GC and play on one then you'll see/hear/feel what I'm talking about.
